Does your nation have a colonial history, either as the colonizer or the colony? How has this impacted your nation's history?

In my nation's alternate timeline, the British Isles were conquered by The Empire of Benelux in 1590. Emhurst was a heavily Dutch-influenced province and was the first province to become independent. All of the Regions in the British Isles joined together to create The Confederacy of Emhurst. Basically, The British Isles were heavily Dutch-influenced.
