Tribun Frauke Sievert facepalmed. She had just returned to port with her ship, the Skylancer class frigate Seeadler. In a recent encounter with a Wuzukoy class missile cruiser from the Grand Fleet of Custadia, Sievert had let herself be provoked into running rings around the other ship to show off the superior speed afforded to them by the Seeadler's fusion reactor. The Custadians kept their cool and stayed on course. When Sievert's ship nearly rammed them in the process, they fired off a single unguarded missile into the water in front off the Seeadler. The missile was pulverised by the "Illuminator" point defense Laser cannons onboard the frigate before it hit the water. At that point both captains realised this was no joking matter and broke off, having narrowly avoided a pointless armed conflict between two neutral neighbouring military superpowers.

Now Sievert and her crew were back in Blaumeisehaven and she faced a court martial for her hot-headed actions. Before leaving the bridge, possibly for a long time, she stood and watched the marine traffic around her ship.

Blaumeisehaven, an enormous port city of 25 million people, had become the gateway to Lazarus ever since Leonism opened its borders to foreigners. No city in the country hosted more foreigners at any one time. The port was full of merchant ships, many modern container freighters from Hycronesia, ore freighters from The copper states, allied naval ships from Cianlandia and even a few vessels from Your imaginary friend and Caybow.

The Seeadler was docked in the Außenhafen outer harbour, which all merchant ships needed to pass on the way to the Binnenhafen docks. Next to her, the Imperator class battleship Invictus was moored. Frauke Sievert suddenly noticed a foreign ship with an unknown flag changing course toward the Invictus. The rather small 30 m boat of unknown type accelerated, as if out of control. The crew of the Seeadler began to notice the unusual behaviour. The sailors on the unknown ship removed a cover on deck, unmasking a large calibre machine gun. They opened fire on the Invictus almost immediately. Sievert heard screams on deck, and yelled a hasty command: "We're under attack, target the vessel on portside and open fire". Nobody was at their battle station, and there was a scramble on deck. The attacker was closing in on the enormous battleship, too close now to be targeted by the behemoths guns. A single laser cannon from the Seeadler opened fire, leaving a black scorch mark over the enemy's hull. Then other lasers joined in and set the ship on fire. But it closed in still, and collided with the battleship. The Invictus was shaken a little by the collision. Then suddenly, a giant flash of light blinded all onlookers, and the attacking vessel erupted into a huge explosion, chewing a large chunk of hull right out of the battleship. Frauke Sievert screamed in terror and felt a flash of heat, but her ship and crew seemed unaffected except for minor shrapnel damage. The attacker had vanished, leaving only a large hole in the mighty Invictus.

The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta! Their tank that contains whale sharks is about as big as a football field. =P

Right now they have 3 (at least I could only see 3) adolecents that are about 20 feet long.. but apparently at max age they can get to be over 40 ft.

I went to a talk on whale sharks not too long ago so seeing them up close was particularly interesting. Scientists have tracked them diving down to 6000 ft (before the trackers were destroyed from the pressure) so they must have bodies that can withstand really incredible force. Mind-blowing to me. x)

Sorry about this. I feel bad that we're closing an embassy with you as soon as it was opened; it's something I did incorrectly before resigning as PR Director and I feel really bad about it! >_<

Anyway, I suggest you or the appropriate official in your region reach out to CEO Treadwellia or Acting Director of Public Relations Lazarene ryccia if you're interested in working out some sort of agreement. At this point I do not personally foresee the embassy being reopened while we remain at war with the NPO.

The lands now known as Loftegen 2 were gifted to Lady Zaharra a millennium ago by the ruler of a now long crumbled empire, as a reward for services rendered to him in a time of need. The Lady has used Loftegen 2 as a base of operations ever since, though in these latter days she has little interest in the day-to-day aspects of governing, preferring to leave that to her government.

The eleven tribes that would go on to make up Mzeusia were being oppressed by the Thoonian empire. They decided to rise up against the Thoonians and managed to throw them off. Then, the tribes united to form Mzeusia.

