In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, broadly diversified black market in Information Technology, Arms Manufacturing, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Woodchip Exports. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 105,584 Stellar Jades, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Gigantic new prisons are springing up all over the nation, statue-sitting has replaced the stake-out as the dullest form of police duty, replacement organs are grown in vats, and exceptionally healthy police officers can sprint after crooks for hours on end. Crime is relatively low. NPC Japan's national animal is the Jellyfish Memosprite, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Fuli the Remembrance.
