Their poorer citizens, however, are mostly starving to death while being urged to go out and get real jobs. The populace has reasonably extensive civil rights, although these are mostly aimed at allowing them to buy whatever they like.

The tiny, pro-business, outspoken government is primarily concerned with Spirituality, although Administration, Education, and Healthcare are also considered important, while International Aid and Social Policy receive no funds. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 7.4%.

The very strong Catessenian economy, worth 439 billion pounds a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is led by the Basket Weaving industry, with major contributions from Trout Farming, Tourism, and Arms Manufacturing. Average income is 62,834 pounds, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 197,354 per year while the poor average 15,317, a ratio of 12.9 to 1.

Prisons are filled with the cackles and sobs of a deranged inmate population, the government regrets to say that it is forced to make cuts to citizens, red tape is the only thing longer than medication inserts, and a popular saying is "a chicken for every pot and an abortion clinic on every street". Crime is a problem, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Catessen's national animal is the panther.
