I don’t dislike populism, it’s just when “populists” aren’t really populists. A example would be Tucker Carlson from Fox News.
For example, the 2017 tax cuts, Republicans said there tax cuts would help the middle class (including on parts of Tucker’s show) but the overwhelming amount of the tax cuts went to CEOS.

Trump portrays himself as a Populist, mainly with his policies of Isolationism which is popular with the majority of voters. But a populist would be some to support policies that the majority of people do, like increasing tax on the majority of the population, nationalisation of key industry, anti war etc. In reality of course Trump wasn't on the side of the people
