The Democratic Republic of Sayre is a large, genial nation, renowned for its complete lack of prisons, suspicion of poets, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate population of 125 million Sayreans are fiercely patriotic and enjoy great social equality; they tend to view other, more capitalist countries as somewhat immoral and corrupt.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Welfare. The average income tax rate is 34.7%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The sizeable but underdeveloped Sayrean economy, worth 5.10 trillion Sayrian Sayrees a year, is dominated by the Trout Farming industry, with significant contributions from Automobile Manufacturing, Tourism, and Information Technology. State-owned companies are common. Average income is 40,792 Sayrian Sayrees, and distributed extremely evenly, with little difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

The studies of art and philosophy are banned, the police have been known to wiretap confessional boxes, the government mails weekly updates on the new anti-junk mail laws to every citizen, and agreeing to appear on TV is often the best way to access social care. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Sayre's national animal is the Gorilla, which is also the nation's favorite main course.

Sayre is ranked 214,559^th in the world and 24^th in Kryndel for Highest Drug Use, scoring 85.13 on the Pineapple Fondness Rating.
