I like Stalin quotes. You know, the Indonesians could sail from the middle of the Pacific all they way to Madagascar. They were way ahead of Europe when it came to sailing long distances in that area. They never touched Australia though.

I think the Brits used to send convicts to Australia because they saw it as one of the entrances to hell. It's hot and full of monsters.

Huh, you know I've always liked Australia. I would love to be able to visit it one day.

"A newspaper, if owned by an individual, expresses only the views of its owner. The assertion that it represents public opinion is untenable and has no basis, because in reality it expresses the views of an individual, and from the point of view of genuine democracy it is unacceptable that an individual should own the print media and other types of media that provide the public with information."

Whether a newspaper is privately owned by an individual/corporation or is ran by the state, there is no such ting as a free media because the owner of the paper will always twist events or selectively report events so that it fits with their worldview. There's no such thing as a free press.

Thoughts?

If a publication's contributors are the only ones who believe their own opinion, they won't have a subscriber base very long. Inasmuch as it would be absurd to assert that a medium directly speaks for or represents the opinion of an entire culture, we can certainly observe how much of a culture shares the ideas expressed by the numbers it generates. We will further agree that there's no such thing as a truly unbiased media, but we would assert that the ideas of a free press and an objective press have been conflated here.

Regardless of any media's accuracy, objectivity, or representative capacity, the most a government should do to regulate the free press, something that exists as an extension of both expressive rights and commercial rights, is to regulate itself right out of it. Of course, a government also retains the right to freedom of the press and may use that to generate its own propaganda machine or information resource at will, but that should not happen to the exclusion of the people's right to express their opinions publicly through published media.

All media is biased, but that isn't immoral. The other options are communism or state controlled media, so we're stuck with what it is now. Besides, media will always be biased from the creators perspective regardless of who owns it, so this would render all media that's meant to inform immoral.

Free press is letting things be twisted.

I'll take the bait.

Even going to the heart of capitalism, the U.S., there was alternatives to the present day disaster. the enforcement of the FCC fairness doctrine it its time, the equal-time rule.

Or how they like to talk about "capitalism" and "competence", they could begin to break down the excessive media consolidated conglomerates, that from the political and economic manipulation to the polarization (good for the numbers!), to the generic blandness and low quality music has produced with the standardization of "tastes" across the board.

And of course there is alternatives beyond that. Quality public broadcasting services, community owned media and son on.
