Ubertas, officially the Ecclesiastic Republic of Ubertas or ERU, is an island country in the southeastern portion of Dawnbreak, on the Hvremas. Ubertas borders Min and New Zaron to its northwest and northeast, respectively. The nation has no land borders to the south, with the Alysida Ocean to the west and the Straight of Ulmo to the east. Ubertas 1,626,318km² and has an estimated population of 3 million. Ubertas is a unitary state, but administers a select number of devolved regions, including the National Holy Capitol District.
Ubertas is the site of ancient cultures for humans and elves, with some elvan sites going as far back as the Age of Frost. The ancient human Ubertasians were migrants from boats that left tribes crossing over from Sinistael and Dextera. It is the site of many archeological and anthropological finds, especially for studying some of the first interactions between humans and elves. During this time, the interactions between the two groups eventually produced numerous small nations. These would evolve into strong regional cultural diversity that defines Ubertas today. The nation is also the site of many dark mage artifacts from the Ubertasian Era of Dark Magic & Warring States, which are newly being studied after Ubertas' opening to the world. Many of these are buried in the subterranean layer beneath Ubertas, which was partially formed during the wars centuries before by dark magic.
Ubertas was established by the descent of Endymus the Moonbeam, who destroyed the Vincorosian capital and went on to remove the state entirely. During the first Year of Their Holy Revelation, a meteor struck the Grand Hierarchy's seat of government, and out came a man. The man, Endymus, claimed to have been sent by the one true deity: Trila, the Three-Pointed Star of Life, or the Three-In-One Sun. He taught the people of Ubertas powerful barrier, dream, hallucinogenic, and mind magic, which were gained through intense meditation or mind-altering substances and stoicism. Through his leadership and teachings, Ubertas freed itself from Vincoros. In his final two acts, Endymus gathered his top followers and declared that the people, inspired by his holy teachings, were to form a state that would prepare the populace for ascendancy and return to Chaos. His most trusted follower, Tala, would inherit his power and lead them.
In the wake of Endymus' ascendancy, Tala became the first Archprophetess of Ubertas. Before ascending, Endymus then bound the power to the office and ensured the power would leave each Archprophet at the right time and be passed into the body of their successor. Then, with the remaining chief disciples, they formed the Orthodoxy, the supreme authority on Trilaism. They also formed the Ecclesiastical Republic.
The new state immediately struck a balance between democratic rule and ecclesiocratic rule, intending to never produce another Vincoros again. Ubertas is thus a highly unique nation in the world, with a rare blend of republicanism, which serves as the scale against which democracy and religious morals/meritocracy are balanced. Here, the different communities, as well as small minority cultures in Ubertas, would be unified with the nation's ultimate goal: Ascendancy, The Great Work. To achieve this aim, Ubertas created The Sacred Shield: a powerful magical barrier surrounding the nation, fueled by the magic poured into the faithful's prayers. Through the Shield, Ubertas cut herself off from the world, hoping that lack of interaction and deep national dedication to the Great Work would detach Ubertasians from worldly desires and wholly devote them to Orthodoxy. This strategy failed, however, and after 1250 years, the nation faced famines, lack of magical development, and falling devotion numbers. Moreover, the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Great Work, which is dedicated to finding a means of mass ascension, had not made substantial progress in decades. Because of this, the current Archprohetess, Sofia XXIV, prayed for three weeks straight until purportedly receiving a vision from Trila. The vision resulted in her invoking the Primarchal authority for the second time in Ubertas' history, a constitutional power which gives the Archprohet/ess the authority to influence a vote in the National Synod, to bring the nation out of its self-imposed isolation. The nation is currently embarking on various diplomatic missions throughout the realm of Dawnbreak in hopes that the answer to Ascention may lie beyond in the great wide world...

Ubertas comes from the word for “bountiful” or “plentiful” in the Ecclesial Tongue. After the destruction of Vincoros, Endymis, wanted to create a people's state where the nation was overflowing with prosperity and spiritual bounty.
