I was inspired by the covenant meaning of the rainbow po.
The promise that it represents in the flag is that all of humanity and it's allies will be strong and prosperous.
The reason why it's upside down is because the promise is harder, near impossible, to achieve. But will be be done.

RMB Rules and Etiquette

by The tsp local council

Hello! Welcome to the South Pacific, and its regional message board, or RMB! It is a vibrant, active place where people from all around the world can hang out and talk. It is the region's primary place of communication, and is open to all types of conversations, debates, and overall fun. However, without some form of rules, the RMB would be a wild, annoying, and downright un-enjoyable place. And so, due to this, rules must be laid down and enforced. These are important to protect everyone's safety, dignity, and sanity. So we all ask that you please take the time to read the following rules, and try your hardest to follow them. Remember, there are consequences for breaking the rules.

Note: The “Fundamental Rule” portion of each guideline is meant as a summary of the rule. The official text of the rule may be found in the “Details” spoiler.

Breaking these rules can result in consequences including warnings, post suppressions, and in the the case of repeated or serious infractions, ejection and banning from the region. The full, detailed Local Council Standard Moderation Policy, which specifies the exact consequences for various levels of rule-breaking, can be found here.

And so, after much introduction, here are your RMB Rules:

1. Say Neigh to Spam

Fundamental Rule: Don't spam. Spamming is bad. It is the first rule for a reason.

Details:
Spamming on the RMB is not allowed at all, under any circumstances. Spamming is probably best described as a post that is meaningless and/or unnecessary— for example, a post that repeats the same thing multiple times, a lone emoji or image, multiple posts of the same thing, or a series of posts that have no apparent meaning. It does not matter what your intent is— if your post(s) fits the above definition, it is considered spam and will be dealt with accordingly.

2. English is our Mane Language

Fundamental Rule: Posts on the Regional Message Board must be in English, or include an English translation.

Details:
We understand that many of you come from backgrounds where English is not your main language, as players come from all around the world. However, to avoid confusion among people who don't speak your language, we sincerely ask that you post in English only, for ease of communication.

Remember, there are tools like LinkGoogle Translate to help you. If you speak in another language, please add a translation to English in the same post. Posts with English translations will not be suppressed. For the avoidance of doubt, English means Modern English and not backwards English.

3. Keep Our Region Stable

Fundamental Rule: Don’t ask for people to endorse you on the Regional Message Board. Don’t ask for people to move to another region.

Details:
Asking for endorsements on the RMB is not allowed at all, under any circumstances. Ever. Permissions are only made if the requester is a member of the Council on Regional Security, the Coral Guard, or the Delegate seeking to increase endorsement counts for the purposes of promoting regional security.

If you want to receive and give more endorsements, get involved in the Southern World Assembly Initiative, TSP’s endorsement program.

Similarly, recruiting, or telling people to move to another region, is also not allowed. You may not ask people to join your region on the RMB, whether you are also a South Pacifican citizen yourself or not.

4. So a Horse walks into a bar ...

Fundamental Rule: Roleplay on the Regional Message Board, but do not break any other rules. If you're feeling nice or your roleplay is a bit niche or particularly nation driven, please consider taking your roleplaying to Knowhere.

Details:
It's all legal! As long as it complies with the rules. Specifically; remember to keep your roleplays appropriate (as stated in rule IX). The LC has reached a general conclusion on what is appropriate, and if your roleplay does not fit within those boundaries, it will be stopped. So, excessive display of affection, sexually-suggesting roleplay, and the like, are not allowed at all.

Similarly, do not clog the RMB with your roleplay. If you feel it has been going on for a while, either take it to a roleplay region, or cease it all together. Otherwise, it may be interfered with. When the board is dominated by roleplay, it becomes hard for everyone else to communicate with each-other, thanks to the overabundance of posts completely unrelated to what they are doing.

But other than those things, feel free to roleplay to your heart's content!

5. Hold your Horses

Fundamental Rule: Don’t post on the Regional Message Board three times or more in a row.

Details:
Triple posting, or posting three posts in a row, is considered illegal, as are any other number of posts more than two in a row. All posts after the initial two post will be suppressed. If one hour has passed without another post on the RMB a single third post will be allowed

6. Keep your nose in your own feedbag

Fundamental Rule: Don’t reveal other players’ personal information.

