Loading...Anomaly Disposal Units are as their name indicates, devices for the dedicated purpose of disposing of Anomalies. ADUs vary in features and design quite widely, and also can be rather expensive pieces of equipment. They were introduced into regular Usage in the Confederation in 1991 with the first model ADU which used Thermite Throwers with silver containing Thermite Mixtures and even a feature to put in other materials to be mixed with the Thermite for special case anomalies with specific weaknesses.
In 1993 a second model ADU was introduced which was a particularly difficult model to use but theoretically could get rid of almost any anomaly (except those where disruption or destruction of their physical form would cause hazardous secondary effects) Anomalies were loaded into Tungsten Coffins lined with typically anomaly resistant materials and loaded into the device wherein a single use nuclear reactor would be inserted above which is designed to intentionally melt down and fill the coffin with Corium to destroy anomalies with sheer intensity of radiation. These Tungsten Coffins would be buried with multiple redundant "catchers" and sealed containers to keep the radioactive material contained from environmental exposure.
In 1996 The Third Model ADU was introduced which used a Micro-nuclear shaped charge to destroy the Anomaly. Understandably this model required replacement parts every single operation.
In 2002 The Fourth ADU was introduced which used equipment similar to that of SITI-EARL and the EQE Laboratory of Glossy Sands before it's destruction. This model would generate and accelerate Alpha particles to relativistic speeds and then run them through a Beryllium film to convert the Alpha Particle Beam into a Neutron Beam which is directed into a target inside the Containment Chamber to synthesize absurdly heavy elements which then immediately decay with absurd levels of radioactivity which rapidly die down due to half lives of the insanely heavy isotopes being mere nanoseconds. There's also a secondary mode wherein an artifact can be inserted and triggered to unleash anomalous energy into the chamber for anomalies that simply cannot be disposed of with intense mundane energy spikes. This model required frequent maintenance and replacement parts due to neutron embrittlement.
The only model that was phased entirely out was the Second Model, the First, Third, and Fourth models continued to operate for their own particular use cases simultaneously until the fall of the SSO wherein these outdated ADUs were replaced with a Fifth Model which had the first transducers that could convert more mundane energies directly into anomalous forms (with inefficiencies of course) and had particle manipulators capable of splitting and fusing atoms and subatomic particles in precise configurations and focusing energies with extreme precision.
The Fifth Model would be the final ADU design and would instead of being replaced with entirely different models would just be upgraded over time with new capabilities for example Fundamental Force Manipulation and Omniphase Technology. However ADUs became less and less important over time as the capabilities of field weapons against Anomalies increased. It became trivial for an agent to simply pull out a weapon and destroy an anomaly completely and with the public knowledge of the Anomalous under the OAI it became much less risky to try to use diplomacy with anomalous entities. Integration of friendly anomalous entities became steadily more easy in Confederate society with widespread access to anomalous powers to the general public after the Day of Blood. They were eventually relegated to storage and entirely retired despite still technically being around to use.
Anomalous Slide Projectors
Slide projectors are used by the Office of Control to open wormholes between different locations in Reality or between different universes, achieving instantaneous teleportation of objects and people over vast distances.
They are modeled after the original anomalous projector, discovered in 2007 alongside a box full of slides. The "images" on each slide were actually depictions of locations across the universe or in completely different realities, and that projecting them opened a portal to this location. Slide 36 opened a portal to the Hiss universe, causing the First Hiss Incursion in 2008.
Slide Projectors include a digital control panel, powered using electromancy, batteries, or a plug. This control panel uses the Auto-Incant software to generate the complex incantations necessary in forming a wormhole. This process is fueled by talismans charged with psychic energy, or an incantation to summon anomalous energy directly.
Portals may be temporary or stable; stable portals may be one-way (permitting an object or person to enter but not come back, or vice versa) or two-way. Stable portals require a constant source of energy to maintain. Omniphase energy can be used to transform wormholes from an anomaly into a "real" object, permitting them to remain open even when psychic suppression technology is deployed.
Slides are created by Control's research and development division through scrying, forming a temporary telepathic link with the slide to cast an image of the target location on it. Blank slides will open portals to a random location in the multiverse.
Super El-Niño Threatens Orson
The Orsonian Meteorology Administration, part of the Interior Commission, has published an article warning of dire impacts from the developing El Niño in the equatorial Pacific Ocean.
Sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern Pacific Ocean are projected to be four degrees celsius above average by November, resulting in the strongest El Niño in 1,000 years. The impact will be even worse due to global warming, causing strong heatwaves, drought, and wildfires across southern Africa, south/southeast Asia, and Australia. Wildfires already destroyed 95,000 hectares of Indonesian land in July, while the monsoon over India is rapidly weakening.