The standard way to refer to a citizen of Ubertas is as a "Ubertasian."
The Pre-Vincoros Years
Ubertas' recorded history begins with the establishment of various tribes of humans and small dynastic kingdoms of Elves. The Elven kingdoms existed before recorded history, with some lineages dating back to the Age of Frost. Many of them are thought to be loosely descended from the elves of the northern continent of Sinistael. During the age of Swirling Mist, the first humans appeared in Ubertas. It is not wholly known where they originated, and some legends hold that they simply appeared by the whim of the gods. Humans and elves initially mistrusted one another. Large differences in culture and faith divided the peoples, and during this time, the usage of magic began to slowly take shape. Early magic, or what Ubertasians refer to as "Good/Light Magic," centered on learning the true names of the things one wished to invoke, and the incantations, words, and phrases that got the spirits and magical energies to respond. However, the competing societies quickly weaponized magic, and mages became widespread. Magic quickly turned to "Dark Magic", involving the usage of spells and incantations that beguiled, tricked, or even brainwashed spirits and magical energies into subservience and perverted actions. These often used materials and substances to boost magical prowess and trap/harvest spirits. This stood in stark contrast with Light Magic, which relied on a clear mind, self-enlightenment, and meditative intention to cast spells. Soon, warring mageocracies began to compete for dominance. This era, known as the Eon of Blood, lasted until one nation managed to unite the disparate kingdoms of Ubertas into one terrible state.
The Vincorosian Oppression
The largest and most powerful, the Grand Hierarchy of Vincoros, emerged and grew to dominate the area of modern Ubertas and portions of the lost lands to the south. Vincoros specialized in magic surrounding the true names inherent to bodily substances, which gave them unparalleled and dark magical talent over blood, mind, and body. They used it to command large armies of mindless soldiers, and even pacify their populace into utter subservience. At the Hierarchy's peak, only around 5% of the populace was of true independent mind, whereas the rest were kept in states of magically induced subservience, euphoria, and controlled thought. Vincoros built large cities surrounded by sites of great magical evil. At the center of every city was an altar dedicated to The Masked One, the chief deity of the Vincorosian state. The theology of Vincoros was one of material accumulation and the advancement of magical power to the point of dominating all life. Thus, at the center of every city, citizens were routinely sacrificed, and their souls harvested and converted into magical energy the Empire could use in research and the sustenance of the magical energy field that kept much of the people brainwashed. Vincoros lasted until 1200 years ago, when it was overthrown by the destruction of the Vincorosian capital of Almoth by the arrival of Endymus, the Moonbeam.
The Descent of Endymus
Despite their power and seemingly absolute control over its people, the rulers of Vincoros feared a prophecy received by their first Archon. According to legend, the Masked One bestowed the knowledge of the empire's characteristic blood and mind magic to the first Vincorosian Archon. In exchange for that, and knowledge of war and statecraft, the Hierarchy would last for 5000 years. It was a deeply held state secret until the 500th Archon was killed by a rival and supplanted, ending all knowledge of the Dark Pact. The deal was forgotten, and the state slowly believed it would last forever. During that time, the Hierarchy adopted the title of the Eternal Hierarchy to emphasize its goal of outlasting all other earthly nations. On the eve of the Hierarchy's 5000th year, the nation was blissfully unaware and in deep celebration. It was during this time of revelry by the upper Hierarch echelons that a piece of the Moon suddenly fell -- destroying the Vincorosian capital of Almoth and sending a strange shockwave that disabled the imperial mind control spell. Within days, the empire unraveled, as the Vincorosians lacked internal police forces or security services due to their dependence on magic for dominance. This was not the only occurrence, however, as a being came out of the disaster centered at the old capital. The being was called Endymus, the Moonbeam. He quickly revealed his divine prowess, healing the sick, rebuilding entire cities, and creating sanctuaries of good governance and peace amidst the anarchy of the Vincoros' collapse. Endymus claimed to be from beyond the material plane, from the realm beyond, where the one true god Trila- the Three-In-One Sun and the First Light of Creation- lay beyond. Endymus further claimed to be the Son of Trila - not a god himself but a divine servant and prophet sent by Them. Three weeks after the Hierarchy's collapse, the Ubertasians experienced a mass vision, where their briefly were taken beyond the Void into Chaos, where they saw Trila: a bright, three-pointed flame, with a blinding eye at its center and three figures dancing in the center of the flames: a young person, an adult in their prime, and a wisened old person. The vision of Trila gave way to the voice of Endymus, who told the people to come to the capitol and follow him. Hundreds upon thousands heard the call and flocked to the capitol in droves. Some did not respond, distrustful of any magic or gods, and left the lands for unknown parts.
