Arouca é um município da Área Metropolitana do Porto[1], da Região do Nort hidrográfica do Rio Douro, na Área Metropolitana do Porto[9], na Região do Norte. O concelho de Arouca pertenceu ao Entre Douro e Minho, ao distrito do Douro (província) e ao Douro Litoral[10] e, apesar de estar integrado no distrito de Aveiro (na parte do seu extremo nordeste), possui a identidade endógena dos municípios do distrito do Porto (território estrutural do Douro
município do Grande Porto) situa-se, por estrada, a cerca de 35Km a sudeste da cidade do Porto, enquanto que a vila de Arouca, sede do município, localiza-se a cerca de 55Km, num percurso rodoviário estruturado pela A32 e pela EN 326 (variante).
