If you're looking to point a finger at someone, point it at Thomas Midgely Jr. Probably the the biggest single source of pollution and health problems for the planet. He didn't cause every problem but he sure caused a lot.

And here we are. First day of autumn and it's going to be another hot one. With the foreseeable temps ahead, it definitely looks like summer has been extended by an entire month. It wouldn't be so bad but the bushfires are doing a lot of damage because of all the rain we had last year - there's a lot of fuel to burn.

It’s a silly idea, and influenced by things from the internet, but wouldn’t it be feasible to dig a canal running down the northern coast of australia to the southern coast? A decently sized one, could bring moisture to the central parts that long ago used to be pretty green if my environmental history is any good. Would be good for the economy too I’d imagine, a big job for people, but what do I know.

Not a silly idea, and one that has already been considered. In fact this: https://www.snowyhydro.com.au/generation/the-snowy-scheme/ is already being built, ostensibly to generate more clean energy but also to begin linking water-systems from north to south.

There are two main problems with trying to construct anything like a canal from north to south: distance and people. It's about 2,400 miles from the top of Oz to the bottom (about 1,700 miles from Cairns to Melbourne), and the cost of such a project, right now, would be prohibitive, though in the future, with advanced building techniques, who knows.

The second problem is that such a construct would cut through aboriginal lands at some point and that means it probably wouldn't be culturally acceptable to a great many people, though an underground pipeline might.

The more you know, thank you for the read I’ve always been interested :))))

And yet another heat wave: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-03-09/weather-autumn-heat-southeast-australia-cyclone-threat-north/103565312

Getting a bit tired of this.

Decided to clear out some cupboards, as it's still too hot to work outside. I think I'm going to need a skip - the amount of junk and things that have been kept 'just in case', is unbelievable. Some of the things are good but we no longer need them/use them, so they're off to the charity shop. The rest of the stuff is in bin-bags, waiting for the rubbish collection.

Reminds me that I have to get some gardening done before the weather gets too chaotic, always so many things to do no matter how much you seem to get done 😮‍💨

Can't believe it's Easter already. It feels like only a couple of weeks ago was Christmas and New Year. This is probably something to do with getting olderer.

I'm always confused and confounded when a month can feel so long and so short at the same time. January felt like a full quarter but March has felt a week at most.