Endymus claimed that Trila was the archenemy of the Masked One, and taught that the Masked One created material reality to trap souls in an endless cycle of reincarnation, materialism, and self-indulgence. He claimed that through magical hallucinations, dreams, meditation, and stoicism, rejection of materialism could allow one to learn all of their true names and become one with the spirits, souls, and magic of the world. Thus they would end their cycle of reincarnation and return to the light of Trila in the Chaos. The people made Endymus their leader, and he helped the people to rebuild and taught them the ways of Trila.
During this time, Endymus laid down the foundations for the later Ubertasian state and the Orthodoxy itself. These were done in tandem with his spiritual teachings, with the hope that the worldly organizations could foster spiritual enlightenment and keep Ubertas on the path. Endymus identified 3 individuals with the greatest prowess, and dubbed them the Prophet of the Scion, the Prophet of the Primarch, and the Prophet of the Elder, after the three aspects of Trila. These were individuals who had great spiritual potential, and Endymus shared portions of his magical knowledge with them. Through him, these prophets gained a degree of prescience, dream magic, healing, and barrier magic that far exceeded anything in the known world. They also gained a great sense of enlightenment and even learned much of their true names. They were commissioned to find disciples and organize them into committees and democratic bodies. He instructed them to be tolerant and loving of those who did not wish to follow Trila, and through this the foundations of the modern Ubertasian legislature were established. The committees elected a faithful person to lead matters of state, in a manner in accordance with Endymus' and his prophets' guidance. Together, they rebuilt the scarred land, spread the faith, and wrote down his teachings into the Liberating Scriptures, the faith's holy text. Endymus stayed with the people for 50 years, until one day he claimed he could teach no more, and to finish his lessons, he ascended to Trila and became one with her light. He took all power and passed it down to his three prophets, vowing that the magic would enter a new and worthy Prophet of Scion upon the passing of a Prophet of Elder. This final act served as an example of the ultimate goal of the faith's adherents. He left them with one final message: that one day Ubertas itself would ascend, they would become one with Trila, and creation would begin anew with their spirits and Trila Themselves forming a new sentient universe.
The Founding of the Republic & Modern Ubertas
After Endymus' ascension, the people of Ubertas took his teachings and the institutions he established, and created a new state: The Ecclesiatic Republic. Heeding Endymus' proclamation that those should convert by example and living of the faith, not evangelization or force, the new state struck a balance between secular democratic structures and leadership from well-regarded Orthodoxy elites. The 1st National Synod, the nation's new legislature, took office a year after Endymus' death. The people elected the first Presbyter, Joshua Duplencity, as their leader. The government quickly took to finishing the rebuilding efforts and shaping the laws, state, and society around principles designed to maximize the people's chances at ascendancy. As Presbyter Duplencity outlined, "we shall craft the path through the ocean of society using our ship of state. She shall be the lanterns along the path and the beacon in the storm that all may follow to meet Endymus once again."