Leonism wrote:The conference room in the Ministerium für das Imperium was at the 10th floor of the ministry's building in the central government district of Leestcheck, Leonism. The view through the panorama windows was fantastic, showing the early morning sun rising behind the Imperialer Reichstag building a few hundred meters to the northeast, behind the huge Platz des Imperiums plaza. Inside the room, an assortment of VIPs sat around an enormous wooden conference table, listening intently to the voice of Präfekt-Commander Johann Jaspers, whose radio-phone call had been relayed by Grau 1. Großadmiral Steffen Wiese, head of all joint Imperial intelligence services, was at the phone, but the call had been put on loudspeakers. Other listeners included Vizekonsul Timo Köhler, the Minister for the Imperium himself, Prokonsul II. Klasse Jennifer Adler, the vice-foreign minister, Vizekonsul Leonhardt Schulte, commander of the imperial Raumwaffe aerospace forces, whose F77 transport shuttle had brought the agents to Loftegen 2 and Großgeneral Maximilian Venkel, who had devised this mission and also taken Jasper's call initially.

Jaspers had just finished describing the situation and fell silent, then everybody started to talk at once. After some heated discussions, Minister Timo Köhler yelled "silentium!", with an ironic grin, and brought again silence to the room. "The best course of action would be to simply continue with the straight-forward approach the Präfekt-Commander has already taken. When the minister in Loftegen asks you, tell him the truth from the start: How you got there, why you got there, that we sent you to avoid a war and ensure that the people of Loftegen did not fall for the deception by the Order...or who ever is behind this. Tell them about the shuttle in the forest and that we're holding a civilian captive to avoid detection. It will show further goodwill. Offer them our assistance with the investigation. We now have the serial numbers from those M22s used in the attack and will trace them back here.
Oh, and tell them Imperator Konsul Leo himself would like to come for a state visit. He's currently in Caybow but his schedule allows a visit to Loftegen next week.

Alas, good work Jaspers, keep doing things the straightforward, the imperial way. If you get into trouble, don't hesitate to ask for reinforcements. If Loftegen 2 betrays our trust, we will strike and get you out of there!"
There was a murmur of agreement in the room. Ultimately the ad-hoc security cabinet also granted Jaspers the right to negotiate on behalf of the Imperium, as had been suggested by Frau Rose.

Meanwhile at the press conference in Altenburg, Loftegen 2, Siemon and here team sat back and listened to what the other journalists wanted to ask. They did not feel like asking more of their own questions would help their mission at this point, and the local views were just as interesting anyways.

In the Linwood, Joan had been released from the handcuffs and been offered a bunk bed inside the transport, with the usual occupant of that bed out on patrol. She felt curiously at ease for someone taken prisoner by foreign soldiers, but they had shown no signs of hostility. It was clear that they could not allow their position to be revealed at this time, but from the sound of their discussions she got the feeling that the current limbo would not last long. Joan was tired and went to sleep, there would be more time to speculate tomorrow...

Undersecretary Rose hadn't even tried to guess how long it would take Jaspers to get in touch with his superiors, explain the situation, and get instructions back. That would depend on factors well outside of her control, such as how quickly the Imperium's government could absorb, process, and make decisions about what Jaspers was telling them.

In the end, it took less than an hour.

She then found herself scribbling frantically, taking notes as Jaspers provided frank answers to her equally frank questions.

'Diplomatic security detail to Imp's hotel', she wrote. 'Move all Imp's to same floor for ease of security. Move all other guests on floor elsewhere.'

'Notify MoD that early warning radar ineffective against Imp aircraft at low altitude. Air Force will provide security for Imp aircraft when it arrives Loft Int'l a-port next a.m. No requests to see int. of A/C. If Imp's offer, fine; if not, our loss. Imp's allowed to post guards around A/C as well; every effort to accomodate their needs.'

'Mrs. Simmons to be released at Loft Int'l next a.m. Contact husband for sure, local authorities if necessary. Debrief Mrs. S. Jaspers has offered to apologize personally. Loft gov't to provide compensation if requested.'

'Leonism emperor requesting invite for state visit. Advise PM accede to req. Timeframe one week. Best hotel accommodations - PM's suite at Altenburg Grand. Assist Jaspers in find & secure suitable temporary embassy.'

'Advise dispatch delegation to Imperium by VIP transport via Hycronesia. FM to make final decision.'

"Well, that's that done," she said, heaving a great sigh of relief.

"Really?" Jaspers asked, chuckling.

Undersecretary Rose grinned. "No, not really. We should get you and your people back to your hotel; we have some rearranging to do, and some people to mildly inconvenience."

"You don't think anyone will be upset?" Jaspers wondered. Evicting people from rooms they had paid for seemed like something that wouldn't go over well.

"Probably a bit," Rose admitted, "But having the government offer to pay their hotel bill should soften the blow considerably."

The central keep of Castle Altenberg extended as far below ground as it did above. While some of the above ground parts of the keep were open for the public to tour, only Lady Zaharra, her closest compatriots, and the most trusted and loyal of her servants, could enter the crypts, vaults, and dungeons that lay beneath it.

