Welcome to The Planet X! We enjoy intergalactic travelers.

The planet is currently enduring a deep freeze, so many of our operations have come to a bit of a standstill.

Say, tell us about your travels thus far. I have an old friend — Drifter— who travels with a group of other vagabonds and geese. Maybe I can connect you guys.

Thanks for the warm welcome. And no worries, I could see the place was hibernating, somewhat - it's summer in NS, after all :P

I remembered being in a region, some time ago now, that received an embassy request from here, and always thought it looked interesting. So I thought I'd drop in and see what I could see.

I'd be interested in hearing a bit about the place, if you're so inclined to tell.

My travels have been surprisingly rewarding, actually. Wasn't sure what the experience would be, but I've met some good folks along the way. In general, I try to stick to smaller regions that are perhaps a bit off the beaten path. Places I don't know much about but seem interesting. I note one of your embassy partners, Rogue CONclave, being a stand-out region which I visited. Good folks running the place. And the region I arrived here from, Chivana, had some truly fascinating worldbuilding going on there which I found quite attractive. Also good folks :)

I have encountered your Drifting friend and his Goose-led party of travelers, and they were major influences on my desire to set out, as well. Initially, I sort of attempted to join their little band, though I eventually decided to set off on my own. And I think it worked out for the best, this way, as I can set my own pace and very leisurely hop about wherever my fancy takes me. A rather more unstructured meandering, compared to their systematic survey of every region, and this suits my style a bit more. I like them quite a bit, though, and every encounter I've had with them has been exceedingly positive. I was quite saddened to hear when a major member of their troupe, Tao the wanderer, was leaving the game...he seemed like the best of people.

Greetings, I hope you've found everyone welcoming. As The Controller already said, we've been in a freeze for awhile so it is nice you've brought a bit of warmth with you.

Oh-ho-ho...and what would you be offering to sell at this fine, not at all dust-covered, establishment?

I will have you know, however, that several elderly women, including my grandmother, have told me that I am pretty suave when it comes to haggling with a shopkeep. So, you might say I'm a real "wheeler and dealer" type. For instance, I almost never get fleeced and lose every cent I've got on me, anymore.

We have everything here, that piece to the thing you could never find, strange deserts from across the systems, large scale defense platforms (a regional specialty), we also build planet wide if you are looking for a new home, and last but not least we sell anything from small explosives to giant dreadnoughts for your battle needs!

A quick rundown of our planet:

We were initially a defender region that provided defense. Those were fun times, but ultimately we strayed away from that path when our good friend Boot heel arrived.

Boot heel is responsible for the aesthetic of The Planet X — they created our factbook, coded the dispatch with our gift shop, and really helped us brainstorm some cool ideas for this place. I truly hope they come back soon; they always do.

After some brainstorming with Boot heel we decided that we would send drilling nations to our partners (who were added to the galactic map), and would simply let the drilling nations sit until they CTE’d, which in our role play signified that they had obtained the maximum amount of Nullonium possible. Why is the Nullonium necessary you might ask? We use Nullonium to tranquilize King Khidorah — the giant three-headed serpent dragon — that way he doesn’t bust into our underground headquarters and vaporize us all… The inspiration for our world building, and various other themes, is largely based on a Godzilla film, and a hip hop album by the late & great rapper emcee MF DOOM (featured in our factbook).

Well, after awhile, Boot heel took another break from the game — as they always do — and the planet fell into this temporary period of “deep freeze”. Luckily, in the meantime we were fortune enough to be the region of the day.

The thing that is great about The Planet X is that it’s a never ending project. I try to give as much creative leeway as possible when newcomers arrive (with an initial feeling out process of course). Anyone who is motivated to come and steer the place in a new and fascinating direction is always more than welcome.

P.S. I hope the folks at Rogue CONclave found some tang in the cosmos. Last I checked, they were desperately looking for tang…

Well, let's see what's on our shopping list, then:

  • bag of sugar

  • tallow

  • felt lining for hats

  • thermometer, barometer, tachometer, anemometer, pyranometer, drosometer, hydrometer

  • diffusion pump

  • cathode-ray tube

  • detailed map of ocean currents around the Moluccas

  • night-crawlers, chum, and other live bait

  • lithium salts, white mercury salts, bath salts

  • pig iron ingots

  • pipe tobacco

  • bilge pump

  • thirty thousand pounds of bananas

We may also be interested in adding another ship to our flotilla. It's generally preferred that they be overly-large, unwieldy, ungainly, unsightly, displace far more water than necessary, and always tottering precariously on the precipice of collapse. Perhaps we might be able to work together to come up with such a design?

That's quite the unique concept for a region. Seems pretty fun, not to mention flexible.

I have a feeling that I know your Boot heel friend, and consider him a friend, myself. They have a real creative outlook in this game, and I learned quite a bit from them. I, too, hope they eventually choose to return to the game.

I love the idea of sending your "drilling teams" to new embassy regions, and letting them "expire" upon completion of their task. That is some very fun use of the game mechanics. I'm somewhat involved with a very small space-themed region, and would be glad for the opportunity to offer you our Nullonium deposits. Perhaps I will send over an embassy request, if that's alright with you? Or does such activities not happen while the region is in deep freeze?

I am a great lover of the Godzilla films, though I've not seen them all, including the one you speak of, which I believe is " Invasion of Astro-Monster"? I'll add it to the list :) By the way, I've not kept up on any of the more recent films in the franchise, from around 2016 onward. But I'm very excited to eventually delve into them, as I've heard quite a bit about them. Would you have recommendations for ones to make sure to watch and/or others to avoid?

And what a way to find out that MF DOOM passed! :( I don't know a ton about hip hop, but most of what I do know is about the underground scene that he was involved with. I wasn't aware of his "King Geedorah" moniker, but I'm definitely going to check out "Take Me to Your Leader." What an inventive individual. A cousin once introduced me to Kool Keith, Del the Funky Homosapien, and all of the stuff surrounding Dan the Automator. And I definitely owe him a debt for that favor, as it is an amazingly creative world, though, I've fallen off from following most of it.

Do not fear for our best work night and day to protect us, but smash that box over there to grab the hammer needed to break the glass that you use to activate the lift that gives you a weapon capable of breaking that metal over there that on breaking brings up a simon says that you need to pass level twenty on if you wish to call an escape ship.

Thank you for the clear and not at all convoluted instructions regarding emergency procedure. I see you have a well thought out system here. And the mark of every great system is many, many overlapping and superfluous stages.

Worry not, Dr Hypochondriac, we have left the rest of the fleet anchored in good order, and have been following the best of Medieval plague protocols during this current global medical emergency we all now find ourselves in. Enforced isolation of all ship's company (naturally, the officer class has been exempt, given their gentle status). Yellow and green flags have been raised to alert others of our likely contagious nature. Wards to stave off the devil and the evil eye have been painted on every prow. And a proprietary blend of 11 herbs and spices are being burned on board all vessels in order to clear the unhealthy miasma in the air. Really, I struggle to imagine further precautions that could have been taken...
