Relatively few soldiers in non-combat zones have actually killed. But, regardless the definition of murder is not killing in general. There are justified killings and even killings commanded by God.

In general I don’t waste much time thinking about these things because it’s not for me to judge and doesn’t impact me. If you are questioning whether or not to be in the military, it might not be the best call if you are worried about these things.

It's surely complicated, but as far as the commandment is concerned it's not really up for debate that the most accurate translation is that unlawful killing is forbidden. That seems to imply war and capital punishment are not what the commandment is forbidding. Of course theres more to it... like perhaps relishing in bloodlust vs just doing your duty in defense of yourself, your nation, etc.

Just a thought I had. People in my family have been deployed with one having an active combat role in Korea during the war. He is a very kind man and I can't imagine something bad happening to him.

Hey mates, I was wondering if I should change my flag to make it look a bit more Christian. Right now it features a southern cross on the left. if you have an idea let me know. I’ll be happy to hear it

What exactly are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

Amerocolumbia wrote:What exactly are you, if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m working on a Factbook to explain, but I suppose I can explain in brief.

• I am Trinitarian, believing in the one Alahot (“Godhead”) of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

For practices, I subscribe to the following:

• I observe [i]The Lord’s Day on the first day, and I dedicate this day to the breaking of bread and the study of the Besorah.

• I observe the Shabbat on the seventh day, dedicating it to the study of the Torah.

• I believe in the intercession of the Saints and the veneration of the Theotokos.

• I honor the appointed feast days of the Lord.

• I believe in the establishment of the three offices of the Church; Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, though I know them by different names.

• I believe that, ultimately, the rightful head of the Church was Ya’aqub haTzadik, the brother of Yeshua, and that Jerusalem should be the center of the Church.

Totally agree. It's not our call to judge, as Christians we can only act upon our own conscience. Personally I'm a Christian pacifist, but that is not a decision that can be forced on others. However I find the arguments in Matt 5:39 and Luke 3:14 to be quite compelling.

In response to the original question, there are some who would believe that regardless of your life, we all return to the same place. Gen 3:19, 1Cor 15:22, Ecc_3:20, Isa 40:6-7

Are you Messianic?

Have a blessed weekend to all of you!

I would call myself a Netzari (“Nazarene”). There are some similarities, but ultimately the Messianic movement is too chaotic.

What's the difference and do you consider yourself Jewish or Christian?

Protestant Pope wrote:What's the difference and do you consider yourself Jewish or Christian?

The Nazarene community is doctrinally unified, for one, while the Messianic & Hebrew Roots movements are fractured and many hold to doctrines which have little basis in the historical disciples of Isho M’shiha. Essentially, Nazarenes affirm the vast majority of doctrines as taught by the “Oriental Orthodox” churches, such as the Ethiopians and Armenians. But to kinda break it down:

• Messianics utilize Hebrew, Nazarenes use Aramaic, particularly the Syrian dialect.

• Messianics either use modern Yehudi synagogue liturgy or Protestant-style services, Nazarenes retain a liturgical structure similar to that of the Oriental Orthodox, though there are some influences from the Teimani Yehudim.

• Messianics mostly don’t practice communion or do so once a year on Passover, Nazarenes celebrate the Holy Qurbana every first day of the week.

• Messianics reject the practice of veneration of the Qaddishim (“saints”), disallow iconography, and lack a priesthood; Nazarenes disagree on all three accounts.

• Messianics don’t believe in apostolic succession, Nazarenes accept the authority of the Paqidim (“Overseers/Bishops”) as the inheritors of the apostles.

But we do have many similarities. We accept Isho M’shiha as the Savior and King of Israel, observe the Torah, keep the Sabbath, observe dietary laws, practice circumcision of male children, and so on.

Ultimately I would consider myself a Christian, though I acknowledge the term is an exonym applied to us by pagans, and as such I prefer the term “Nazarene” because this is what we called ourselves until the Faith spread among the Nations.

Nazarene Israel wrote:.

Out of respect moving forward I will refer to you with Nazarene. It seems to be similar to how way back in the day people used to refer to Muslims as Mohammedans, which many muslims didn't appreciate.

But now I'm curious if you view the word "Christian" in this manner I was wondering what your opinion is on the image of the Cross?

I actually don’t mind the appellations of “Messianic” or “Christian,” it would be a rather apt description of what I believe.

Oh the cross is the central focus of my faith. As part of our Daily Declarations of Faith, we read:

“I declare that the traditions and teachings given to us through the Chosen Twelve shall continually be within my heart and on my lips, for it was they who gave us, through Maran Isho: baptism, confession to Elah and to man, the doctrine of the Twelve, the sacred ministry, anointing by the sacred oil of Mar-Yah, the gathering together to break the Holy Bread of the Presence, raising up of the Cross before my eyes and before the peoples, assistance and prayer with anointing with oil of those who fall into illness, and observance of and devotion to the Word of Fire of Elah.”