Drought in particular is expected to cause a crisis for the Orsonian food supply by 2027, with millions of people potentially facing acute hunger. In Australia, low rainfall and heat waves could cause wildfires to spread across the continent and threaten water supplies for major cities, requiring the activation of desalination plants. The economic damage to Orson could be in the hundreds of billions of Osperitas from crop failures and supply chain disruptions.
Due to the severity of this crisis, the Interior Commission has recommended weather modification across the Pacific Ocean to the Senate. A proposal was submitted to the Office of Control to lower sea surface temperatures using anomalous methods and return the climate to normal. The Senate is now debating the issue, but there are concerns that such drastic measures could cause an international incident if the other great powers object to any unilateral interference in natural climate cycles.
Oceara and Novo Wagondia
Ambassador Barrachina has met with his colleagues in Ravenor to propose Orsonian membership in the Banco Calórico, an initiative by the Wagain Ministry of Agriculture to purchase domestic crop surpluses at discounted rates and divert them towards overseas humanitarian efforts. Though still in its pilot phase, a successful rollout of the program in West Africa could lead to its expansion into Orson and other food-insecure regions, particularly as a stabilization measure after natural disasters or periods of drought or famine.
As news of the debate over weather modification in the Orsonian Senate has reached Wagain policymakers, an alternative proposal has been suggested in the halls of the UCP, which would see a blanket resolution passed mandating international agreement on any regional-scale weather modification efforts. The Wagain delegation views global climatic management as an essential area for peaceful international cooperation, and believes short-sighted national interventions could inadvertently lead to cascading problems for the biosphere if their impacts are not properly studied and anticipated by all who may be affected. A potential option would be to route all proposals for planetary climatic modification through the London-based Council Meteorological Institute (CMI), where all UCP member states are represented equally.
The Emergency Aid has shown signs of success in stabilizing the country, and despite extensive efforts by the Government to rush out a comprehensive response to anomalous activity across the country it would become apparent that the Day of Blood has caused far, far, more damage than the mass casualty event itself. Every night the air fills with haunting noises, strange lights, and screams. Some a replay of the previous tragedy, some new. Something of a scale far too big to keep hidden. No wonder why the Government has assigned military escorts to every single group of aid workers across the country and they're equipped with the new Omniphase weapons.
The Government would announce a 20 Year Recovery Plan, that heavily focuses on an "Anomalous Contamination Crisis" outright stating that there are 20 Million Psychic screams scorched into virtually every location in the whole country and that the already Major effects of this have lead to additional anomalous activity that is propagating further contamination of the environment with supernatural energies faster than the OAI is able to clean it up alone.
As such, the government has rushed out a compromise filled bill setting standards and regulations for a new grim industry of "Scream Sweepers" private sector specialists in cleaning up anomalous contamination from the environment to be rapidly trained and equipped by the OAI as fast as possible to get the situation under control.
Returning stabilization assets from the Norma Arm are helping to keep the effects subdued enough to not pose an immediate existential risk to the overall population but they are not made to handle something of this scale scorched into the land itself. The new Fixer Offices are helping keep the anomalies that manifest regardless of the stabilizers from harming the broader public.. As much. Further reinforced by large scale military presence throughout the country including interstellar peacekeepers from multiple different alien civilizations. Their presence further indicates the scale of the disaster, but at least would grant curious Wagains in the aid efforts an opportunity to learn about some civilizations from a different part of the Galaxy.

Further announcements for the rating of more localized areas throughout the country on the scale are expected soon to give a more complete picture as to the situation throughout the country.
The Confederate Government is largely preoccupied and would not openly protest a unilateral action by the Orsonian Government unless it directly would threaten themselves or an ally but has expressed support for a resolution on international agreement for climate adjustment technology usage and supports the idea for it to be through sending proposals to the CMI in London.
It happened again. Luckily it was when the rack was cold. Each wheel is held on by 4 bolts, and when this most recent incident occurred I thought to pull out one of the bolts and examine it.
It had corroded to the point where the metal was only about 1 to 2 millimeters thick in some spots. Most of the racks have bolts that appear to be rusted to this same degree so I have recommended to my boss to put in a ticket for all of the bolts to be replaced on all of the wheels for all of the racks.
Hopefully the replacement will occur before I get back from my Vacation.
The Office of Control has rejected any plan for weather modification, due to the unknown environmental consequences of rapidly decreasing the sea surface temperatures over such a large area, and Control does not want to be responsible for any damage caused. The Orsonian UCP delegation is concerned about the proposed resolution, believing the right to modify weather within national borders is a matter of national sovereignty.
The Federal Cabinet has voted in favor of joining Banco Calorico. However, the conservative-controlled government has announced that food from the program will only be distributed in city centers rather than suburban townships or rural areas.
Communists immediately protested the decision, believing the majority biological and Kapok Orsonian population in city centers would have an advantage in claiming the food for themselves over the majority human population in townships.