Details:
It is not permitted to post or otherwise share another player's personally-identifying information (i.e. social media accounts, IP addresses, postal addresses, E-mail addresses, telephone numbers, etc.), and neither is it permitted to post or share information that may not be identifying but is nonetheless of a personal nature (i.e. medical history, relationship status, etc.). The only exception is if the player in question has shared that information themselves and does not mind its dissemination (this sharing or statement of permission must be publically viewable).

Making a claim of serious out-of-character misconduct (e.g. bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, etc.) against someone else, without providing evidence to moderation/administration, is considered malicious harassment, and will be dealt with accordingly. This rule applies to the TSP forum and discord as well.

7. Get Off Your High Horse

Fundamental Rule: Trolling, baiting or flaming of others is not allowed under any circumstances.

Details:
Trolling is defined as starting quarrels or upsetting people by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the intent of provoking other nations into displaying emotional responses. Baiting is similar to trolling, and is defined as posting with the aim of angering someone indirectly, directed at a specific person. Flaming is defined as posting insults or other verbal and often personal attacks on other nations. Erudite slams while maintaining a veneer of politeness can also be considered flaming. All three of these are banned under all circumstances.

This is an extension of a simple policy of respect. What may seem like good natured fun to you could be trolling to someone else, and if they tell you to stop, do so.
We can and will warn, suppress, and even ban you, as well as record the incident. In severe cases the NationStates Moderators will be contacted, and puppets will not hide your IP address from them.

8. You Canter Break Site Rules

Fundamental Rule: No matter where you are in NationStates, the rules for the game still apply.

Details:
TSP is a part of NationStates, and as such, you must follow the rules of the game as a whole at all times. Breaking the game rules will land you in trouble with both the regional officers and NationStates site moderation. See the link below for the list of rules and a quick FAQ page for more details on the game rules.

NationStates Rules

NationStates FAQ

9. Mind Your Dam Manners

Fundamental Rule: Don’t post anything that would not be allowed in a PG-13 movie.

Details:
Excessive swearing, explicit, suggestive, or excessively violent messages, sexual references, and other such things will be suppressed on sight, and the NationStates site moderators can and will be called to get involved in serious cases. Excessive displays of personal affection (e.g. suggestive roleplayed snuggling, nuzzling, kissing, licking and so on) is also considered inappropriate and will be suppressed accordingly.

Mild swearing may be tolerated, mild sexuality may be at the very most hinted, but explicit or excessive versions of either or both will result in moderation intervention, both from the Local Council and potentially from NationStates site moderators. Derogatory terms are disallowed, and all swearing must abide by all other rules, particularly those about respecting others.

10. Straight from the horse’s mouth

Fundamental Rule: Do not edit someone's post in a malicious way or repost offensive content.

Details:
It is illegal to edit what someone else has written when quoting it in order to make it seem like they expressed a view which they didn’t. Quote-editing should be avoided even for comic effect.

When you are responding to someone's post, please quote their post (by pressing the "quote" button), as it makes it less confusing and will alert them to your post.

When quoting an offensive post, delete the content of the post and replace it with "-snip-". Doing so makes the administrators’ jobs much easier.

When quoting long posts, please cut the post down to the particular parts you are responding to, or replace the extraneous material with "-snip-".

11. Crop Your Post

Fundamental Rule: Use spoilers when making or quoting a very long post.

Details:
The [spoiler] tag is your friend. When making or quoting a very long post, or one which not everyone might want to read, please add spoilers, so as to avoid taking up a large amount of the page.

If you are giving a spoiler of a recently released book or film, put it in a spoiler tag, to give people who haven't read/watched it a chance. As a general rule of thumb, give a month for films post-release (as release dates may be different in different areas) and two months for book releases.

12. Rein In Rudeness

Fundamental Rule: The golden rule: treat others how you want to be treated.

Details:
Remember, there are other, real people behind the nations on the RMB. Everyone here is a human being with emotions and the right to be respected.

While dissent with regional officers (LC, Delegate, CRS, and Ministers) is perfectly acceptable, remember that they are people too, and worthy of basic human decency. The regional officers should be respected at all times just as any other member of the region should.

When debating, always remember to attack the argument rather than the person making it. If you find yourself getting heated, try to take a step back. Personal insults, insults to intelligence, etc. will not be tolerated. The only form of debate banned on the RMB is that over a particular suppression. For more information, see the Help Section at the end of this document.

