The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 6.189 billion AnnaKians are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The enormous, corrupt, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Industry, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Bedrock. The average income tax rate is 86.7%, and even higher for the wealthy.

Average income is an impressive 126,493 Clams, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.0 times as much as the poorest.

Lovesick people are told 'it's not them, it's you', bungee jumpers rarely go splat, Bedrock River is now popularly called "Dead Fish Run", and college students make ends meet by selling their kidneys. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. AnnaK's national animal is the Snorkasaurus, which is also the nation's favorite main course, and its national religion is Paganism.
