This morning, Mrs. Tubbius greatly craves chocolate cake.

Of course, the very sleepy Tubbius the Fat does not begrudge Her Maternity this demand.

Despite falling many times faster than most Cossack fighters could dive, the ride aboard the Leonist F77 was smooth as it descended from the atmosphere in a steep descent. Taras Fomenko checked his straps agitatedly even though they were the safest ones he had ever had; but if they were Cossack-made, they would have had an ever-present chance to fail. But he was still more nervous by returning to his homeland. It had been just over a year since the First Battle of the Cossack Strait, where he had been fished out of the water from the wreckage of the corvette збитний and brought back to holding facilities in Leonism. There, after he had naturalized, he was swept away by the cleanliness of the air, the taste of the food, and the overall contentment he found in their company-- every idealism of a Cossack back in his homeland was a reality in Leonism.

But even though he was but a sailor, Leonism needed ex-Cossacks with military experience and he knew the lay of the land.

A flashing indicator near the rear of the craft let him know they were close to drop off-- Fomenko forcibly sucked in air through his nose and exhaled through his mouth and cast a glance to those around him. There were a few other Cossacks around him in the hold of the F77-- from what he knew, also part of the navy though certainly not from any vessel he had served on. Some of them had managed to doze off while waiting for their drop point, while others sat in a state of near-awakeness, refusing to sleep.

The roar of the winds grew louder and louder until the indicator made a final flash and changed color before the craft rocked in a mighty thump and the wind stopped. Taras surged forward, quickly undoing his harness and slinging his backpack over his shoulder, and dashing down the lowering ramp. Within moments, the ramp closed behind him and the craft once again made off, leaving him in what looked to be an old sawmill.

The sky was still dark, and the chilly air was filled with the sounds of crickets from the darkness of the nearby treeline, who had prematurely hatched without anticipating the dying throes of the Cossack winter that came in unseasonal frosts. The stars shone out here, which provided Taras with much more visibility than he had hoped for.

Taking a moment to account for his surroundings, he fastened his bag around his shoulders and began to make his way across the field of stumps. He had been deployed somewhere east of St. Timofeyevich; he should be able to link up with one of the major roads and head towards civilization.

In his bag, which although unusually plain was otherwise quite inconspicuous, Fomenko carried various survival implements and supplies; as well as a pair of glare-free binoculars, a small radio signal direction-finding and COMINT device, a long-distance mobile phone, and a single P95 handgun complete with two magazines and a silencer.

He was to gather intelligence of one of the sides in the civil war, making observations and intercepting communications before reporting back to his handlers on what he had found-- his mission was strictly surveillance, as he had been instructed time and time again.

Finding the road he was looking for, he began his travels. As Taras progressed and the night began to turn away, he began to hear the whispers of the thunders of battle far over the horizon. He shuddered-- it was not the homecoming he had expected.

"Mhm, mmph." The man sitting on the jeep's trunk smacked his lips, before wrapping up what was left of the fast food and putting it in a paper bag on the floor, an impromptu trash can. "You sure they're not using a different meat over here? It's much richer than the ones back home."
"Anders, it's a Tubby Burger. They're the same literally everywhere. You're imagining things."
Anders, the one in the back, continued to speak as he still chewed, grease dripping from his lips. "Are you sure? I mean, you know the milkshake thing back home? The 'Mountain Spring'? They don't have that here."
The one in the driver's seat, with spiked, fingerless gloves leaned back to look towards Anders. "Yeah, they do. Except Here it's called a "Tsar Shake,' and it's dyed red instead of pale blue. They're the exact same thing."
"You sure about that Iaspar? We've been here ten months already and everything feels different."
Iasper leaned back into his seat and put his hands back onto the wheel. "I'm sure," he grumbled.
The one in the passenger seat to the right of the driver broke the silence. He whispered in Cianlandian, whereas the others spoke their native tongue suspiciously loudly. "When was the last one supposed to drop in again?"
Iaspar looked at his watch. "Dritt", he swore, "Last two came in at 9pm and 3 in the morning. Closest one was supposed to walk to Timofeyevich."
"But that's 50 kilometers away!" said the one in the passenger seat.
"Thank you Vin, for stating the obvious", responded Anders.
"If he didn't make it to the safehouse, he should still be on the roadside. He'll have been walking for 7 hours!" exclaimed Iaspar, his normally calm demeaner breaking for a moment.
"We can still grab him and get him a ride if we hurry."
"Or he simply walks into town, goes to the safehouse, and sits on his ass until we show up and apologize for slacking. But he'd never expect that from us, now would he?" Anders queried with great sarcasm.
Iaspar slammed the accelerator, the force almost knocking Anders off before he had time to scramble to his seat.

The jeep sped down the street, barreling towards the highway on ramp towards the direction of St. Timoyevich.

No, not at all. Factbooks can never have too much effort.

Nah, if anything we put to little effort into factbooks. I do wonder how he finds so much time to go into such detail with them tho.

Also in other news I just made a down payment on a house today, and one for a very reasonable price I might add. So hooray for me!

I say there are several people with much better factbooks! Mine lack in illustration, formatting could be better and several are unfinished or outdated.

I wouldn't think of myself as an outstanding example on how to do factbooks.

Custadia has some nice illustrations in a factbook about their ships, while our comparable one is all text. New Rogernomics has a beautiful main factbook im Wikipedia style.

Personally I prefer my small arms one, since I drew those pictures myself. My factbooks aren't all that, though.

How do I get more serious and in depth in nation states? Right now I am just casually playing it every now and then.

Largely depends on what you want to get out of NationStates. The game itself is rather simple, so for many people long-term motivation comes from getting more involved "off-site", meaning being active in the forums or on Discord, getting involved in regional politics, raiding etc.

All residents of Lazarus are heavily encouraged to apply for citizenship ("shareholdership") to take part in the region's full spectrum of activities. The links can be found on our regional site.

How dare the CDU head staff ignore the will of the base for the third time and thus causing a drop in in approval ratings for the entire party. (they decided to go with Armin Laschet, after which the approval rating of the Union dropped down to 27%).
Several party district arms (i don't know the proper term in English) have declared that they are going to leave the party and/or simply refuse to campaign for the Union if Armin Laschet really becomes our candidate. It is theorised that we would loose about 100 seats in Parliament. That is what the leaders of the CDU deserve for spitting in our faces and the face of democracy.
If Armin Laschet stays our candidate the government is basically guaranteed to be a coalition between Social Democrats, the Greens and Socialists (Die Linke, basically a remnant of the former GDR government).