13. Don't Ride on Foals

Fundamental Rule: Single word or similarly short posts are not appreciated on the RMB.

Details:
Single word posts that do not advance conversation are not allowed. If you find yourself wondering if a post is both unsubstantial and too short, it likely is. This rule does not mean you have to post several paragraphs of content every time you want to post. Single sentence posts, single word greetings, and single-word replies quoting other posts are still allowed under this rule.

However, at the discretion of the Local Council, posts deemed to be insubstantial and not contributing to the regional discourse will be suppressed. An excellent way to avoid this is to add thought to your posts.

Thank you for reading, and remember to follow these guidelines!

Now sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay here in TSP!

~~~HELP!~~~
If you believe a post breaks the rules and should be suppressed, wish to appeal to have a post unsuppressed, wish to appeal a formal warning, or have any questions about the laws of the RMB, you can contact your current Local Councillors through telegrams:
Greetings New Minion!
Welcome to the South Pacific!
My name is Amerion but people refer to me as the Admiral Delegate General and it’s my pleasure to introduce you to your new home away from home, the South Pacific!
The South Pacific is one of the largest, oldest, and most powerful regions in the game. It’s an incredibly diverse community of people just like you! I’ve been playing NationStates for several years and I can honestly say with a hand on my heart that this is the best region (!!!) for any player, new or old — there's just so much you can try your hand in:
⦿ Participate in the Southern World Assembly Initiative (SWAN): After you have joined the World Assembly and endorsed the Delegate, you can take a step further by participating in SWAN! This is the best way to have more endorsements and influence on your nation and help our region more secure and powerful.
⦿ Help the region vote on WA resolutions: Help the Admiral Delegate General and regional nations to decide how to vote on WA resolutions that govern the world before they are brought to the floor with the Office of WA Legislation (OWL).
⦿ LinkBecome a legislator: Join our legislature the Assembly, where you can take part in our politics and let your voice heard by making, debating, voting on laws, and electing those who lead the region.
⦿ LinkJoin the executive branch: If you prefer to get a hand in the day-to-day running of the region or just want to try out your real-life skills, you should join a ministry or department in the executive branch. The executive branch offers a wide variety of activities such as foreign affairs work, journalism, engagement with new players, events and festivals, management, graphic design, and a lot more!
⦿ LinkRoleplay (RP): You can roleplay about wars, trading, or anything else about your nation with other nations on gameside using Knowhere or on Linkour regional forum if you want more formality. Roleplaying is awesome if you like writing, creating stories, and dislike the limits on creativity that issue answering imposes.
⦿ LinkEnlist in the military: The South Pacific Special Forces is our region's elite military force that defenses our region, our allies, and innocent regions from invasions alongside eradicating fascists and other hateful and destructive forces throughout NationStates. It engages in operations ranging from small scale to complex high-stake missions. If you like something fast-paced and require strategic thinking, the military is what you want!
⦿ And So. Much. More! You can read all about it in this dispatch —
page=dispatch/id=1192500
Your Supreme Leader,
Amerion
Admiral Delegate General of the South Pacific
The Supreme Leader of all Minions, His Majesty, the Admiral Delegate General Stewie G., Delegate of the South Pacific, the Magnificent Ultimate Leader of all of NationStates, High Autocrat of the New Minion Order, King of Kings, Democratic President and Prime-Minister-For-Life, Chairman and Supreme General Secretary Admiral of the People’s Republic of the South Pacific, Invincible and All-Triumphant Lord Commander, Grand Dentist of the Ice Cream Association, Chief Ophthalmologist and board-certified Dermatologist of the South Pacific Special Forces, Brilliant Genius of Humanity, Noble Prize winner in everything but Peace, and Benevolent Oppressor and Ruthless Protector of the Expendable People of Amerion.
Welcome to NationStates and the South Pacific!
Hello there, and congratulations on founding your very own nation! We know you’ve probably got your hands full governing millions of citizens, but we also wanted to introduce you to your region. A region is simply a community of nations, and every new nation like yourself starts out in one. If you’re reading this, that means you’re in the region of the South Pacific (TSP). That’s us — welcome!
But what can you do in a region? We’re glad you asked! Regions are a great way to get to know and play NationStates with other players. Every region has something different to offer, but here in the South Pacific, some of the things we’re known for include…
  • The oldest extant democracy on NationStates, running since 2003, with a stable, democratic, and highly-developed government;
