      Tragic Aircraft Crash in Chattogram: Squadron Leader Martyred, Another Pilot Hospitalized

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________

    A tragic incident unfolded on Thursday morning as a Bangla Air Force training aircraft crashed into the Karnaphuli River in Chattogram, resulting in the loss of Squadron Leader Asim Jawad's life. The incident occurred when the aircraft, identified as a YAK 130, encountered technical glitches shortly after takeoff from the BAF's Zahurul Haque base around 10:30 am.

    According to reports from Patenga police station's officer in charge Kabirul Islam, the pilots attempted to bail out using parachutes as the aircraft caught fire mid-air. The aircraft crashed into the Karnaphuli River, narrowly avoiding densely populated areas near the National Oil Marketing Company, the Eastern oil refinery, and Chattogram Shah Amanat International Airport.

    Squadron Leader Asim Jawad, displaying remarkable courage and presence of mind, directed efforts to steer the aircraft towards the river, stating, "We will have to reach the river at any cost, lest we die along with thousands more."

    Jawad joined the Bangla Air Force Academy (BAFA) in 2010. He was commissioned as a pilot officer in 2011.
    Tragically, despite their valiant efforts, Squadron Leader Asim Jawad succumbed to his injuries around 12:30 pm while receiving treatment at Banouja Isa Khan Hospital in Patenga. Meanwhile, Wing Commander Sohan, the other pilot, sustained injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at the medical squadron of Zahurul Haque base.

    Chattogram airport's director, Group Captain Taslim Ahmed, confirmed that the crash resulted from technical glitches, leading to the plane catching fire immediately after takeoff and subsequently breaking into pieces upon impact with the Karnaphuli River.

    Efforts are underway by Air Force and Navy personnel to retrieve the aircraft from the river, as affirmed by Chittagong Port's secretary Omar Faruque. Notably, port activities remain unaffected despite ongoing recovery operations.

Roraima crippled by massive blackout, state of emergency declared
Caracas' decision to cut power exports to blame, says Itamaraty

Boa Vista

    The state of Roraima is completely without power after authorities in Caracas halted all power exports to Brazil.

    "The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will no longer supply the Brazilian state of Roraima with its hydroelectric resources," wrote its foreign ministry. "We are morally and politically disinclined from transacting with an enemy which has proven itself to be hostile towards the Venezuelan People and constitutional order."

    The root of the problem lies with Roraima's geographical isolation from the rest of Brazil, which has caused it to remain disconnected from the national power grid. Power is instead imported from the Guri Dam in Venezuela, an arrangement which costs the state $150 million reals each year in exchange for an allowance of 200 megawatts (MW). This has predictably placed Roraima's energy security at the mercy and whim of a foreign power, which, now openly hostile, bodes ill for its residents.

    State authorities have declared a state of emergency in response to the blackouts, authorising the Polícia Militar to temporarily assume control over all gas stations across the state so fuel may be rationed. Classes have been cancelled, and hospitals were instructed to postpone all non-emergency surgeries to ensure patient safety. The international airport at Boa Vista was closed just this morning so the Air Force could airlift power supplies and portable generators until a more permanent solution is found.

    2,000 personnel from the Força Nacional de Segurança Pública, a force of law enforcement officers formed specifically to handle major security crises, are expected to arrive at Roraima over the next two weeks to aid civil defence efforts.

    The Brazilian Restoration and Salvation Council (BRSC) has denounced this act of energy blackmail and vows to retaliate.

    "Any deaths and injuries which come out of this will be on their hands," said President Franco dos Santos, speaking in a press conference. "Our military authorities are meeting with our allies in the Global Security Association 2 to determine next steps as we speak."

WUZURG FRAMADAR GAANJIA VISITS FLOOD-STRIKEN DISASTER AREAS

Iran-e wrote:FREAK RAINS AND FLOODS DEVASTATE SOUTHERN IRANIAN CITIES

OOC: This was a post meant for the freak Iranian Gulf rains and floods that happened earlier this month, but NS nuked itself. Pretend this happened throughout April 14 to 15.

It was a calm, sunny day in southern Iran. The industrious, lively cities of the south were bustling with the flow of trade, noise, and all the other hustles of the big city. Then, suddenly after afternoon prayers, it began to become cloudy. The sky turned to a depressing gray, as if the people were in London. They looked up, surprised at the sight of not having the sun beat down on your neck. No matter, it's probably going to clear up, they thought. And the clouds would indeed clear up - just after they had finished emptying their cargo.

