Just for the sake of argument but why does abolishing prisons increase crime rates again? It looks logical at first but it doesn't mean that criminals get away without any sort of aftermath.

Rehabilitation doesn't always work so those who would then normally get locked up stay on the streets and then re-offend.

Such embassies must either be closed after serving the purpose for which they were created, or else must be permanently confirmed by a regular creation vote as detailed in 6.7."

That works too. I was actually imagining that "may call for the creation" meant "may initiate a poll", not "may build embassies", since elsewhere in the section it uses that wording to refer to the right of any Forestian to request an embassy poll. In the amendment I posted, we'd still have to have a regular vote on the embassy before opening it.

I'll change out the Constitution, but I don't know if I have the time to keep it updated otherwise. If someone else wants to take on that role, please telegram me.

A lot of the Forest specific things in there are linked to from other areas anyway (quite a few of the ones to change are already in Kawastyselir's statistics despatch).

It's just the general roleplay and gameplay ones that aren't, so it could maybe just be scaled back to those and then is unlikely to need updating all the time.

In the ideal world in my head prisons are primarily institutions of rehabilitation... so abolishing prisons would mean that criminals don't get the mental health assistance/support to get out of the poverty cycle/etc that stops them reoffending.

If prisons were really like that then abolishing them would be a big mistake, but unfortunately the world in my head isn't the real world. Most prisons nowadays just lock people away from society which also lowers crime rates (as Drasnia says) but I'm an idealist so I think there's a wrong way to go about lowering crime rates.

I also think killing people is "a wrong way to go about lowering crime rates", but that's a different debate.

The Ransium is dead, long live the new Ransium Ruinenlust!

I know I'm hardly active on here anymore, but I'm so proud of how far you've come Ruinenlust, and I am so happy for you Ransium (you had a kid? Congrats!). Hope all of you are staying safe.

Love,
Palos

Do we get to bully new Ransium too? Or was that only for original Ransium?

Lousykitty wrote:Do we get to bully new Ransium too? Or was that only for original Ransium?

Ruinenlust is not and will not be Ransium. However, feel free to bully me! ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Bit late, but i’ve been on holiday so couldn’t look an ns.
Well done to Ruinenlust on their new position, and thank you to Ransium for your years of service to Forest!

~ Official Government Post ~

Dear Friends,

I am very pleased to announce that our poll for the creation of embassies with the New West Indies has passed by a landslide 25-2 in favor. As such, I have officially requested embassies with them, and I have been in communication with their Foreign Minister already. It seems that Turbeaux has already moved a live-in ambassador to the region, so that is great!

Should they accept out invitation, please head over to say hello once the embassy construction has finished! :-)

Moving on, I haven't forgotten about Ownzone's proposal from a few days ago, which was seconded by Turbeaux.

Ownzone wrote:In line with article 6.6 of our constitution I would like to propose closing our embassy with Futaba Aoi. I know we have been over this before and our ties with this region are over 8 years old and longstanding allies should not be forgotten but this region no longer has the amount of activity to validate an embassy. The region has only 3 nations left....none of them particularly active. The founder Steenia has ceased to exist on multiple occasions. It has been refounded but remains "inactive" in the Lazarus region. From the last 10 posts on their RMB, 8 are left by citizens from Forest. The first of those going almost 3 years back. Keeping a region with this low level of activity for several years amongst our embassies makes it look a bit strange when we turn down younger but more active regions.

Turbeaux wrote:I second that. However, I believe that some older nations than I have reasons to keep it open.
Additionally, I would like to propose closure of our embassy with Evergreen Conifer regardless of what happens with the NWI vote as I have been told by ex-government officials that it is a dead region.

This almost feels like a stunt from a long-running sitcom. Closing embassies is not a light matter, which is why I strongly encourage everyone to look at the region, now: Futaba Aoi. Does it seem alive? Does it seem worth keeping? Is it better to perhaps get out the pruning shears? It might also be a good idea to look at the region's history: page=region_history/region=futaba_aoi

I am more than happy to have a commemoration of the embassy, in light of the fact that it has existed on the books for over eight years (despite that meaning very little for the past few of those years).

We've been batting the idea around of closing this embassy for a loooong time, but here we are, at long last.

Also, somewhat parenthetically, but it's still "official" business in a way: thank you again to everyone who has expressed words of encouragement and confidence in the WA delegacy transition. It means a great deal to me. My hope is that we can have discussions about votes, and that we can somewhat boost engagement with the process. [Also] also, thank you to everyone who has endorsed me up to this point! If you are in the WA and have not yet done so, please consider amplifying our regional impact with your endorsement. :-)

When Futaba Aoi and Evergreen Conifer are out of the way, can I also propose closing The Federation of Anarchist Communes aswell, since they say Region Closed in their WFE.

Post self-deleted by Entitize.

I spent way too long writing that message that Mozworld proposed it first lol.

(also btw, the Wildlife Warden kinda ceased to exist 17 days ago idk if this has been brought to y'alls attention or if you know which in that case im sorry i wasted your time)

Mozworld wrote:When Futaba Aoi and Evergreen Conifer are out of the way, can I also propose closing The Federation of Anarchist Communes aswell, since they say Region Closed in their WFE.

Absolutely, we can get The Federation of Anarchist Communes to a vote as well, once Futaba Aoi is done and we have voted on Evergreen Conifer. And yeah, they literally are like: "it was fun guys; we're done here, bye-bye!"

Entitize wrote:I spent way too long writing that message that Mozworld proposed it first lol.

I take it that you would "second" that motion? :-)

Anyone else for anything else? We're on a roll here, lol. "August Cleaning," so to speak!

Singapore? They are founderless and delegateless. They look pretty inactive. The region's pop has slowly been declining since 2017.

I second this, though I think maybe we should replace it with a like-minded region, such as Anarchy, as they are both anarcho-socialist.

Maybe whenever we close an “ideological region” embassy, we replace them with another region of the same ideology to honor them?

I can think of one nation here who might object to a closure with Singapore ;)

I’m relatively new here (despite being well integrated I think), so who are you referring to?

Middle Barael wrote:I’m relatively new here (despite being well integrated I think), so who are you referring to?

Same here. Idk who you are referring (Northern Wood).

Here's my list of regions to consider. Most of them are because they are small and inactive. Any further reasoning will be explained in (parentheses):

Futaba Aoi
Evergreen Conifer
The Federation of Anarchist Communes
Singapore
Eladen (Undivulged Principles very occasionally posts on our RMB but the region otherwise looks pretty dead. I think there might be some historical reasons for keeping this one?)
A Liberal Haven
Hippy Haven (While the RMB looks semi-active, a lot of the posts are just ambassadors reposting their own regions' stuff)

Middle Barael wrote:I’m relatively new here (despite being well integrated I think), so who are you referring to?

Valentine Z, with whichever nation they keep here now, I forgot which one. I believe that used to be their home region, and still keep a nation there which is listed as their RO.

Alcantaria's surname is minimalism, so getting rid of things that no longer work or that no longer contribute meaningfully will always be welcome :)