  • A regional military that’s one of the leading forces defending other regions from attack;
  • Vibrant roleplay universes, where players build up the lore of their country; and
  • A friendly and welcoming community of players just like you.
No matter what you’re interested in, we’re sure there’s something for you. The choice is yours!
If you have any questions about NationStates or our region, feel free to join our LinkDiscord server or Linkregional forums to chat with other members of our community. We'd be happy to help you!
What can I do in the South Pacific?
Hang out with everybody
Become a SWAN Knight
Quick and easy but very important!
SWAN Knights are our region's main line of defense against foreign invaders and security issues. It is highly recommended that you become one. It is very easy to do, just follow these steps:
Step 1: To join World Assembly, go to your settings page, set an email address, click World Assembly on the left sidebar, click Apply to Join, then follow the instructions it displays.
Step 2: Endorse the Delegate and member nations of the Coral Guard in the list below. To endorse a nation, click on the nation name to open its page, scroll down, then click the Endorse button.
Join the military
Protect innocent regions across NationStates
Our military offers exciting, fast-paced gameplay and the chance to defend innocent regions and communities all across NationStates from unjustified attacks.
NationStates doesn’t have wars between nations (although you can roleplay it, look below for more info), but it does have wars between regions. Our regional military, the LinkSouth Pacific Special Forces (SPSF), is one of NationStates' premier defender militaries, which means we work to protect innocent regions from attack by hostile invaders. It's a great way to get in on some exciting, fast-paced action with (and against) other players while protecting innocent communties across the game!
How do I enlist in the military?
Simply Linkmake an account on our regional forum, then head over to the LinkGetting Involved wizard, check the "I'd like to join the SPSF" box (as well as any other areas you're interested in), and follow the instructions there.
LinkJoin the South Pacific Special Forces ➔
Join our legislature, the Assembly
Shape our regional laws
The Assembly is our regional legislature. It consists of legislators who create, debate, and vote on laws covering the rights of citizens of our region, our foreign policy towards other regions, the way our regional officer powers are allocated, and a lot more.
As a legislator, you can craft, debate, and vote on laws just like in a real government. The Assembly offers rich, lively political debate and is the perfect venue for you to voice your beliefs and shape our region. You can learn a ton about writing laws and dealing with legisative procedures by participating in the Assembly.
How do I join?
LinkBecome a citizen (look above for how), then follow the instructions Linkhere.
LinkJoin the Assembly ➔
Participate in roleplay
Build up your nation's lore and history
Many NationStates players enjoy roleplay (RP), where you get to build up the lore of your country and its people with other players. Whether you’re looking to write stories about your people, report on news from your nation, or simulate trade relations or even war, roleplay is a great choice to get involved.
Our roleplay communities are a perfect outlet to unleash your creativity and formulate your country’s lore and history.
How do I join?
We have a couple of roleplay universes you can join:
  • LinkPacifica is our main modern-tech roleplay universe set in the world known as Pacifica
  • LinkSector A1-0 is a universe for Future Tech sci-fi roleplay.
  • LinkAurora is a medieval-era fantasy roleplay universe.
To participate, just Linkmake an account on our regional forum, then post your roleplay on whatever universe you want. Remember to read the About post (e.g. About: Pacifica canon) of an universe first to make sure you know the world and rules!
Aside from the forum, you can do informal roleplay or ask any question about roleplay on Linkour Discord server.
LinkJoin the forum for forum roleplay ➔
Still not sure?
That’s okay! We think we have a little bit to offer everyone, but if nothing catches your eye right now, no worries! We’d love to just chat with you and get to know you a bit better. Feel free to Linkmake an account on our regional forums or Linkjoin our Discord server.
The "I'm new to NationStates I have no idea what I'm doing" Comprehensive Guide to NationStates
*Or more sadly, the "I wished I had this comprehensive, yet mildly funny guide when I was new" Guide to NationStates
🚧 This guide is still under construction!
Please bear with us as we add more and more content.
Thank you all for your support!
Hello newbie, welcome to NationStates! NationStates is a multiplayer text-based nation state simulator which was created to promote a new novel known as Jenn- oh whoops you drifted off already.
Yeah no .. I'm not going to bore you. You're welcome. The guide is written in chronological order, but you can skip to specific parts using the contents page.
My telegrams are being bombarded. How the f*ck do I stop this spam?
