Origin of Katz and Besthoff

Born in The Pacific, the nation of Katz and Besthoff had its roots in old New Orleans. The city of New Orleans had many famous retail stores, such as Krauss, Maison Blanche, D. H. Holmes, Schwegmann Brothers Giant Super Market, and Godchaux's, but one which was successfully able to spread far outside the city was K&B Drugs.

In its heyday K&B (also known as Katz and Besthoff) was a New Orleans, Louisiana, based pharmacy and general merchandise store chain. The slogan was: “Between here, and there, there’s bound to be a K&B!”

Gustave Katz partnered with Sydney J. Besthoff at 732 Canal Street, New Orleans in 1905, and continually expanded through the 20th century to become a very popular regional retail chain. The retail chain ceased to exist in 1997 when it was purchased by a rival drugstore group.

However, K&B was more than mere buildings and merchandise. It was the faithful employees, long-serving retirees, loyal customers, wealthy stockholders, and the numerous individuals who had been aided through the years by K&B charitable gifts. In short, K&B was people.

These people did not go away when the retail stores disappeared. A few of them desired to preserve the great heritage of Gustave Katz and Sydney J. Besthoff by founding a new nation in their honor.

Thus it was, that The Incorporated States of Katz and Besthoff was founded in The Pacific region. Despite attempting to continue the philosophy of “the customer is always right” combined with philanthropic activities, The Pacific Regional Message Board was simply too inane for the traditional populace of Katz and Besthoff. According, the nation was moved on 5 December 2020 to the region of Silent to avoid the hubbub of The Pacific. Unfortunately, the activity level in the new region was much too low.

After much debate, the decision was reached to move the nation to a more cosmopolitan region. So, on 8 December 2020, the nation moved for a second time to the famous region of Gypsy Lands.

The decision to move proved to be a wise one, and many happy days were spent enjoying the hospitality of the Great Gypsy Queen, The Matriarchy of Gypsy Lands. Then the nation of Mr Bingle made a post in Gypsy Lands mentioning the region of New Orleans and praising Katz and Besthoff.

As a result of that post, the New Orleans region was inspected. After careful consideration, the decision was reached that New Orleans better fit the national lore. Accordingly, with much misgiving, on 16 December 2022 the nation relocated once again.
