The Userite Olympiad is a teams-based Swiss-system tournament where players on one team are matched with other players of the same intra-team rank on others. The teams are made up of four players each (at most) of varying skill levels. The games will be played on a 5+5 blitz time control, which means you start play with 5 minutes and gain 5 seconds every time you make a move on the chessboard!

Once two teams have played one another to completion, a winner will be determined based on the aggregate: a team scores 1 point if its players beat more than two (2) of their opponents, ½ point if the aggregate is tied, or 0 points if a team losses against more than two (2) of their opponents. After each team has played all other teams, the team with the most points wins the Olympiad as a whole!

As a note, depending on how many teams turn out, the tournament could last two hours at the very most, so clear up your schedule for tournament day if you need to! (Then again, it's chess.)

For a new team to join the Userite Olympiad, someone from within that region's government will have to reach out to me (The Washington Federation, @yellerguy) over Discord DMs or gameside telegrams, as I will be processing all requests to join the Olympiad. Once I have received your request (and your region isn't blacklisted), I will forward this request to a representative of every current member region of the Olympiad. If the member regions are unanimously in favor, welcome to the Olympiad!

In terms of who we allow, though we are called the Userite Olymiad (mainly out of all of the founding regions being user-created regions), we will allow game-created regions to form their own teams as well! However, we will not allow regions known for being discriminatory or regions that have been sanctioned by at least one of our member regions (or residents thereof) to join the Olympiad.

The wildcard team also exists for players who ended up not getting on their home region's team (or those who don't want to play for their home team) to compete! This route is also available for players who want to involve themselves in the Olympiad, but aren't sure about involving their region yet!

The Userite Olympiad originated as an attempt at a third joint chess arena between The Region That Has No Big Banks and Forest, with Starlight & Horizon, The Leftist Assembly, and 10000 Islands all joining within the first week of its conception to become the founding regions of the Olympiad!
