Condemnation

As some of you may know, before my residence and election in this great region, I once resided in a region known as Aurora, a self-proclaimed leftist region and now, a former ally of this region. Before the unfortunate events over the last few days, our relationship with them was complicated, to say the least. Before my arrival into Wintercrest, I was serving as the Auroran Premier, and it was a very tumultuous term to put it mildly. It eventually culminated in my departure from their ranks, but our Governors and Presidents made great efforts in ensuring our alliance remained, despite it all. For over a year, we existed as allies, and several of their members had even formed a political party within our region. All was well, old wounds had mended, and we had all moved on from petty disputes in the hopes to keep a strong, united cause.

Or so I believed.

Mere days ago, I made my presence known in their Discord server to inquire about their elections, because they had pinged everyone in the announcement. I was in turn greeted by nothing but hostility and insults, when I had done nothing to hurt them, and our supposed grievances were ancient. I had made my apologies for my part in our disgruntlement ages ago, but they had apparently refused to move on from the past. I defended myself as respectfully as I could, but was quickly reprimanded and berated by the Auroran General Secretary, the Soviet Federation of Eurasia. I stood my ground, and as respectfully as I could, insisted upon my innocence in the following hostilities. He refused to see reason, and instead attacked me personally, referring to me as a supposedly jealous failure, insisting that he will defend his own people, no matter what.

This, combined with other things, finally made it clear to me. Aurora is not our ally. They are fascists merely pretending themselves as communists, so extreme in their beliefs they are the very thing they preach against. They censored people who disagreed with them, run a corrupted government, their Premier had expressed times in the past support for the DPRK, and in this following argument, their General Secretary openly admitted he would easily and willingly commit genocide.

I will not tolerate this blatant right wing filth in our region any longer. To protect the values upheld in our Constitution and as a decent human being, I hereby officially announce my FULL CONDEMNATION of the region of Aurora, its government, and hereby banish its General Secretary, the Soviet Federation of Eurasia, and his alt account, Gopnikistan, from our borders, for the violation of our Constitution, full support of genocide, and absurd corruption on and off site, and most importantly, for being shown to be fascist entirely in nature.

I also hereby ask that any and all of our allies follow suit in closing embassies and condemning the region of Aurora and its General Secretary in particular, in support of us, as well as support of the leftist cause across all Nationstates. If you have any questions, please reach out to me personally so I can answer any and all questions and concerns.

May we never bind our hands to that of the enemies of what we stand for ever again.

Firstly, we do not 'censor people who disagree with us'. In this specific instance, the aforesaid President was warned to avoid dredging up old drama which led him to leave Aurora in the first place. Admittedly, reactions on our side didn't help the situation and may not have been warranted, but what appear to have been unprovoked by us (considering what it was in response to) were messages such as this:
'You inherited a broken group who didn't care what you did. I didn't. These supposed reforms don't seem to have fixed anything, and several of your people are more active with us than here. Majority in this place isnt hard to achieve, and nobody said democracy fixed the problems, but I'm certainly confident leaving everything autocratic leaves no room for growth and serves to discourage new people getting involved. Not like that's what you want or care about anyways.'
We are of course happy to accept criticism and in fact some legal changes will be being made in response to this event, but this message, especially the latter part of it, breaks the rules of our Discord server with regards to civil debate and thus cannot reasonably be considered a good faith response or attempt at criticism. Owing to the nature of this message, he was warned for it. When the discussion moved to an argument over Wintercrest's politics between himself and Eurasia, we eventually decided to slowmode the channel in order to end a discussion which had exhibited considerable amounts of flaming - we will concede by both sides - and was not really appropriate for the chat of another region. We do not think a negative perception of that and other such messages, especially in light of some of them having what could easily have been, and was, interpreted as an inflammatory tone (calling us 'oligarchs' for instance), regardless of their actual intent, was unreasonable.

Secondly, our government is hardly 'corrupt' or an 'oligarchy'. While we do have issues with activity in general that often lead to a limited amount of democratic activity occurring, this is because Aurora is simply too small, quiet, and inactive of a region for regular elections to be a reasonable proposition, if no one is active enough to participate in or run them, and not because we have any issues with democratic ideals. We don't like our region being like this, but - and this has been a perennial problem that to a large extent was responsible for USSR leaving in the first place - we also don't necessarily or usually have the time, in our IRL lives, to make many efforts to fix it. Those citizens who are not currently part of the government (which is not a very large number) have been presented with opportunities to become government members via election nonetheless, and under the current Constitution, participation in legislative action is also democratised through whole-region referenda.

Thirdly, the assertion that our Premier has expressed support for the DPRK in the past is true. However, this strikes us as a very peculiar accusation to make considering that Wintercrest is allied (through NSLeft) with many other leftist regions that tolerate similar beliefs, and indeed its President himself has literally just recently, in a response to someone asking 'are DPRK supporters welcome in this region?' said that 'if you are willing to acknowledge their shortcomings, I should certainly say so.' Our Premier Korest/Dharitara has stated that he is not uncritical of the DPRK either, so we do not believe criticism on the basis of tolerating support of the DPRK is reasonable when not only is Wintercrest allied with many regions that do the same, but indeed appears to follow a similar stance itself. We believe that, like all peoples, the inhabitants of the DPRK have an inherent right to self-determination, so it follows that the DPRK has an inherent right to exist, and while the human rights abuses it commits are obviously unacceptable, generally we hold many other criticisms of the DPRK, and believe its flaws must be learned from, a necessity exists to separate extensive propaganda from reality in this instance, it still holds socialist goals and to exclude those who support them would be sectarian and incompatible with pan-leftism.

Finally, this is a wilful misinterpretation of the words of our General Secretary. We don't deny Eurasia has issues with his patriotism and attachment to his IRL country, as he himself admitted to having that issue (and that it is an issue) numerous times. Yet taking his words, quote "I'd nuke US if it as much as spit into Russia" because "I'd protect my people at the expense of others", as 'intention of genocide' is extreme overexaggeration for multiple reasons. For one, the message itself is clearly already exaggerated - a person wouldn't last in an NS region(an uncondemned one) more than several weeks if one in question truly believed in starting a nuclear war over a spit, and further, Aurorans have Americans among them, so such views, if strongly held and advocated for, by our head of state would've already led to tensions between Aurorans a long time ago that have self-evidently not materialised. Additionally, during said conversation, Eurasia explicitly stated that this would not be a good thing and that in fact it 'disgusted' him.

In light of all of this, and the fact that every member of Aurora - even those, such as Eurasia, with social-chauvinist tendencies that they regret, is staunchly opposed to such ideologies, we consider the characterisation of our region as 'fascist' to be offensive and entirely lacking in any basis in reality. We bear no ill will to the majority of Wintercrest, and consider you as friends, so we strongly urge you to retract this condemnation so that diplomatic relations can be normalised.
