Fun fact 2025 The biggest solar storm is going to hit which has a potential to destroy our power grids NASA scientists have said that there will be a 0.12 Percent chance of it hitting us but I think it’s now uhh I forgot Also do not fear solar storms can not kill you I hope the earth’s magnetic fields can withstand the solar storm
And also Venus’s magnetic fields are super weak so best of luck Venus and best of luck mercury. Also sadly Comet Swan is never coming back again And also Apophis is going to have a 1 in 20,000 chance of hitting us in 2029 if it does it will have a catastrophic impact on the earth and could also cause a mass extinction event

We are 1 AU Away from the sun *Astronomical Unit*

Also fun fact Jupiters volume is 1301 x that of the earths and saturns is 763.59 x that of the earths correct me if I am wrong

Kindly do not post sh*t astronomy on the board - TWP’s resident astronomer (me) tends to get annoyed with poor research.

You being an actual astronomer is actually pretty neat.

Only an amateur, but I do know my stuff.

Really? So we know a year in advance that we’re going to get a Carrington level event. Weird, we didn’t know about this week’s storms until the coronal mass ejections left the Sun.

Sith Eternal Final Order wrote: NASA scientists have said that there will be a 0.12 Percent chance of it hitting us but I think it’s now uhh I forgot Also do not fear solar storms can not kill you

Well if you’re on life support and the power fails or you’re standing next to a transformer when it blows, then yes solar storms can kill you.

The Earth’s magnetic field is pretty robust and while solar storms have some effect on Mercury and Venus they’re not going to suddenly disintegrate.

Sith Eternal Final Order wrote: Also sadly Comet Swan is never coming back again

Never arrived - it fell apart before it reached perihelion.

Sith Eternal Final Order wrote: And also Apophis is going to have a 1 in 20,000 chance of hitting us in 2029 if it does it will have a catastrophic impact on the earth and could also cause a mass extinction event

It has zero chance of hitting us in 2029. It will not cause a mass extintion event, it’s not big enough. City killer yes.

Ear worm time.. >:) Yeah the BB is pure EBIL!!!!!

TODAY IN THE WEST

In celebration of Eat What You Want Day, I'll ask an age-old question: what is your favorite food?

In NationStates news, Trading Cards are now fully operational! Collectors can rejoice, since this means the Card Club will return to its monthly contest schedule next month as I've announced.

Last but not least, make sure you're endorsing Overthinkers and the Guardians!

I could never identify a single favorite, but shrimp scampi has always been near the top.

I'm presently munching on sweet & spicy honey potato chips. I've never met a hot chip I didn't like, tbh.

Sweet BBD is a true Renaissance man. He is knowledgeable in many things!

Just a hint of a vague veil of purple and red when I looked from the backyard in Central Arkansas. I decided to take a drive with the top down, so I could glance around at the sky on some local roads with less lighting. A bit more obvious, but still vaguely there. There are some good local pictures. But best overexposed photo I got shows some blue/purple in the NW sky fading to black at zenith.

Looks like we're currently at Kp7, G3 storm levels. Hemispheric power down to 236GW from the 357GW last night. Although I read, "anything over 200GW is massive." Looks good for another evening of aurora tonight.

One of the best pictures I've seen of the aurora was shot from the Gold Coast that included bioluminescent algae glowing blue on a ocean swell below the aurora filled sky.