The Prophets became the new leaders of the new institutionalized faith, The Orthodoxy, and appointed followers to the various positions of the nation. The Prophet of the Primarch became the first Archprophet of the Spiritual and Temporal, the reigning leader of the faith. The other two acted as support, with the Archprophet standing in as a "first amongst equals" responsible for the daily administration and figurehead for the duties of the faith. 20 years after the Ascension, the Archprophet Vertis had a dream-vision, where Trila and Endymus spoke to them and stressed the need for protecting the people and isolating them from the sinful world beyond. When he awoke, Vertis went to the Synod, and in an act only ever used twice in the nation's history, used his constitutional power known as the Primarchal Mandate to declare a proclamation amongst the faithful lawmakers to enact a policy of his design. This policy was one of isolation: Ubertas would hide behind clouds and a magical barrier, the Sacred Shield, and be wholly self-sufficient and dedicated to the Great Work (a project designed to allow the whole nation to ascend together). The state closed itself off, and so it remained. The only change to this policy occurred in the 800th Year of Their Holy Revelation (800 years after Endymus), when Doraan Quitium, a roughish trader, went beyond the Shield. He managed to work magic to disrupt the barrier in a small area, and slipped through, sneaking out over the Straight of Ulmo in Ubertas' northeast into western Hremas and into Dexterra. By what accounts there are, Doraan undertook many adventures in the Kingdom of Imantica before returning with great riches and knowledge. Doraan's Odyssey, as it is now called, wowed the people. He brought back goods and magic that quickly gained popularity across Ubertas, and brought him great wealth. Eventually, even the Dicastery of Research asked to see the tomes and magic he returned with. It was then that the Ecclesiastic Republic's government realized it may be necessary to have some small trade and contact with the outside world. To ensure the disruption would be minimal, they created a small opening in the barrier in the City of Ulmo, near Doraan's original escape route (now called Doraan's Crossing or Strait). They formed the Ubertasian Merchant Marines to go out in limited distances from Ubertas to nearby nations and cities for trade, and to police the waters near Ulmos for piracy. This remained the policy of Ubertas for nearly 400 years, until the ascension of the Archprohetess Sofia XXIV.
Nearly four centuries following Doraan's Odyssey, Ubertas advanced more rapidly. The nation had gained the ability to create "commune" spells, where the prayers of thousands could be used to cast a large spell. The barrier and defensive magic had also gotten quite impressive, which by now were nigh-impenetrable. Ubertasian dream magic, whereby spells combined sleep and effects to the soul, spirits, and the mind. Now, people could be linked during worship services and put into deep meditation whereby their true names would begin to emerge and form networks of names akin to a sentence or a book; maximizing spiritual power. In some cases, they could be used to invoke a small experience, glimpse, or boon from Trila and the Chaos. The small and limited trade was dominated by the Dicastery for Research and a small circle of Orthodoxy officials and longstanding trade families and Cooperatives. The knowledge was able to fuel this revolution in technology. Despite this, the nation had reached another standstill. For nearly 100 years, no new substantial progress had been made. The Orthodoxy deemed advancing magic to be a spiritual practice, and thus stagnation was seen as a sign that Trila was guiding them to a new purpose. Sofia XXIV had a dream vision, wherein she communed with Trila and was given instructions to reopen the nation. Invoking her spiritual authority over the legislature's faithful and adherents, she convinced the civilian state to remove the Sacred Shield and begin contact with other nations. The news shocked the nation, but excited many. A large but struggling farmer and merchant class had emerged over the years, and these were tired of the stagnation. Many flocked to the new Foreign Affairs Dicastery, which was seeking their limited worldly experience to conduct diplomacy with the new world. To date, diplomatic missions have been sent to Sinistal and Dextera, with the nations Elarithil, Steveist Guam, Chreeno, and Imantica contacted. And so...the pages of history lie blank and waiting to be written on the RMB...

