As the battlelines are drawn and the Civil War fires off, the unions and militias of the Commonwealths solidify their holdings, arresting or exiling anti-Socialist governors and troops who do not support the Socialist cause. Horace Greeley sets up a capital in Chicago and is inaugurated as the Chairman of the American Worker's Congress. Though the Socialist movement does not have much support from the former US Navy or from army regiments compared to the Federals or the Constitutionalists, they boast the industrial heartland of the country, and are quickly able to organize their unions and militias into the United Commonwealth Army. Their flag consists of the 13 stripes of both the original 13 colonies and the states who now make up the Socialist movement, and a seal in the middle of a red star flanked by the wheat of the farmer and the gear of the worker.

With the Socialists consolidating their territory and organizing their army, their first major battles come from a section of the Commonwealth army supporting an uprising of pro-Socialist workers in the Federal city of Pittsburgh. Cannons seized from armories are brought into the city and Federal troops are threatened with artillery bombardment. The Federal troops, being undeterred, drive the pro-Socialist strikers out of the city who join up with the Socialist army. The two forces later clash directly west of the city in a battle that lasts the entire afternoon, resulting in a bloody stalemate for both sides. Federal forces retreat back to Pittsburg while the Socialists make their way back to Ohio to regroup. With the Battle of Pittsburg, and similar battles occurring all across the country, it is clear that this war will last much longer and be much more destructive than the rebellion of 15 years prior...

>| The American Constitutional States (Thanks Rio) begin to arm alongside the border with the Haida country to the north, however most of the defensive perimeter would be focused on the Socialists, as well on the Confederates. Around 430,000 CAA Troops border alongside the Socialist States, with around 380,000 on the border with the Confederates. 58,000 would be on the Haida border with the rest of the CAA put on the Reserve. Due to the strong belief in the 1st Amendment, with the Right to Express yourself, Socialists and Confederates in the American Constitutional States are not arrested by the Government but are instead taken into custody by militias who closely affiliate themselves with the Constitutionalists. Alongside the troops being put on the 3 borders, Artillery is armed and put on the borders with CAA forces ready at the command of their superiors.