Oof. The first thing most new players get is a cascade of junk mail in their inbox. A large majority of your spam mail are recruitment telegrams which want you to join their region (I'll explain that in the future, but basically they're like tribes or clans).
But right now you don't give a sh*t. Firstly, we need to stop more garbage polluting your inbox. To do this, click this link. Under Filter, go to Recruitment and click Block All.
Click update filter when done. Now you will no longer receive more recruitment bullsh*t! Hooray🎊! All you need to do now is to delete your inbox and send angry telegrams telling your spammers to never spam you again.
[ Return to Contents ]
What are issues?
Issues are the main feature of NationStates and it's the thing that makes the game fun! You are the leader of your country, and issues are scenarios your country is going through. Each issue has a list of different options you can pick to resolve these scenarios. The fun thing about all the issues is that usually none of the options are 'good'. They all have drawbacks and some of the options you pick can have unintended consequences.
Let's take a look at an example...
Oh dear. In this issue, you basically have two options: force the company to give the pay rise or frankly fire the fish farmers furiously (I apologise for the abject alliteration).
So let's assume you go for the "DSJFJISDFJISDFJIPSDF CAPITALISM! DESTROY CAPITALISM NOW!!111" option. Under this scenario, the workers now have a 20% pay rise and the prospect of not having fish and chips this Friday has been thoroughly diffused. Power to the workers🚩! Viva la Revolution or whatever you hip socialists say nowadays, idk.
The unintended consequence however is that now your people know if they want something, they can go on strike. So they will do... like all the time. And you'll be getting a f*ckton of strikes now.
To illustrate why this may not be a good thing, I have hired an economist from the Department of the Treasury of His Excellency to draft a graph showing the relationship between economic productivity and the amount of people going on strike:
In other words, your economy is going to die. Oof.
So let's go for the other option then, i.e. "Tiannamen Square 2: Electric Boogaloo (ft. Margaret Thatcher)". Crush those fish f*ckers! Now you've given companies and corporations more power to make your economy more competitive. Yay to laissez-faire economics📈!
As a side effect of relaxing industrial laws, now thousands of people will randomly be fired (because their bosses don't like them or something), creating mass unemployment. And also.. uh.. rolling in the tanks isn't very.. shall we say.. conducive to democracy I mean like, as a dictatorship this is actually a very very good thing, but this guide is supposed to be "impartial" so pshhh.
So overall, none of the options are 'good' options. They all have glaring flaws in them. So you have to pick the best one out of all your crappy options. But that is what makes this game so fun! There is no 'right' answer, and some options have wildly unanticipated side effects. Issues are important because the way you answer issues affect the statistics and status of your country (which will be explained in more depth in the next question).
[ Return to Contents ]
What are civil rights, economy and political freedom? Isn't 'political freedom' an oxymoron?
Civil rights, economy and so-called political freedom are the main gauges of your nation. Every time you do an issue, your civil rights, economy or political freedoms will go either up or down. Your nation classification (in this example, the classification is Civil Rights Lovefest) depends on how much civil rights, economic freedom and political freedoms your country has.
In this example, a progressive policy has led to the economy to go down. But don't worry! You'll soon have lots of other issues which will give you opportunities to get it back up. It is possible to have any classification and increase your statistics even if they're currently crappy, it just takes time and answering specific issues.
So to roughly recap, here is a table you can refer to tell you what your country is like:
Statistic
Having lots means..
Having little means..
Civil rights
Pot-smoking, gay rights loving, liberty spreading, freedom embracing lovefest
Slavery is a good idea as it gives people jobs which they can never resign from
Economy
GDP is bigger than a potato
GDP is a potato
Economic freedom
Pinochet did nothing wrong
Stalin did nothing wrong
Political freedoms
Rule by ballot
Rule by ballistic missile
It is also possible to check your statistics over time. If you go to Trend, you can see the ups and downs of your basic metrics (civil rights, economy and political freedoms) in the form of a graph.
Presumably you are a noob, in which case your graph will consist of three straight lines. If you're an old player, you can see something slightly more interesting than straight lines like squiggles, bumps, dramatic falls and exponential rises. *The audience proceeds to go "ooooh"*
Just look at this very exciting graph!
What do you mean you don't care?
However, civil rights, economy and political freedom aren't the only metrics and measurements you can use to gauge your nation. There are also other ways you can measure your nation such as the policies it has enacted (which will be discussed in the next question).
