Please understand that I fully appreciate their artist efforts and all the strides they made for culture, as well as admit that there is very little else that can rival love as a topic to have a song about......
But...
By singing about the devil, which i am not sure if any of them are satanists, Iron Maiden challenged the status quo of a substantial section of the world and one of its main chosen religions. Those are songs of free thinking, institutional descent, and revolution, also on the top of the list of worthy topics to sing about.
Have to side with the one that dances with dragons this time, go figure based on the topic. :P

Hyenas and other Animals, you are correct about many things and maybe this too. I don’t think Iron Maiden are satanists in the least, but they let religion set the agenda. On Thursdays this doesn’t bother me and I hum along to “666 the number of the beast” but on Fridays it really gets my goat.
Religion, sin, evil, god, the devil are used to crush the human spirit, but hey, it’s Saturday now so I’m singing along again - ♬ I’ll crush your body and I’ll make you burn la la la la la. ♬
