The cynical population of 7.407 billion Deepubans are ruled with an iron fist by the dictatorship government, which ensures that no-one outside the party gets too rich. In their personal lives, however, citizens are relatively unoppressed; it remains to be seen whether this is because the government genuinely cares about its people, or if it hasn't gotten around to stamping out civil rights yet.

The relatively small, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Law & Order, Defense, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Uba. The average income tax rate is 16.7%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The large but underdeveloped Deepuban economy, worth 161 trillion plortches a year, is led by the Furniture Restoration industry, with major contributions from Soda Sales, Trout Farming, and Basket Weaving. Black market activity is notable. State-owned companies are common. Crime is well under control, thanks to a well-funded police force. Deepuba's national animal is the worm and its national religion is Qartism.
