The Federal Republic of Darkanistan is a mammoth, cultured nation, ruled by Henry Pearce with an even hand, and notable for its museums and concert halls, smutty television, and keen interest in outer space. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful population of 8.91 billion Darkans are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Administration, Education, and Healthcare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Darkania. The average income tax rate is 95.1%.

The frighteningly efficient Darkan economy, worth a remarkable 1,632 trillion Republican Darkas a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector is led by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Arms Manufacturing, and Book Publishing. Average income is an impressive 183,208 Republican Darkas, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Darkan military drills look more like joint-The North Pacific exercises than anything else, mums always ask their three-year-olds for permission before hugging them, the recycled air in planes is nauseating, and dissing one's former country is a prerequisite to apply for Darkan citizenship. Crime is totally unknown. Darkanistan's national animal is the Opossum, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests.

Darkanistan is ranked 2,794^th in the world and 132^nd in The North Pacific for Nicest Citizens, with 61.43 average smiles per day.