A Map of Ubertas' Administrative Districts
Ubertas’ official language is Ecclesiastical Tongue, which is a language passed down by the Endymus and by extension, the Orthodoxy. All students are taught the Tongue in schools from the 1st grade onwards, and most Ubertasians since the Ecclesiastic Republic’s founding have since become fluent thanks to both education and state-run programs for adult religious instruction and language. The government and its business are traditionally conducted in the Tongue; however, colloquially many still speak common or elvish. Certain areas have their own native languages, especially the Special Autonomous Regions.
The Orthodoxy: Creation Myth and Establishment
The state religion of Ubertas is Orthodoxy, the institution established by Endymus before his ascension. The Orthodoxy's holy text is the Sacred Scriptures, a compendium of writings and sayings penned by his early followers. The faith worships Trila, which appears as a large three-pointed flame or star containing a bright, blinding eye at the center and the figure of a young person, an adult in their prime, and an old wisened person in each beam/flame. These are the Three Principal Lights of Trila, or the different aspects and expressions of reality and Their will and power. Each is thought to function as both an individual and part of an individual. These Lights can commune and recognize one another, and Trila Themselves. It can be seen as a state of superposition where Trila may manifest as one aspect, also oscillate into others, but still maintain the higher state combining all of them. The young person, or the Scion, embodies new life, youth, love, childhood, passion, etc. The adult in their prime, the Primarch, represents preservation, sustenance, guidence/oversight of others, and judgement. The final Light, the Elder, represents death, age, finality, and wisdom. Their unity as Trila represents how the illusory and reincarnation-driven material world is a lie, and that linear time, life, living, and death are one beyond the Void. In common tongue, Trila is referenced as They/Them/Theirs, combining male, female, and all attributes in between. Trila is thought to be the embodiment of all things that were, are, and are to be. They are thought to be not a god in the sense many may think of, as a ruler or a cosmic judge, but rather as a source or a font from which all things flowed out of and all things will return. They are the collection of all ideas, feelings, thoughts, dreams given form. In essence, the embodiment of all concepts and True Names, whose instinct is the ultimate reunification of all beings, who carry with them a Light of Trila.
Trila is said to come from the first thought or concept to exist, some say from Chaos itself. They are the first True Name or the thought/concept of "existing." This thought was so powerful it led to an opposing thought; the two thoughts synthesized, creating a new thought. This continued and the thoughts and words gained complexity, independent power, and individuality all their own. This happened so suddenly that all the aspects, or Lights of Trila, burst forth and separated, leaving only the three largest aggregates of thoughts joined together. Those that separated created souls and spirits - pieces of Trila that had now gained independence and a small piece of Them. Each had a designation or an inherent property borne from the unique pieces of Trila they were part of. These became the True Names of the spirits and souls: a set of divine words and names that make up and describe each piece of knowledge and energy of Trila they were borne from. However, these were made from Trila's Light or rays, and thus each unique aspect of Trila had separated into these. Trila initially was the quintessence of all aspects and all embodiments of creation, all concepts, ideas, but the Great Birthing, as it is called, separated these pieces into individual spirits, souls, and True Names. This reduced the infinite Lights of Trila at Their conception to the Three Principal Lights we know today. Nevertheless, these new entities recognized the supremacy of Trila, and lived with Them in a timeless state of spiritual peace and accord. That is, until a spirit known as the Masked One created the Great Sealing.