A few light shower drops fell initally. Rain? How very rare for such an arid location. The people, mildly surprised and annoyed, began to rush for the nearest shelter. Their loose, thin clothes would instantly get them wet. It would probably stop after a few minutes. And indeed, the rain would stop - but after a few hours. What once was small, fine drops turns to globules. The calm, pitter-pattering sound of rain began to carress the roof, stiking it lightly with its many wet drops. But it got louder. And louder. And louder. Were the buildings being shot at by some lunatic in the air? No, this was no lunatic. This was nature at its worst.

The heavy and pronounced drops began to damage the roofs. Water started to come into the ceiling and through the concrete. This was not just some light rain. This was something of epic proportions. The water poured in throughout the day. These sewage systems were not equipped to handle such a torrential downpour. Many began to be clogged or simply cease to take in more water. The streets got wet. It became sandal-high. Then ankle-high. Then calf-high, in some places even swimmable. Some old doors burst open, launching a mini-tsunami within homes and shops. The dirty water infested grain, making it uneatable. Schools and businesses closed as people hunkered down for a long, wet night.

As the sun began to rise up, the clouds departed almost as quickly as they had came. The damage to the streets and to homes, the sheer scale of the water, was incomprehensible. Cars were lifted and tossed onto sidewalks, sometimes upside down. Entire tables and chairs of restaurants were upended and found a mile away. Many first floors became soaked ankle-high with water. Wifi antennae were destroyed due to the heavy rain, smashed into several pieces. It was as if a random tsunami washed in and by a miracle, only saved the buildings. The damages and floods could be seen for many miles on end as cities transformed to some of the world's largest swimming pools.

The Governments of the Provinces of Khuzestan, Fars and Kirman have declarated a regionside state of emergency, with the Central Government following suit. Damages are estimated to be around Ð2-3 billion. There have been 12 reported deaths, 8 to asphyxiation from drowning and 4 from resulting mudslides, 758 injured, and 64 in critical condition, being treated in makeshift clinics and nearby hospitals. The Central Government is planning to send out a Ð500 million relief package, including medical supplies, food, water purification packets (OOC: Think like those P&G water purification powders that one goes camping with), freshwater, and other necessities. The number of displaced people numbers roughly 200,000 alongside about 60,000 damaged homes and 80,000 other damaged commercial and industrial buildings.

In addition to the relief package, an estimated Ð100 million is planning to be sent over by atashgahs throughout Iran as part of a large monumental charity effort to aid in flood victims. "Iran is in a state of crisis. The Government is acting with speed and haste to aid the victims of this terrible disaster. Now excuse me while I end this conference, I have to go," said Wuzurg Framadar Gaanjia as she bolted out of the conference room, working day and night to rectify the situation. The clip has gone viral throughout Iran, with many people, especially younger people, positively commenting about Gaanjia's literal swift actions for this tragedy.

As Iran seeks to recover from this disaster, further methods to predict potential future natural disasters, including more up-to-date weather systems and warnings, alongside better flood and disaster-mitigation techniques are underway.

Dates: April 18 - 21, 2024

OOC: Apologies for my chronically late posts

Following the freak floods that encompassed and nearly submerged several southern Iranian cities, Wuzurg Framadar Behdis Gaanjia has arrived in Istakhr to inspect and see the horrific effects of the rains and subsequent floods. What she saw was true horror. Roads were submerged so much that makeshift boats transported goods. Whole cars were uplifted and turned upside down. Windows were shattered from the sheer force of water. Sometimes, old and unstable foundations collapsed whole homes. Sheer destruction and carnage could be seen for many miles. In Hormuz, Deylam, and Bushehr, entire neighborhoods were flooded, with people having to sometimes swim through filth to reach their roof.

"I am truly shocked by the powers of Mother Nature on our land. We Iranians are resilient and adamant that no matter what obstacle fasces us, we will rebound back stronger. Iran's will has been tested numerous times throughout history, and each time she has won. I mourn for the many strong men, women, and children that have lost their lives in this terrible tragedy. Our land shall heal, but those brave souls will live on in garodman (OOC: Avestan name for Heaven/Paradise)."

Madame President, distinguished delegates,

I rise before this esteemed assembly on behalf of the United Kingdom, deeply concerned and unequivocally opposed to the resolution concerning the status of Sakhalin Island as currently proposed. We find the manner in which this resolution has been presented and the content therein not only troubling but also a potential catalyst for further geopolitical instability in a region already fraught with tension.

Firstly, the resolution recalls the principles of self-determination, territorial integrity, and the peaceful resolution of disputes. These principles are indeed pillars upon which our international system rests. However, the application of these principles within this resolution seems to be selectively tailored to advance a narrative that is dangerously one-sided and steeped in irredentism.

