Ruinenlust wrote:That's a good point: adoption is a wonderful thing. I'm absolutely NEVER, EVER against currently-existing people. People are the best thing on the Earth, but I'm biased. It's just that it's possible to have too much of a good thing; even too much of the best thing. Overpopulation is like dieting: you don't have to burn off calories that you never consume to begin with, and you don't have to "figure out" what do to with people who never existed to begin with. And if there were a widespread movement to have zero children or one child, the potential adoptees would probably not have to sit in orphanages and other situations like that for very long, I hope.

Also "yes" to the cats!!! Cats are magic. Dogs are also magic. Animals are wonderful, in general. Except maybe some insects...

Agreed as to the thoughts on children. I've had somewhat similar ones myself.
As to cats: unleashed cats are indeed dangerous to wildlife. And they should be as they are predators. That's their nature and one of the reasons that I say bless their savage hearts. I love cats. It'd truly be a sad day for me to see their nature change more that it already has. Symbiotic, but still wild. I don't believe that they feel anything like human love, but they can be "affectionate" in their sensuality.
Humans in cars, particularly those that are uncaring, careless and/or needlessly cruel are a danger and not only to our cats.

I laughed out loud at this one, just when you thought you had heard it all

Nah, no children for me!

I’ve recently started reading the book “The Hate U Give”, and it is really good and I’d recommend reading it, especially if you do not know very much about racism and police brutality, or if you are dealing with white privilege. Not only does it seem very accurate, it is also very heart moving, and it does a good job at explaining the socioeconomic issues BIPOC people face in a simple yet incredibly thematic format. I also like how it is adult enough that it covers the issues and deals with these terrible problems, yet it is still suitable for teens to read. It also presents all of its views in a format that is easy to read and more like a realistic fiction than a nonfiction manifesto, yet it retains its themes and its purpose. I would really recommend it

Hello to you, my old friends of Forest! This might be a little too much of a shameless plug, and I would like to apologise for that.

So... I do stats analysis, i.e. using NS Stats and making graphs to see if the categories correlate, or any other relationships. More about it here: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=475174&sid=d85cde37c1df2a0655769bb8a834507f

And I would like to ask permission on if I could use your Greenness Index for my data? I will indeed give credit to Forest and the author.

Sample chart:

Here's a sample graph with Combined Industries Index (CII), my own creation on sum of normalised industries (all the industries, manufacturing, and agriculture... excludes Tourism. I should add that too!), mapped against Forest's formula for Greenness Index.

I really do hope and wish to use this formula for more analysis. Thank you for hearing me out, and hope you all have a great day! ♥

As far as I'm aware, the data from the GI is public domain. However, you could send a telegram to Ransium if you want to be safe, as he is the mind behind the formula.

I commend your work!

Statistics question, for those who are more knowledgable of these things than I am:

Are "Civil Rights" and "Social Conservatism" essentially just mirror images of each other? I am fourth from the top of Civil Rights in the region, and fourth from the bottom of Social Conservatism, and it appears that the top ten Civil Rights nations and bottom ten Social Conservatism nations are just reversed lists of each other.

And if they are not just inverse measures, what actually sets them apart, in terms of the game mechanics?

Wish granted! ^^

I would also do a color plot to show density (where the nations are densed up at), but for 200,000+ nations.... this would take an hour or more to calculate. I will put it up more officially on my thread! ^^

EDIT: I am doing the color plot now. This might take a while. Stay tuned!

EDIT 2: Color density is up! https://i.imgur.com/mqwhqtV.png . Red = Most dense/most nations. Pink = Least dense/Lowest number of nations here.

These are all quite wonderful! Come to think of it, my simple mind would be happy to see a one-dimensional chart for each statistic and how many nations are where along the distribution. Like for that one, it seems like there is a concentration of nations with Civil Rights around the 50s, with another, smaller cluster around the 20s or so.

But at any rate, those charts are all wonderful!

Hmm, now that's an idea! I might give that a try someday, hehe. Thanks for the suggestion! ^^

Hello everyone

Hello!

Hi everyone! This is a bit late but I am Badivermeraed, your ambassador from Thalassia! I am excited to work with you and be with you!

I was just sent this telegram:

"Sick of what's going on in your current region? Come somewhere else.

Adaliumocun

Join us some place else."

Is something going on? Am I, a very important nation upon whom many in the region rely and I'm definitely not making that up to feel better about myself, not being kept in the loop?!

Answers! I DEMAND THEM! Please.

'Cause otherwise, things seem to be ticking over quite nicely, actually.

It's a low-quality, low-effort telegram. I dunno. Pay it no mind.

I got the telegram, and accidentally moved. Much sad.

Yesterday was the first time I've actually bought fireworks for the Fourth... spent over $300. Had a blast, definitely going to start buying them each year.

It seems like everyone had the same idea as you! In my neighborhood at least the fireworks were popping off constantly from all directions from 7 till well past midnight.

I’m personally against most fireworks. Not only do they release a lot of CO2 for their size, they also can be quite dangerous to yourself and others. They cause tons of property damage, and also they hurt many people each year. I guess firework shows are fine in bigger cities, but only in areas with few birds (perhaps release beforehand some sort of natural chemical into the air that birds don’t like, such as peppermint oil, or garlic, or cayenne pepper), and only in a few cities, and have everyone else just watch the shows on TV. That way, you’re only having a few shows that are made sure to be safe, and everyone’s happy.

We did however light a stick of incense, but it was very safe and seemed to be releasing more scented steam than smoke. My dad thought it was a sparkler and lit it, and by then it was too late, but it did smell nice, and I think [read: hope] it wasn’t too harmful for the environment.

I dunno guys, this Adaliumocun sounds pretty amazing. It's like this place for people that don't want to be in a place. And it has one rule. Adults only. Except that rule won't be enforced.

I don't think I've ever seen a place with such a clear and coherent vision.

And this Xakememorinatri, who has this amazing vision and founded this region, they're a real luminary of Nationstates. You can't play this game and not know the name Xakememorinatri. I mean, how many of us wanted the nation name Xakememorinatri for ourselves, and were annoyed that someone else got there first, all those years ago?

I'd head there right now, but I've not been invited. I mean, Forest has so much to learn from Adaliumocun. Shalotte, when you transfer there do you think you could put in a good word and speed up my application to join the region?

Step up your game, Forest!