The Masked One was born from one of the most intelligent and magically inclined portions of Trila's Light. This gave way to hubris quite quickly, and The Masked One used magic to create material reality within the realm of the Void by bringing the Chaos' energies into it. He then tricked the spirits and souls of Chaos to leave, just as Trila began a ritual to reunite the spirits with their source (Trila). The souls gained physicality as soon as they crossed over, and the Masked One sealed himself and the spirits and souls away. This prevented the spirits and souls from rejoining their source, and instead tricked them into fixation with materialism and physical things. This fixation is the pull of the physical self, borne from the Chaos and not the Chaos, and prevents the soul/spirit from leaving the plane (even upon death). It instead traps them all in an endless cycle of reincarnation, with each time slowly draining any tie to the Chaos they have. Eventually, they will be trapped forever and never be able to break free. This was thought to be the purpose of the Hierarchy: to keep the people trapped until their souls were forever locked. If a soul/spirit is too weak, it will instead just be pulled back toward a physical body -- getting weaker each time. The goal of the Orthodoxy is to teach people to strengthen their spirit, thereby growing its power to break free and mitigating (sometimes even slightly healing) the drainage of connection to the Chaos.
This was why Endymus came: to thwart the Masked One's plan and teach souls the way to not just mitigate the damage of reincarnation, but become so spiritually powerful that the soul sets itself free completely. In doing so, the Orthodoxy believes that all souls will escape the Void, enter Chaos, and rejoin Trila as one of Their Lights. At the end of this Great Ascendance, Trila will be reunified with all Their Lights, thereby becoming whole again and unified in an infinite dialogue and song with the aspects of Themself. In this state, all souls and spirits would know themselves fully and know one another fully. Their concepts, ideas, and the harmony of them would create more Lights, and Trila would grow until all is consumed and Chaos itself becomes Trila. Thus, all things would no longer be separate as they were after the Great Birthing, and instead Trila would become the joined harmonious embodiment of all things. The material Void would pass away, giving way to what is called the Eternal Communing and Recognition of the Self by the Many Who Make Up the Self. Such would be the state of all life and all spirits, and is the state they all yearn for inherently.
No one person can ascend and break free upon death. Even the Prophets cannot, as they embody a piece and not the whole of Endymus. Even still, his powers are greater as a whole; thus the three prophets cannot ascend on their own by simply combining their strength. It is because of this that the Orthodoxy's goal is the complete and total ascendance of the Ubertasian people, and perhaps even the world. They believe that through worship and arcane progress, they can achieve the necessary spiritual energy to achieve ascendance. This is called The Great Work. The Orthodoxy's Rituals, beliefs, and services therefore reflect this goal. The Great Work is considered the all-encompassing research and worship plan pushed by the Orthodoxy through the Ubertasian state. Every generation has a Prefect of Research, who is appointed Steward of the Great Work. They serve as the Principal Investigator of all efforts to achieve ascendancy. They are usually dually trained in magic and theology, giving them a title known as "Doctor of the Faith." The current Prefect of Research on the Doctrine of the Faith is Torias Cuax, who holds the rank of Archprimate in the Orthodoxy's clergy.
Principals of the Orthodoxy
The teachings of the Orthodoxy revolve around the Three Heavenly Rays: The Ray of the Scion stands for Recognition of the Soul and Others' Souls; the Ray of the Elder: Rejection of material reality and worldly attachments; finally, the Ray of the Primarch stands for the Recognition of Trila as the one true way and deity. The Ray of the Scion means that adherents of the faith must seek to understand their soul and all the true names it contains. They must also do the same for others, in the hopes that their souls may commune. By extension, respect for life, unconditional love, and forgiveness are paramount. The Ray of the Elder represents the goal of detaching from earthly things. This means the faith encourages people to avoid conflict and to live stoic, measured lives with limited material desires and possessions. It also encourages dispassion and calmness of the heart and mind, rejecting what it sees as "lesser emotions" such as anger, fear, hate, etc. Finally, the Ray of the Primarch teaches that all must heed the words of Trila through Endymus, and make it the center of their lives.