It is with profound disappointment that we observe an effort, through this resolution, to retroactively delegitimize treaties that have been recognized and respected for over a century. The Treaty of Portsmouth, signed in 1905, was a product of its time, negotiated with the mediation of then-President Theodore Roosevelt of the United States, which subsequently earned him the Nobel Peace Prize. To cast aspersions on this treaty as being negotiated under duress ignores the historical context of diplomacy and the mechanisms of conflict resolution that were the norm.

Moreover, this resolution paints the annexation of Sakhalin Island by Japan as an act of military aggression, failing to acknowledge the complexities of the geopolitical dynamics of that era. It is imperative that we remember history in its full context and not succumb to retrospective interpretations that serve contemporary political agendas. This resolution glosses over the recent aggressions by the Russians when they openly showcased military aggression by flying a nuclear capable mission into Japanese Air Space. Our resolution to condemn Russia for that action is the effort to establish the truth.

The United Kingdom stands firmly against any form of unilateral actions that seek to alter the status of territories based on selective historical interpretation. We condemn the undercurrents of irredentism that this resolution seemingly endorses—irredentism that can serve as a pretext for unsettling the established international order and provoking territorial disputes.

The focus of this assembly should instead be on encouraging constructive dialogue and negotiation based on mutual respect and contemporary realities, not historical grievances. While we recognize the importance of historical context, it must not be used as a tool to fuel nationalistic fervor or to rewrite boundaries.

We therefore urge the assembly to consider the dangerous precedent that such a resolution could set. The principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity must be upheld without bias and with a forward-looking perspective that promotes peace, stability, and cooperation among all nations.

In conclusion, the United Kingdom calls upon all member states of this assembly to approach the issue of Sakhalin Island not through the lens of past grievances but through a commitment to dialogue, diplomacy, and the unyielding pursuit of international peace and stability. Let us direct our efforts towards fostering understanding and cooperation rather than dividing ourselves with resurrected disputes of a bygone era. If it passes, all those who voted in favor will need to look in the mirror and deal with their reality where they support Russian Imperial ambitions and that they have allowed the UAN to be held hostage by the forces in which this body should be against.

Thank you.

Subject: Reflections on Recent UAN Resolution Vote

Dear Colleagues,

I trust this message finds you well. I write to you today concerning the recent vote on the resolution regarding the status of Sakhalin Island, in which Tamazgha voted in favor. The United Kingdom, as you are aware, expressed a strong objection to this resolution, which we believe sets a concerning precedent for international relations and the interpretation of historical treaties.

Our objection stems from a firm belief in the importance of upholding international law and the norms that govern peaceful resolutions. The resolution, in our view, promotes a revisionist interpretation that could destabilize longstanding international agreements and boundaries.

I must express a specific concern relating to our shared interests in Ceuta. As you know, Ceuta is under British administration but enjoys a unique status with a Joint Council that includes representation from Tamazgha. Our cooperation in this council is a testament to our mutual commitment to dialogue and respect for existing agreements.

The United Kingdom values its relationship with Tamazgha and has always appreciated our constructive dialogue on various international platforms, including our collaborative governance of Ceuta. We believe that our joint efforts in Ceuta could serve as a model for peaceful dispute resolution and cooperation. However, the precedent set by endorsing the Sakhalin resolution could potentially complicate our shared interests and the delicate balance we maintain in Ceuta.

We hope to continue our dialogue on this matter and ensure that our future engagements at the United Assembly of Nations reflect our shared values and commitments to international stability and cooperation.

Thank you for considering these perspectives. I look forward to your response and to continuing our valuable collaboration.

Warm regards,

Emma Cartwright
Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Assembly of Nations

Ladies and Gentlemen of the United Assembly of Nations,

Today, I address you not just as the Foreign Minister of the United Kingdom, but as a concerned member of the international community. Recent developments involving Dniesteria have raised significant concerns regarding the stability and integrity of regional politics and, indeed, the foundational principles of this very assembly.

Dniesteria's recent referendum, resulting in an overwhelming majority in favor of accession to the Russian Federation, compels us to scrutinize the authenticity and impartiality of this political maneuver. Such a decisive outcome under circumstances that remain obscure, and the speed with which this accession is being pursued, raise legitimate concerns about the influence exerted in this process and the true expression of the will of the Dniesterian people.

Furthermore, Dniesteria's subsequent laudation of Russian diplomatic achievements must be viewed through a lens of critical evaluation. While we uphold the value of diplomacy in resolving conflicts and building bridges, we must also recognize when diplomatic efforts are potentially being used to cloak ambitions that may not align with the principles of sovereignty and self-determination as enshrined in the Charter of the United Assembly of Nations.