[ Return to Contents ]
What are policies? And lul wut since when did I legalise polygamy?
Policies are general laws your nation has passed. You get new policies by answering issues. Depending on what policies your country has, you may get certain issues. For example, if you are an autocracy (dictatorship), you won't get any issues related to democracy. The fun thing about policies is they are a by-product of issues, and therefore sometimes you will enact a new policy as an unintended consequence.
For example, look at this cute little boy on the right. He has a passion for acting. Who could dare to crush his innocent dreams of being an aspiring actor? me lol SURPRISE BISH💥 You just legalised child labour. Now go work in the factories for the fatherland! *throws the cute child into the assembly line*
Or, another example, marriage laws. If you have a compassion level that is higher than a literal kidney stone, you would be naturally inclined to legalise gay marriage. However, read the small print very carefully. Or ... SURPRISE BISH💥 You just legalised polygamy. Not what you meant? Sorry, your civil servants got a bit overzealous and now you have this weird law you did not ask for or maybe you did, I mean I won't judge😒.
Like statistics and all the other metrics, policies are reversible. So don't worry if you have a democratic robo-socialist polygamous pot-smoking feudal society. Just give it time, answer the right issues, and it will change.
What are the 'people', 'government' and 'economy' statistics?
The categories of "people", "government" and "economy" are another form of metrics to gauge your nation. Each three of these options are presented in a pie chart. [insert sarcastic amusement here] It's not really that exciting unless if you like maths and yes I call it maths do you have a problem, no that's what I thought.
So unless if this arouses you in some way...
You really needn't bother. I am only aroused when 100% of money is spent on defending oil- I mean uh self-defence yeah.
What are ranks? Is this just more statistics?
Ranks are individual statistics to measure your nation. They vary from boring statistics such as "economic output", to more average ones like "averageness" (yes there is a literal statistic on averageness), to more exciting interesting ones like level of public "nudity".
"Holy sh*t. Why are there so many statistics in NationStates?" That's a dumb question. You're playing a text-based simulator you dimwit. What did you expect? "Are you making me ask stupid questions to insinuate and perpetuate stereotypes of my ignorance as a noob?" Yes.
Depending on how you answer every issue, your plethora of statistics change. To see these changes, you can scroll down after answering an issue.
What makes ranks so much more different that the other eight million other statistics in NationStates, is that you can get badges for ranking high on each of these ranks!
These badges appear below your nation's main page and they are usually a source of honour and pride for the owner of the account. Green badges are given to top 10% of nations (of that certain statistic) in the entire game, orange badges are given to the top 5% and golden badges given to the top 1%.
As you can see, this is my own private collection. I'm extremely proud and honoured to have the Top 1% for Public Nudity. "I don't care, do you have any other information regarding ranks?" My golden badge reflects on a sadder tone of general society. Societal progres- "Yeah OK, I'm going then." - WAIT WHERE ARE YOU GOING?
What are regions?
Time to finally explain what regions actually are. While your individual nations are the single player aspect of the game, regions are the multiplayer aspect. Regions are basically groups, clans or guilds. Every nation must be part of a region. As you've probably encountered beforehand, there are a f*ckton of regions and they all want you to join them.
If you are a newbie, you are probably in one of the five main starter regions: the Pacific, the North Pacific, the South Pacific, the East Pacific and the West Pacific. New nations are automatically randomly assigned to be born in one of these starter regions, s-pacifically known as 'feeder' regions. I refuse to apologise for this pun.
RMB Rules and Etiquette
by The tsp local council
Hello! Welcome to the South Pacific, and its regional message board, or RMB! It is a vibrant, active place where people from all around the world can hang out and talk. It is the region's primary place of communication, and is open to all types of conversations, debates, and overall fun. However, without some form of rules, the RMB would be a wild, annoying, and downright un-enjoyable place. And so, due to this, rules must be laid down and enforced. These are important to protect everyone's safety, dignity, and sanity. So we all ask that you please take the time to read the following rules, and try your hardest to follow them. Remember, there are consequences for breaking the rules.
Note: The “Fundamental Rule” portion of each guideline is meant as a summary of the rule. The official text of the rule may be found in the “Details” spoiler.
