Yes! This was also the original Spanish name for the Caroline Islands, which are now a part of the Federated States of Micronesia and Palau (the majority of which were called Los Palaos).

From Taiwan to the north to Tawi-Tawi in the south used to be under Spanish sovereignty, although of limited nature of course.

Generally, it looked like this on a map -
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanish_East_Indies#/media/File:Spanish_East_Asia_(orthographic_projection).svg

It was all administered from Manila. The Philippines late independence date plus major powers of that time already fighting for a piece of the Pacific in the 19 century really prevented such an extended Philippines from existing.

This is true: the Philippines and Guam went with other possessions that Spain sold to the United States, while Palau, the Carolines, the rest of the Marianas (today the U.S.-governed Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands), and other parts of the former SEI were sold to Imperial Germany.

We are also doing economically well. The gross regional product just breached 22 quadrillion. Although mine is no longer the region's largest economy, we can be glad that our member nations are collectively committed to our vision of inclusive and sustainable development for all. Mabuhay!

Okay, so I want to explain my vote in the latest Regional poll (please vote and pitch in your thoughts, too!)

Lanaograd asked: Should we commemorate the Quincentennial? "This year, 2021, is the 500th year since the Philippines discovered Ferdinand Magellan and his crew, our first recorded contact with European explorers. What are your thoughts?"

I said "Yes" because it was the beginning of our "colonial experience" with Western powers (and Japan; this is excluding our experiences with nearby empires such as the Srivjaya, Majapahit, and Bruneian), and it is thus a watershed moment in our development as a Nation (but most certainly not its genesis). For me, it is a time for us to reflect and consider the influences and events within the context of colonisation that have shaped our present identity. For some, this moment is a celebration of faith and culture; for others, it is a grim reminder of oppression and the many social ills that still plague us to this day. The problem for me is that any objective historical discourse tends to be drowned out by more popular, yet simplistic dichotomies that paint the whole affair in black and white.

We cannot change the past, but we can most certainly learn from it. Now is the right time to look at the past 500 years, on all the good and bad things that happened to us as a people. It cannot be denied that centuries of colonialism left an indelible impact on our way of life and the very Nation we profess to love. Therefore, the Quincentennial should be a tool for remembrance, a lens with which to view the story of the Filipino from different angles, and a vehicle to pass this knowledge on to succeeding generations. It is thus a means for us to move forward with a better – and fuller – sense of who we are.

Official statement on recent developments in the World Assembly in relation to the Philippines

There is no mincing words on this one: I have just been ejected from the World Assembly, and obviously from my delegacy as well, due to moderator decision. As much as I might be compelled to resort to harsher measures and words, I would like to reiterate that peace and calm would be our main instrument at this juncture. We can be sad, yes, but we cannot be pulled into the pace of others if we ourselves live in integrity and righteousness. Also, let us respect the decision of our moderators, who we assume have done it in an informed manner and out of good faith. It might as well be a blessing in disguise, because we have been given an opportunity to prove how our regional government has been geared to respond to sudden events such as this one. We have an entire core of regional officers, active and intact, to step up on the plate when needed. Our vision of anticipatory governance is being demonstrated and our regional stability had not been compromised because many of our regional officers have sufficient influence to work around with most of the functions we have left behind. And for someone who kept talking about the future, I do not really know what comes next for me after this unfortunate incident. Still, as we welcome a new era under our next delegate, let it be always remembered how for a decade hence, we have all contributed to building a Philippines that can proudly stand on the global stage, and a Philippines that can defend its own sovereignty and the integrity of our allies.

The entire PEFToN is melancholic over this recent decision by moderators to sanction our commander regarding World Assembly rules. While unacceptable on our part, we will have to defer to the moderators in this regard. Rest assured, the Philippine Expeditionary Force to the Nations will continue to courageously defend the Philippines and the world.

We stand with you, Ariusgrad, and thank you for your years of service to our Region! At first I noticed you weren't under my "Vote" bar, but this explains it. I am deeply shocked and saddened by this decision, but your gracious take on it and course of action is admirable. We'll be here to support you in your future endeavours, and be active members of the WA.

This may well be my last public message to the ones who will be left behind, and we do not know how long this message will remain up, so please take these words to heart. To those who have not yet joined the World Assembly, despite the hapless incident that has befallen myself, the oldest resident of the Philippines to date (I joined in 2010), I am sincerely glad to have had served you in the past decade as your World Assembly Delegate. I call upon everyone to support the new administration as well. As one of the largest founderless regions in the world, we are always a plum target for attacks. There is no time we can ever let our guard down. Faith, hope, love. These three will remain. Hold them fast as you march forward to the future. Do not forget the lessons of the past, and care for those who are with us in the present. Tomorrow is a mystery.

Weep not for me, my friends, but for the service we have been deprived of because of this sudden decision by the moderators. I suspected the first time when my RMB posts have been redirected to Ariusgrad or to Secular state of the philippines, among other nations, when quoted. Dismissed initially as a glitch, but now we are here. Do not even think of me, but I simply cannot believe they will come after our longest serving World Assembly Delegate, serving for so long it was already in office when I first joined the Philippines from Global Enterprise in 2013. Imagine that? I suppose all of us here have had seen our beloved former delegate Ariusgrad in action by the time we came to the region. Personally, until I was assigned to research on our regional history, I would have never known we had 36 more delegates before Ariusgrad.

While there will always be a reason to react negatively, our response should always be peaceful, constructive, and conciliatory. We cannot fault the ones who are doing their roles and responsibilities. As we do our tasks to sustain this Philippine community, so do they work their best to maintain the integrity of overall gameplay. They chose to reject our presentation of evidence, from difference in IP addresses to difference in actual locations to difference in devices used to even difference in accounts (e.g., different social media profiles, etc.) and testimonies from our fellow players leading their noble nations. We are exhausting all possible remedies, but so far to no avail. Still, I believe that time will uphold the righteousness of our cause. Even in times of darkness, we can be assured that there will be light. The Philippines will always be the beacon of liberty, and the Pearl of the Orient. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas! Mabuhay ang lahat ng mga bayaning katulad ni Ariusgrad na nagbuwis ng dugo, pagod, at serbisyo para itaguyod ang ating rehiyon!

Philippines and allies. The recent events have put our region on the path of uncertainty.

Ariusgrad, our great Philippine leader, and our fellow great comrade Lanaograd did so much for our region, they rebuilt the Philippines and put our region on the pedestal of other great regions; founderless yet made possible because of the will of our great leaders.

As to Ariusgrad's achievements for the Philippines, I have big shoes to fill.

I know that we are in an uncertain time (and perhaps divided thoughts), but just like you, I am in confusion about what is happening, but I have seen the one thing that will bind us together. Love. Hope, love of dreams, love of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

This time, I hope to put us back on the path to confidence and strength. I ask for your support, cooperation, unity. As President Lincoln prophetically said, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." We are at a similar crossroads. But Lincoln did not expect his house to fall, and neither do I.
