DUBAI COMPANY SIGNS MoU TO BUILD 200GW SOLAR POWER

Dubai | 7 April: The Mashriq Caliphate has planned to wean its economy off oil. In the biggest sign of what the future of the Gulf state would look like, His Excellency Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques (خادم الحرمين الشريفين) Commander of the Faithful (أمير المؤمنين‎) Emir of Hejaz Khalifa Muhammad bin Omar Aladeen, has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dubai based multinational company POLO Inc. to build 200 GW of solar power by 2030 (in rp about 520 days) at a cost of $200 billion.

These are eye-popping numbers. If built, that solar-power plant will be about 200 times the size of the biggest solar plant operating today. It would more than double the nation’s capacity to produce electricity, from about 100 GW today.

With current technology, solar panels capable of generating 200 GW would likely cover 5,000 sq km—an area larger than the the world’s largest cities.
And, yet, these are not unrealistic figures. Based on data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF), the global solar industry produced about 100 GW worth of solar panels last year, and production capacity is ramping up quickly.

It is often found that such MoUs never actually come to fruition. However, POLO Inc. has promised to work towards the project immediately, with locations for the plants yet to be decided. It is interesting to note that 30% of POLO shares are held by members of the Mashriq Royal families, and that it has been the fastest growing company in The Caliphate, since its establishment in the year 2004 as a startup by Entrepreneur Abdullah bin Muhammad Al Thani, second cousin of the current Emir of Qatar.

Novel HIV vaccine approach shows promise in “landmark” first-in-human trial

A novel vaccine approach for the prevention of HIV has shown promise in Phase I trials, reported IAVI and Scripps Research. According to the organisations, the vaccine successfully stimulated the production of the rare immune cells needed to generate antibodies against HIV in 97 percent of participants.

The vaccine is being developed to act as an immune primer, to trigger the activation of naïve B cells via a process called germline-targeting, as the first stage in a multi-step vaccine regimen to elicit the production of many different types of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs). Stimulating the production of bnAbs has been pursued as a holy grail in HIV for decades. It is hoped that these specialised blood proteins could attach to HIV surface proteins called spikes, which allow the virus to enter human cells, and disable them via a difficult-to-access regions that does not vary much from strain to strain. The vaccine, being done with help from the Southern California Medical School, is being developed to act as an immune primer, to trigger the activation of naïve B cells via a process called germline-targeting, as the first stage in a multi-step vaccine regimen to elicit the production of many different types of broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs). Stimulating the production of bnAbs has been pursued as a holy grail in HIV for decades. It is hoped that these specialised blood proteins could attach to HIV surface proteins called spikes, which allow the virus to enter human cells, and disable them via a difficult-to-access regions that does not vary much from strain to strain.

“We and others postulated many years ago that in order to induce bnAbs, you must start the process by triggering the right B cells – cells that have special properties giving them potential to develop into bnAb-secreting cells,” explained Dr William Schief, a professor and immunologist at Scripps Research and executive director of vaccine design at IAVI’s Neutralizing Antibody Center, whose laboratory developed the vaccine. “In this trial, the targeted cells were only about one in a million of all naïve B cells. To get the right antibody response, we first need to prime the right B cells. The data from this trial affirms the ability of the vaccine immunogen to do this.”

Schief intends to present the results at the International AIDS Society HIV Research for Prevention (HIVR4P) when it convenes some time next month or earlier.

In the Phase I IAVI G001trial, 48 healthy adult volunteers were enrolled to receive either a placebo or two doses of the vaccine compound, eOD-GT8 60mer, along with an adjuvant developed by the GlaxoSmithKline.

One of the lead investigators on the trial, Dr Julie McElrath, senior vice president and director of Fred Hutch’s Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division, said the trial was “a landmark study in the HIV vaccine field,” adding that they had demonstrated “success in the first step of a pathway to induce broad neutralising antibodies against HIV-1.”

HIV affects more than 38 million people globally and is among the most difficult viruses to target with a vaccine, in large part because of its unusually fast mutation rate which allows it to constantly evolve and evade the immune system.

Dr Schief commented: “This study demonstrates proof of principle for a new vaccine concept for HIV, a concept that could be applied to other pathogens as well. With our many collaborators on the study team, we showed that vaccines can be designed to stimulate rare immune cells with specific properties and this targeted stimulation can be very efficient in humans. We believe this approach will be key to making an HIV vaccine and possibly important for making vaccines against other pathogens.”

The company’s said this study sets the stage for additional clinical trials that will seek to refine and extend the approach, with the long-term goal of creating a safe and effective HIV vaccine. As a next step, the collaborators are partnering with the biotechnology company Moderna to develop and test an mRNA-based vaccine that harnesses the approach to produce the same beneficial immune cells. According to the team, using mRNA technology could significantly accelerate the pace of HIV vaccine development and other possible roads of research.

This is a tremendous achievement for vaccine science as a whole,” said Dr Dennis Burton, professor and chair of the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at Scripps Research, scientific director of the IAVI Neutralizing Antibody Center and director of the NIH Consortium for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Development. “This clinical trial has shown that we can drive immune responses in predictable ways to make new and better vaccines, and not just for HIV. We believe this type of vaccine engineering can be applied more broadly, bringing about a new day in vaccinology.”