Breaking these rules can result in consequences including warnings, post suppressions, and in the the case of repeated or serious infractions, ejection and banning from the region. The full, detailed Local Council Standard Moderation Policy, which specifies the exact consequences for various levels of rule-breaking, can be found here.
And so, after much introduction, here are your RMB Rules:
1. Say Neigh to Spam
Fundamental Rule: Don't spam. Spamming is bad. It is the first rule for a reason.
Details:
Spamming on the RMB is not allowed at all, under any circumstances. Spamming is probably best described as a post that is meaningless and/or unnecessary— for example, a post that repeats the same thing multiple times, a lone emoji or image, multiple posts of the same thing, or a series of posts that have no apparent meaning. It does not matter what your intent is— if your post(s) fits the above definition, it is considered spam and will be dealt with accordingly.
2. English is our Mane Language
Fundamental Rule: Posts on the Regional Message Board must be in English, or include an English translation.
Details:
We understand that many of you come from backgrounds where English is not your main language, as players come from all around the world. However, to avoid confusion among people who don't speak your language, we sincerely ask that you post in English only, for ease of communication.
Remember, there are tools like LinkGoogle Translate to help you. If you speak in another language, please add a translation to English in the same post. Posts with English translations will not be suppressed. For the avoidance of doubt, English means Modern English and not backwards English.
3. Keep Our Region Stable
Fundamental Rule: Don’t ask for people to endorse you on the Regional Message Board. Don’t ask for people to move to another region.
Details:
Asking for endorsements on the RMB is not allowed at all, under any circumstances. Ever. Permissions are only made if the requester is a member of the Council on Regional Security, the Coral Guard, or the Delegate seeking to increase endorsement counts for the purposes of promoting regional security.
If you want to receive and give more endorsements, get involved in the Southern World Assembly Initiative, TSP’s endorsement program.
Similarly, recruiting, or telling people to move to another region, is also not allowed. You may not ask people to join your region on the RMB, whether you are also a South Pacifican citizen yourself or not.
4. So a Horse walks into a bar ...
Fundamental Rule: Roleplay on the Regional Message Board, but do not break any other rules. If you're feeling nice or your roleplay is a bit niche or particularly nation driven, please consider taking your roleplaying to Knowhere.
Details:
It's all legal! As long as it complies with the rules. Specifically; remember to keep your roleplays appropriate (as stated in rule IX). The LC has reached a general conclusion on what is appropriate, and if your roleplay does not fit within those boundaries, it will be stopped. So, excessive display of affection, sexually-suggesting roleplay, and the like, are not allowed at all.
Similarly, do not clog the RMB with your roleplay. If you feel it has been going on for a while, either take it to a roleplay region, or cease it all together. Otherwise, it may be interfered with. When the board is dominated by roleplay, it becomes hard for everyone else to communicate with each-other, thanks to the overabundance of posts completely unrelated to what they are doing.
But other than those things, feel free to roleplay to your heart's content!
5. Hold your Horses
Fundamental Rule: Don’t post on the Regional Message Board three times or more in a row.
Details:
Triple posting, or posting three posts in a row, is considered illegal, as are any other number of posts more than two in a row. All posts after the initial two post will be suppressed. If one hour has passed without another post on the RMB a single third post will be allowed
6. Keep your nose in your own feedbag
Fundamental Rule: Don’t reveal other players’ personal information.
Details:
It is not permitted to post or otherwise share another player's personally-identifying information (i.e. social media accounts, IP addresses, postal addresses, E-mail addresses, telephone numbers, etc.), and neither is it permitted to post or share information that may not be identifying but is nonetheless of a personal nature (i.e. medical history, relationship status, etc.). The only exception is if the player in question has shared that information themselves and does not mind its dissemination (this sharing or statement of permission must be publically viewable).
Making a claim of serious out-of-character misconduct (e.g. bullying, harassment, sexual harassment, etc.) against someone else, without providing evidence to moderation/administration, is considered malicious harassment, and will be dealt with accordingly. This rule applies to the TSP forum and discord as well.
7. Get Off Your High Horse
Fundamental Rule: Trolling, baiting or flaming of others is not allowed under any circumstances.
Details:
