The Orson Empire wrote:Imperial Navy vessels in the region are ordered to be on high alert for Malian attacks and respond in kind. Large swarms of drones are being deployed to act as cover for warships and submarines, armed with missiles of their own. Point-defense will shoot down many of them, but it is hoped that at least some of the drones will be able to do damage, while also absorbing the bulk of laser, railgun, or missile fire and allowing the warships to make successful counterattacks. The navy is still making aggressive maneuvers wherever possible, stubborn in its conviction to intimidate the Wagains. Additionally, they hope that some Wagain vessels will be caught in the cross fire, causing an international incident between Mali and Wagondia.

Confederate submarines are choosing to stay submerged, using mainly torpedoes against the Orsonian warships and using attacks from multiple angles and hit-and-run tactics to keep their own damage minimal. These torpedoes are using experimental charges designed to get more explosive power than traditional conventional explosives by cracking the seawater into gaseous hydrogen and oxygen and then blowing up those gas bubbles with a second delayed explosive, they thusly do not need to surface as their design is to blow up underneath enemy vessels rather than impact them directly. Dealing their damage through the high pressure vapor column caused by underwater explosions.

These subs seem to be older models, with the more advanced ones further out in other operations. If forced to surface they have only rapid-fire point defense guns firing swarms of small bullets at high velocities and for an emergency anti-ship weapon a simple extensible cannon that uses hydrogen and oxygen pulled from the water to propel it's rounds at very high velocities where the friction with the air will ignite the flammable and reactive metals used in the round to try and ignite the magazines/fuel tanks of enemy vessels after punching/melting holes in bulkheads and backup armor belts. (This design was picked for it's ability to carry more shots than a normal cannon with rounds that have their own propellant and for it's higher odds of actually igniting ammunition magazines and good odds of igniting fuel tanks with the reactive metals outputting oxygen as they burn. It's not particularly great against lasers though, as they are already aerodynamically unstable from the gas venting of them burning mid-flight and wouldn't be too difficult for a laser to push it over the edge to structural failure and breaking apart.. However that laser would need to be pointed rather low to aim at the trajectory of the cannon rounds)

They also, of course, have their anti-ship cruise and short-range anti-ship ballistic missiles that have been a standard of naval warfare for decades at this point.. Which the missile designs are fairly advanced as one might expect for the time period, but still not to any degree that would be particularly effective against laser defenses. (These generation missiles attempt to go for speed and a sort-of spiraling approach to try and maximize the change in angle relative to the target they make each second to try and out-speed the rotation speed of turrets. This would work for inexperienced crews, but anyone who knows anything about these missiles would know to ignore the missile and aim up as the missile by the nature of it's evasive maneuvering has to make it's final approach from overhead making it rather "by the book" to deal with.)

Their primary goal will be to attempt to escape and find opportunities to dive again if forced to the surface, although some may choose to charge the Orsonian vessels with their cannon and launching all of their missiles if they feel they won't get a chance to escape.

With additional intel from the Novo Wagondia, the Subs are further refining their approaches and attack plans as well as the moments of launching their attacks to minimize odds of friendly fire.

Hope yíall are having a good week. Iíve had the week from hell. Long story short, my MacBook stopped working and despite thinking I had everything backed up, turns out it wasnít. After spending 7 hours running around campus trying to secure a loaner laptop (which Niner Tech, the on campus computer store, agreed to supply in 2017, but now they bluntly said they no longer do that. They also refused to help extract my data; I had to call a cousin in the school IT department for help!) and spending 84 bucks on cords Iíll probably never use again in my life, I managed to use a TV as an external monitor to back up my files, but then discovered that my thesis Iíve spent almost a year on, somehow reverted to a version from a month ago, with all my big edits since then gone. And because Iíve used my MacBook for the last three years, the Dell loaner I got from the library is...difficult to use since I have such little experience with Windows or this giant bulky monster that wonít even connect to my dorm wifi properly!
Gah. I have zero motivation to re-rewrite my thesis. And top it all off, my sister is feeling sick, and my resume was rejected with zero explanation as to why.
And thatís just yesterday.

Sorry to hear it, Cybus; that really sounds like a nightmare scenario. I have no idea what I'd do without my laptop, or even reliable wifi. I'm lucky enough to be able to rely on both, but of course all machines break at some point. If you haven't already, I would just explain your situation to the school and try to get an extension on the thesis, though obviously that doesn't stop you from having to re-write everything for a second time. Your summer is going to be a well-deserved break for sure.

I did. I emailed my thesis advisor and she said she wants a revised section of the thesis by tomorrow for evaluation. But, the professor who is in charge of my thesis class hasnít replied, which is stressful.

Damn Cybus, I agree that this is a horrible situation. I wish you the best in getting this fixed.

Thanks. I just want my laptop back as soon as possible.

It sucks hearing about the bad luck you've had yesterday. I hope everything goes well for you after all of this, Cybus.

Thanks! Iím struggling to get motivated to re-re-write my thesis. But unless I end up getting a kidney stone or getting hit by a bus like Regina George from Mean Girls, I doubt this week can get worse.

I feel you man. I couldn't imagine being forced to re-write something as complex as a dissertation a second time. I would lose my mind

I have my second draft, but every edit (all the big complicated important ones, in other words) since then somehow went missing.