The scientists believe the same approach could also be applied to vaccines for other challenging pathogens such as influenza, dengue, Zika, hepatitis C and malaria. If such research into vaccines for those diseases bears fruit, large parts of the world will be rid of such diseases once and for all.

The research is open to the international community as are all other ongoing research efforts being conducted by the Union as the Union believes these vaccines should be free and for the betterment of all Humanity, regardless of political stances or creed.

Department of Health to collaborate with Imperial Eagle on HIV vaccines

KUM CITY — Following the United States' Phase 1 HIV vaccine trials, the Department of Health has announced its participation in this project by dispatching 50 researchers from CAIST to assist in research efforts.

The DoH will provide CAIST, IAVI, Scripps Research, and the Southern California Medical School a medical research grant valued at $50 million USD each, and has further earmarked $100 million USD to help subsidise the distribution of the vaccine to the Asian and African continents. If all goes well, and pending approval from IAVI, CAIST will host multiple Phase 2 trials on the FEUSSR, owing to its large population, with 8 concurrent trials involving 100 HIV patients in hospitals across the country. It also plans to host a Phase 3 trial involving the inoculation of 50,000 HIV patients mostly located in the Chosun SSR, with the data to be provided on an open, transparent platform for various researchers to access.

The DoH has reaffirmed its commitment to improving public health and sanitation not just across the FEUSSR, but across the world as well. It maintains that vaccines are a global good that should be shared by all as a testament to humanity's collective ingenuity.

The Southern California Medical School and IAVI welcome these researchers and are more than willing to share notes, data and other such items in this grand undertaking with the Chinese counterparts. We hope that once it reaches Phase 3 trials, the data gained will bring about a new era in medical advancements and the end of the HIV/AIDS scrouge.

Caliph passes royal decree to bring changes to regional administration and local titles

Riyadh | 8 April: After much discussion and deliberation among the Holy Council of Emirs for the past four years, His Excellency The Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques (خادم الحرمين الشريفين) Commander of the Faithful (أمير المؤمنين‎) Emir of Hejaz Khalifa Muhammad bin Omar Aladeen has passed a royal decree to bring changes to regional administration as well as aristocratic titles in use by the royal family.

Following this decree, regional borders of emirates, sheikhdoms and provinces will be redrawn to suit proper administration of the regions of the Mashriq Caliphate, as well as the change of Royal titles among the members of the Royal families as well as leaders across the Caliphate.
The changes brought about by the royal decree are as follows-

1. The territories of Yemen, Muscat (North Oman), Hejaz, Najd, Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar, Ha'il Shammar will be recognised as Sultanates, and will be administrated by a Sultan(formerly known as Emirs)

2. The territories of Asir, Al-Ahsa, South Oman, Sharjah, Umm al-Qaiwain, Fujairah, Ajman, Ra's al-Khaimah will be now recognised as Emirates instead of Sheikhdoms, and their leaders will style themselves as Emir if from Sunni royal families, Imam if from Shia Royal families and Sheikh if democratically elected. All of these territories will be under their respective Sultanates, only having slightly more autonomy. (Except the states east of Dubai)

3. Each member of the royal families, male and female, will be accorded the title amir ("prince") or amira ("princess"), respectively.

The changes are to be instituted in the next 4 weeks.

Chengdu - 8 APR An incomplete gold mask unearthed by archaeologists at the legendary Sanxingdui ruins has attracted enormous interest from academics and the public.
In late March, archaeologists announced that they had made important discoveries at the ruins in Sichuan province, which will shed light on the unified and diverse origin of Chinese civilization.
The Ministry of Culture reports that six new sacrificial pits have been found and more than 500 artifacts dating back to around 3,000 years have been unearthed.
In one of the new pits, experts found the 286-gram gold mask, the largest to date found at this site.
"We found the mask on January 5 in pit 5," said one of the archaeologists involved in the excavation work. "At first we only saw part of it and it only caught our attention when more and more gold emerged."
The next challenge was to unearth the mask safely and methodically. SOLAR POWER IN THE CALIPHATE (PART II)

Riyadh | 8 April: Dubai based POLO Inc. as well as the government of the Mashriq Caliphate signed a contract with Chinese photovoltaics company Daqo New Energy, as well multiple Far Eastern companies including Hanergy, ET Solar, JA Solar, Jinko Solar, Yingli, and Zonergy at Kum City in FEUSSR earlier today for the purchase as well as production of solar panels, racking equipment, a solar inverter, and solar monitoring equipment for the 200 billion USD Solar Energy project by the Mashriq Caliphate, which came as part of the MoU between the Khalifa and POLO Inc.

The solar power plants for Phase-I will be established in the towns of Al Hofuf, Taif and Al Wadiah, each taking up an area of approximately 12,000 acres (4050 ha), and will be among the largest solar parks in the world.

In addition to this, privately owned HAALA Energy, will be setting up solar panels in major institutes and other office buildings in Riyadh, including the Riyadh Railway Station, which is to be among the first fully solar powered railway stations in the Caliphate.

Solar-energy prices have fallen by about 80 percent in the past few years, due to a rapid increase in the number of Chinese and Far Eastern factories cranking out inexpensive solar panels, more-efficient solar technology, and mounting interest by large investors, many of The Mashriq Caliphate, in bankrolling solar projects.
Some of The Caliphate’s most prominent industrial firms, as well as international electricity producers and solar companies big and small, have lined up to profit from what they see as a major new market.
