Royal Palace, Mo'ikor

Regent Te Moruon and Minister of Defense Pala Mani find the King while he and his wife are sitting in one of the palace's many beautiful gardens. The trees are full of leaves and butterflies find sustenance in the flowering bushes. Artificial waterways populated by vibrant fishes flow with clear water. King Wasowak I and Queen Ruana are accompanied by their personal servants. The Regent and the Minister are dressed solemnly. The Regent wears the very same mourning robes he wore when he delivered a eulogy for Kanewarman VII. The Minister, similarly, wears predominantly black, though with a vibrant purple tunic.

"Your Majesty," the Regent begins, "If I may, you and Her Majesty's presence is required at the Great Plaza."

"What for?"

"Opu Karani requests you and your wife's presence at a ritual."

The King and Queen stand up and lead the way to the plaza. Their servants follow closely behind. Eventually, the two are joined by additional eunuchs who carry them on a palanquin. The walk through the vast palace is long. When they eventually reach the plaza, King Wasowak I finds that, in addition to Minister Opu Karani, congregated too are all of his concubines, other ministers, bureaucrats, eunuchs, servants, and most other personnel in an unorganized, chattering bunch.

"Nei mo'i!" Pala Mani yells out. The gates of the palace are soon pried open. The crowd goes silent. A large group of republican soldiers soon pour in and surround the silenced bunch.

"What is this?" The King demands Te Moruon.

"I'm sorry, Your Majesty, it was either this or your head," he replies.

A general of the Keyrahti Republic emerges from the crowd and approaches King Wasowak I. He shows none of the ritual respect demanded for the monarch. He does not even bow his head slightly. Indeed, for a commoner like him and his soldiers to enter without permission is punishable by instant death.

"The terms of surrender of the Kingdom of Keyraht have been received and accepted. Part of these conditions, citizen Wasowak, is the removal of this royalist enclave," the General declares before handing the King a piece of paper.

"Citizen Marubua Wasowak, his family, and all essential servants," the King reads aloud to his courtiers, "As per the conditions of the surrender, have been given one hour to vacate the Royal Palace. They will be escorted to the Winter Palace where they will be held as prisoners of the Keyrahti Republic until further notice. Clerical personnel are permitted to remain and conduct the daily religious affairs of the Palace's temples and shrines."

The King looks down. His wife, the Queen, starts to shed tears. Wasowak raises his head and begins barking orders at servants to assist him in packing his belongings. The crowd quickly dissipates. Soldiers closely follow the courtiers and royals around as they frantically pack.

About 45 minutes later, the crowd is one again gathered at the gate. Soldiers push it open and the King and Queen lead the march forwards. Republican soldiers line the road outside of the palace. Hundreds of carriages are filled with crates of palace treasures and worried courtiers. Before entering his carriage, the King looks back. He sees soldiers cheer as the flag of the Keyrahti Republic is raised over the Royal Palace.

The King has been deposed. His court negotiated his own surrender without his knowledge. Only later does he learn that inside the Palace, as part of the terms of the agreement between the Republicans and Royalists, Provisional President "Papa" Kana is administering the oath of office to Pala Mani, now President Pala Mani.

Payesian newspapers are filled with reports of the success of the Keyrahti revolution in bringing about a new republican order in the country, immediately diplomats are sent to negotiate wide range of favourable treaties with the new government including a hopeful alliance to oppose the existing conservative world order. Rituals are also celebrated in Pays D'Espoir over the newfound state of peace, as the war against Keyraht was solely, according to the Triumvirate, a war against the person of the king. Still the diplomats are sent to ensure that peace is formally declared between the two states and are sent with a limited degree of gun boats, both to defend the diplomats and if Keyraht is willing to aid in expelling the Frankian mission from the country.

The diplomats are welcomed into the country by the republic. The Payesian delegation, however, is not given permission to attack the Frankian mission, but to stay on alert in the event of such a necessity.

Return
Some Village in Rural Keyraht

Citizen Te Moruon, now relieved of all his duties, no longer Regent of the Kingdom of Keyraht, returns to his family's farm. In his time serving Kanewarman VII and Wasowak I, his father has passed away and his siblings, all too young to remember when he was sent to the Royal Palace, are well into their middle ages. The matriarch of the family, Te Moruon's mother, walks with a cane. Citizen Moruon's horse slowly clops towards the homestead. His mother emerges from the house and shouts his name. The former regent descends his steed, hitches his horse, and embraces his mother, whom he has not seen for the majority of his lifetime.

"Mother! How are my brothers and sisters?" Moruon asks.

"I have told them all about you, my son," his mother replies.

A number of Moruon's relatives, teenagers and children, come to investigate what is happening. Several of them murmur about who this man could be.

"Hello," Te Moruon awkwardly explain to them, "I am your uncle. I used to serve the King. I was his regent."

One of Te Moruon's brothers soon emerges, dirty from labor-intensive farm work. The second-eldest of the bunch, Moruon recognizes him.

"Sinn, I am your brother. Do you remember my face?" He asks.

"No," Sinn timidly replies while shaking his head. "You talk fancy," he adds, noticing his elder brother's distinct court accent.

The former regent says hello to the rest of his relatives. He presents to his mother his old robes as a royal courtier, as well as a collection of other memorabilia that used to belong to him in the Royal Palace. In return, his mother gives him the organs that his father severed from him so he may be buried as a man. At a young age, Te Moruon's family desperately castrated him so he may serve Kanewarman VII and lift the family from poverty.

A Fast-Forward
Royal Palace, Mo'ikor

A crowd of tourists follow the tour guide into the throne room of the Royal Palace Museum. The guide lifts her megaphone up to her mouth.

"This is the throne room. Wasowak ascended here as the last King of Keyraht. He reigned for seven months before his deposition. He died of natural causes at the age of 87. His reign is often remembered as a failure. On the left side of the throne is the Shrine of Kanewarman VII, as was customary for Keyrahti kings to venerate their predecessor."

The tourists, coming from a wide array of countries, look around the room. Clicks and flashes of cameras fill the room, as do the murmurs of the tourists. The tour guide gets their attention and leads them to another building in the palace.

"This was the office of the Chief Advisor and later Regent of Keyraht, Te Moruon. During the later months of the reign of King Kanewarman VII, he grew in power in the royal court. During the reign of Wasowak, he ran the country. He, along with other ministers, negotiated the abdication of the King."

Once again, the tourists look around at the numerous artifacts on display in the office. They go across the hall to another room.

"This room was the office of the Minister of Defense. On the wall over there," the tour guide says, pointing, "You can see Wasowak's declaration of war against Pays dEspoir. His failed attempt at naval warfare is often credited as the final blow to the Keyrahti monarchy. Pala Mani, the last Minister of Defense, took the oath of office here. He was Keyraht's second president. He was overthrown after just two years."

The tour guide leads the tourists out of the building and to one of the palace's many magnificent temples.

"This is the Temple of One Million Years. While this palace was a temple, this facility serves as its religious center. The last high priest of the temple, Opu Karani, was permitted to continue operations for eight years following the fall of the monarchy. After the priests were expelled, the palace was completely abandoned for thirty years before its renovation and designation as a museum."