Orthodoxy regards the third day of the week as the holy day, wherein all adherents must set aside time to honor Trila. Ubertasians do not worship Trila in a sense of subservience, but rather seek access to their inner selves and converse with Trila. Services are therefore called Communes and are designed for adherents to spiritually heal and gain guidance from Trila. Services usually last three hours, with each hour dedicated to a different Heavenly Ray. The first hour, the hour of the Scion, involves breathing exercises and meditative chants from the Claric, designed to psychologically prep the faithful's mind and spirit. Then, they receive the Dreamwheat and Moonberries: a plant left at the site of Endymus' ascension that is said to contain a piece of his true name. Eating it induces a trancelike magical dream state after consumption. Adherents are put into this trance under the guidance of the priest or cleric, who uses their magic to bind their experiences together and link them so that they may commune with one another's true names. The second hour, the hour of the primarch, involves hearing the word administered through the priest to the altered state, which also involves a form of guided meditation on the words and messages. The final hour, the hour of the Elder, is when the moonflower peaks and then dissipates. Here, the adherents are left to wander and explore their inner selves and souls, and find peace and detachment from the world. This is considered a form of astral projection, where the dream, acting as a gateway, leads to a shared astral projection experience partially into the Chaos under the guidance and administration of the priest.
Endymus and his nature are often confusing to many, but important. He is seen as the first, chief, and greatest of the Archprophets. Thus, he is often styled as "The Highest of Archprophets" or the "Prophet of the Prophets." After his ascension, his power was separated into the three Prophets of the Orthodoxy - an intentional division by Trila Themself that makes him the greatest Prophet and the only one with Their authority. He is seen by the Orthodoxy as the greatest of the souls made by Trila: an intentional separation of part of Their being to be opposed to the Masked One. Endymus is generally prayed to as the Great Intercessor, or a being who can hear the prayers of the faithful in dreams and send their messages to Trila. Moreover, he can be prayed to for guidance to better guide the mind and soul during dreams and meditations. Invoking Endymus during a Commune can often be powerful, and is usually part of the guided portion during the Hour of Primarch. The priest will say a set of sacred words and true names to this effect, evoking his spirit. Often, it has a profound effect on guided trance meditation; adherents claim to feel a profound wash of clarity, peace, and vivid visions of guidance. In private, it has been known to lead to miraculous visions which help adherents find the right path in their actions and lives.
The Hierarchy and Governance of Orthodoxy
Orthodoxy is a very hierarchical religion, but at the same time a highly democratic one. The church maintains a rigid and hierarchical body of priests and clerics, promoted through skill in holy magic, teaching/parish leading, and theology/research. These are in turn, encouraged to communicate regularly with the faithful in a process called the Synodal Way, where in the Prophets of Endymus lead the church, but also commune with the Laity or unordained members of the faith. The church has Assemblies, which act as districts overseen by a Claric. Above them are Patriates, who oversee aggregates of Assemblies called Syndates. Above them are the Episcopi, who oversee them and are in charge of running most affairs. They are also charged with identifying the new reincarnation of a third of Endymus' magic: the new Prophet of the Scion. At the top are the Prophets, who nominally are all equal but are led officially by the Prophet of Primarch, or the Archprophet. The previous Archprophet serves as Prophet of Elder and mentors the other two. The Prophet of Scion learns from the other two to one day take the Archprophet role. Each Archprophet reigns for 50 years -- the same number of years Endymus walked the world. The magic of Endymus is powerful, and ensures it is passed on to persons of the right temperament and mind. It also ensures the lifespans of the Prophets always last the same length and are immune to disease. Thus, they all ascend to Archprophet at the same age, reign 50 years, retire to Prophet of the Elder at the same age, and die at the same age.
The Orthodoxy and The State
Despite emphasis on the rejection of material reality, Endymus was a political and social leader as much as a spiritual one. He believed that worldly institutions, set up properly, could guide the people to ascendance. In his mind, having an organization and a government dedicated to moving its great powers to remove worldly distractions, provide a single point of guidance on spiritual matters, and use the power of law to guide right mindsets and lifestyles could achieve Ascendance of Ubertas faster and perhaps even the whole world. As a result, Ubertas' government is a unique fusion of styles, and the Orthodoxy has a powerful role in society.