Trolling is defined as starting quarrels or upsetting people by posting inflammatory and digressive, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the intent of provoking other nations into displaying emotional responses. Baiting is similar to trolling, and is defined as posting with the aim of angering someone indirectly, directed at a specific person. Flaming is defined as posting insults or other verbal and often personal attacks on other nations. Erudite slams while maintaining a veneer of politeness can also be considered flaming. All three of these are banned under all circumstances.
This is an extension of a simple policy of respect. What may seem like good natured fun to you could be trolling to someone else, and if they tell you to stop, do so.
We can and will warn, suppress, and even ban you, as well as record the incident. In severe cases the NationStates Moderators will be contacted, and puppets will not hide your IP address from them.
8. You Canter Break Site Rules
Fundamental Rule: No matter where you are in NationStates, the rules for the game still apply.
Details:
TSP is a part of NationStates, and as such, you must follow the rules of the game as a whole at all times. Breaking the game rules will land you in trouble with both the regional officers and NationStates site moderation. See the link below for the list of rules and a quick FAQ page for more details on the game rules.
9. Mind Your Dam Manners
Fundamental Rule: Don’t post anything that would not be allowed in a PG-13 movie.
Details:
Excessive swearing, explicit, suggestive, or excessively violent messages, sexual references, and other such things will be suppressed on sight, and the NationStates site moderators can and will be called to get involved in serious cases. Excessive displays of personal affection (e.g. suggestive roleplayed snuggling, nuzzling, kissing, licking and so on) is also considered inappropriate and will be suppressed accordingly.
Mild swearing may be tolerated, mild sexuality may be at the very most hinted, but explicit or excessive versions of either or both will result in moderation intervention, both from the Local Council and potentially from NationStates site moderators. Derogatory terms are disallowed, and all swearing must abide by all other rules, particularly those about respecting others.
10. Straight from the horse’s mouth
Fundamental Rule: Do not edit someone's post in a malicious way or repost offensive content.
Details:
It is illegal to edit what someone else has written when quoting it in order to make it seem like they expressed a view which they didn’t. Quote-editing should be avoided even for comic effect.
When you are responding to someone's post, please quote their post (by pressing the "quote" button), as it makes it less confusing and will alert them to your post.
When quoting an offensive post, delete the content of the post and replace it with "-snip-". Doing so makes the administrators’ jobs much easier.
When quoting long posts, please cut the post down to the particular parts you are responding to, or replace the extraneous material with "-snip-".
11. Crop Your Post
Fundamental Rule: Use spoilers when making or quoting a very long post.
Details:
The [spoiler] tag is your friend. When making or quoting a very long post, or one which not everyone might want to read, please add spoilers, so as to avoid taking up a large amount of the page.
If you are giving a spoiler of a recently released book or film, put it in a spoiler tag, to give people who haven't read/watched it a chance. As a general rule of thumb, give a month for films post-release (as release dates may be different in different areas) and two months for book releases.
12. Rein In Rudeness
Fundamental Rule: The golden rule: treat others how you want to be treated.
Details:
Remember, there are other, real people behind the nations on the RMB. Everyone here is a human being with emotions and the right to be respected.
While dissent with regional officers (LC, Delegate, CRS, and Ministers) is perfectly acceptable, remember that they are people too, and worthy of basic human decency. The regional officers should be respected at all times just as any other member of the region should.
When debating, always remember to attack the argument rather than the person making it. If you find yourself getting heated, try to take a step back. Personal insults, insults to intelligence, etc. will not be tolerated. The only form of debate banned on the RMB is that over a particular suppression. For more information, see the Help Section at the end of this document.
13. Don't Ride on Foals
Fundamental Rule: Single word or similarly short posts are not appreciated on the RMB.
Details:
Single word posts that do not advance conversation are not allowed. If you find yourself wondering if a post is both unsubstantial and too short, it likely is. This rule does not mean you have to post several paragraphs of content every time you want to post. Single sentence posts, single word greetings, and single-word replies quoting other posts are still allowed under this rule.
However, at the discretion of the Local Council, posts deemed to be insubstantial and not contributing to the regional discourse will be suppressed. An excellent way to avoid this is to add thought to your posts.
Thank you for reading, and remember to follow these guidelines!
Now sit back, relax, and enjoy your stay here in TSP!