One of those secret chambers served the Lady as a laboratory and workshop. Ordinary hand tools lay next to devices of uncertain nature and indeterminate use. At this moment, however, she was working on something much different than usual; wrapping presents. Specifically, gifts for the soon to be born Prince Augustus of Treadwellia and his older siblings. Few in Loftegen 2 would have believed it, but Lady Zaharra actually felt bad that she hadn't sent gifts when Tubbius's other children had arrived in this breathing world. An oversight she would rectify no matter what.

Unfortunately, a toy maker she was not. So she'd had to outsource, and hired some elves to make suitable toys for her. Now, these weren't the kind of elves that labored in Tubbius's workshop. These were the not nearly so nice kind of elf; indifferent at best to mere mortals, at worst outright malicious. But they had the skills she needed, and the threats she'd made about what would happen if any of the toys they created caused the slightest harm to the Royal Children had been sufficiently gruesome to make even the elves blanch.

The elves had done their work quickly and well. Lady Zaharra had carefully examined the toys they'd made, and was satisfied that they were safe. All she had to do was finish wrapping them and...

Something. Something was happening, somewhere. Something...important? She left the lab for the library next door. She had a Seeing Stone there. Unlike the best of its kind, it could only show present events, but even that was useful. Removing the cloth covering the stone, she gazed into its depths.

A scene appeared, of a great warship, holed at the waterline and sinking, perhaps, into the muddy waters of some far off harbor. The Lady studied the scene carefully. The flag of the Imperium of Leonism was flying from the ship's mast, and smaller craft were approaching, to render aid no doubt. The scene faded.

As she walked back to her lab, Lady Zaharra recalled the old maxim: "Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is enemy action." She might have to look into this more closely.

The Interview (Part 1)

She was getting too old for this kind of work thought as the spaceplane descended from the stratosphere where it was cruising at mere Mach 10 towards the Center Spaceport. Unlike the tourists filling the rest of the plane, she was not there for pleasure. It was work. The matter seemed impossible of course, but being the most formidable journalist of Lazarus with more than three decades under her belt of getting interviews with the more powerful men, women and other beings, only made her steely resolution stronger.
The quickly changing landscape was dizzying so she changed the mode of the window to landscape and began to pickup her belongings.

The spaceport was of course build in the near mandatory minimalist / high tech approach typical of this places, with the softening of lots of vegetation. She headed for the customs and got her first surprise. The custom was a small corridor no more than ten meters long with no person, or anyone visible. With caution and later getting a briskier pace she simply crossed, a terminal at the end displayed a green and a message of welcome and that was anything.

Invisible for the human eye was the superconducting magnets that powered the SQUID sensors, the T-ray machine, the NMR, the chemical sniffers and DNA sequencers analysing the breath and microbiota, the gait, the posture, the face captured by the cameras and the AI analysing all the data to check the identity of the person crossing the corridor, their luggate and their correspondence between the person and the passport. All done within seconds and with zero hurdles for the passanger.

After exiting the terminal, before she even had the chance to check the compatibility of her phone with the local network a grey android comically was holding with his two arms a giant banner that read “Mrs Ellen Thomas, Lazarus PressCorp”. She even chuckled at the incongruity. - I thought that you were more of the overengineered solution Mr …? . With a perfect voice the android laughed. - “Since you insisted in travelling half the world for something that could have been done online, we decided to humor you” - I am not here for pleasure. -Yes we know, but it is a better welcome than simply send a car to pick you up or to take the subway.

She harrumphed. She didn’t like to be managed. So she simply headed to the exit of the spaceport to take the car with the android.

“Of course”, she thought drily when she saw it. A nondescript white ovoid hovering silently slightly over the ground. They were unable to be like 1 minute without flaunting their advanced tech.
She and the android took seat in the inside, and the “car” at the same instant, entered the traffic at a speed too fast for a human driver to do. All with total quietness in the inside.

But it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter the blatant exhibition of thech or the prank. She had appointment and a job to do.

She was going to interview Viridian Vivacity the ruling AI of the Aigania’s Lazarus enclave.
In person.

And to ... if it was a overhuman AI in the cloud. She was going to get answers.

For sure.

In game created regions like Lazarus, the WA is simply whoever has the most endorsements when the region upates (which happens twice a day). In user created regions, the same is true, but the founder of the region can place strict limits on the Delegate's powers, and remove the delegate any time they want to.