It is essential to question whether Dniesteria is acting as an autonomous entity or as a vessel of broader imperialistic ambitions by the Russian Federation. This situation poses a direct challenge to the principles of international law and the governance structures that this assembly has vowed to uphold.

The United Kingdom calls upon this assembly to approach this matter with the utmost seriousness. We must consider the implications of allowing the sovereignty of a region to be overshadowed by another state's expansionist policies. If we are to prevent the erosion of the established international order, we must act decisively to ensure that all member states adhere to the norms and regulations that govern our coexistence.

In conclusion, let us reaffirm our commitment to the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity, and self-determination. Let us ensure that every nation, no matter its size or strength, has a right to a free, fair, and independent future. Only by upholding these values can we hope to achieve a world that is truly based on justice and equality for all nations.

Draft Legislation: Proposal to Suspend the Membership of the Democratic Republic of Dniesteria in the United Assembly of Nations (UAN)

Preamble:

WHEREAS, the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Assembly of Nations (UAN) include the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of all member states;

WHEREAS, the recent referendum held in the Democratic Republic of Dniesteria concerning its accession to the Russian Federation raises significant concerns regarding the autonomy and voluntariness of this action;

WHEREAS, the rapid and unilateral nature of this referendum and subsequent actions toward accession may not reflect the true will of the Dniesterian people, thus potentially undermining the democratic processes and principles of self-determination;

WHEREAS, the accession of Dniesteria to the Russian Federation under these circumstances could set a precedent that threatens the stability and integrity of international law and order as upheld by the UAN;

BE IT ENACTED by the General Assembly of the United Assembly of Nations:

  • The membership of the Democratic Republic of Dniesteria in the United Assembly of Nations is hereby suspended, effective immediately.

  • This suspension will remain in effect until a comprehensive investigation is conducted into the circumstances surrounding the recent referendum and its compliance with international law and the principles of the UAN Charter.

  • A special committee shall be formed to oversee this investigation and report its findings to the General Assembly within six months from the date of suspension.

  • Pending the outcome of the investigation and subsequent deliberations by the General Assembly, steps shall be taken to ensure that the rights and welfare of the Dniesterian population are safeguarded.

  • This legislation mandates the Secretary-General of the UAN to implement these actions and provide regular updates to the General Assembly.

To: Emma Cartwright

Hello, thank you for reaching out to us. I must inform you a sizeable amount of individuals in our government did not appreciate mention of complicating the progress we have made with Ceuta. Between the both of us there is already a sizeable movement against any collaboration with the United Kingdom and this message did not help cool matters. Tamazgha is fully on board with cooperation with the United Kingdom and I have calmed tempers in the meantime. But I have to make it clear in a time where Britain needs more allies in the region and not more adversaries any attempt to 'punish' Tamazgha by hindering the progress on Ceuta will backfire very badly. While as things currently stand our vote shall not change on the matter it is not set in stone and we are open to hearing your government out with an offer, forgetting any hard feelings from your last message. I will be in London this weekend, feel free to meet me to discuss the matter, or any other matters involving our countries.

Response to the United Kingdom's UAN proposal to suspend Dniesteria's membership

The recent proposal to suspend Dniesteria's membership of the UAN compels a critical examination of the United Kingdom's historical stance on self-determination and sovereignty. Despite verbal affirmations of these principles, the United Kingdom's imperialist past paints a contrasting picture of exploitation and dominance.

Throughout history, the United Kingdom's imperialist policies have often disregarded the sovereignty and rights of indigenous peoples in the territories it sought to control. The acquisition of colonies was frequently marked by coercion, manipulation, and outright violence, undermining the very principles of territorial integrity and autonomy that the United Kingdom claims to uphold.

Moreover, the timing of the United Kingdom's engagement with decolonization post-World War II raises suspicions. It appears less a genuine commitment to the principles of self-rule and more a strategic retreat in the face of shifting global dynamics. The relinquishment of colonies and holdings seems less about respect for sovereignty and more about an acknowledgment of the untenable nature of imperialist ambitions in the modern era.

In the face of the United Kingdom's attempt to once again undermine the sovereignty of a nation and its people, it would be wise of the United Kingdom to reflect on its own history and the lasting ramifications of its imperialist past. A sincere dedication to self-determination and sovereignty necessitates more than mere rhetoric; it demands a reckoning with past transgressions and a genuine respect for the autonomy of all nations, regardless of size or power.