Orthodoxy is given tax-exempt status, and in many cases, state funds and special constitutional rights. In some cases, because of its status, Orthodoxy is usually given preference in cases involving conflicting religious laws and customs. Despite this, all persons within Ubertas are free to practice their faith without repercussions, though other faiths do not have tax-exempt status. Under the Ubertasian constitution, the Synod may make no law infringing on the worship of other faiths, and in full tradition, the state must respect and love persons from other faiths. As a result, the state must not forcibly convert persons. Orthodox religious instruction is part of the education system, but taught in an informative sense to persons of differing faiths and an instructive sense to persons within the Orthodoxy. Worship and practices that result in harm and the diminishing of human rights, however, such as arranged marriages or cults, are strictly forbidden, and persons immigrating to Ubertas sometimes have to assimilate certain practices to abide by Ubertasian law.
Many of the autonomous regions and cities in Ubertas also have local customs and faiths. These are given respect and special status by the state to practice and be left uninfringed upon.
Despite its influential place in Ubertasian society, the Orthodoxy's tax-exempt and state faith status hinges upon a strict non-interference policy with the government of the Ecclesiastic Republic. The church may weigh on doctrine and matters of faith and society, but it cannot direct members of the cloth serving in government on how to vote. Thus, in practice, the Orthodoxy rarely comments on matters of political importance in Ubertasian society directly and thus leaves much of this up to the elected government itself. Orthodoxy, instead, plays a role in binding society culturally, providing care and social services, and education.
Politics
Government
Government and Politics of Ubertas
The Ecclesiastic Republic defines itself as a “liberal democratic republic whose law is guided by the Tradition of Orthodoxy and the teachings of the Universal Faith.” Contrary to popular belief, Ubertas is an ecclesiocracy; the religious leaders assume a role in the state, but do not claim that they are instruments of divine revelation. The clerical influence comes from cultural and historical reasons, but also because the post-Endymus leaders believed democracy needed a moral center and absolute truth to function. They foresaw the growing fragmentation and sought to create a system that utilized the dignities and freedoms inherent to the faith there to advise, and sanity to bedrock their republic.
Ubertas’ founders, sought to balance democracy, aristocracy, and dictatorship. Moreover, they sought to ensure that the Faith remained a guiding force for restraint and morality. As a result, the government was divided into three branches with separate and checked powers. Moreover, clerics and Church leaders have defined boundaries in the Ubertasian legal tradition and constitution. Namely, this is because the Ecclesial structures do not claim divine right. They restrain and limit the freedoms in democracy to ensure all can enjoy democracy (much like yelling fire in a crowd being wrong). Moreover, the legal system is clearly and constitutionally defined as "inspired and guided by" the Moonbeam and teachings of the Church. The Ubertasian legal system is a hybrid of Church teaching and Civil Law, with teaching more applied to the personal, civil, and sometimes economic spheres. In contrast, Civil Law applies to political, civil, non-Orthodoxy, and governmental conduct.
The Legislative Branch
The legislative branch, the National Synod, combines the aristocratic and democratic elements of a republic and blends them to produce harmony. Indeed, the name chosen, Synod, comes from a congress between the church and the faithful on important matters.
The upper house is the Ecclesiastical Senate, which acts as the more aristocratic and restrained body. All Orthodox and ordained men and women who have served the church for at least 5 years can run for the Senate. The Senate is meant to comprise sisters, priests, bishops, and the occasional cardinal of the church. Its role is meant to check the popular whims of the lower house of the Synod, and to ensure laws passed are in accordance with Orthodox teaching as much as possible, without eroding popular whim. Senators are limited to two consecutive 6-year terms, and one can only run again after the passage of two terms after their last term. The Senate age is capped at 70 to ensure mental acuity and to avoid corruption. The Senate is also apolitical, and parties are not permitted to field candidates or influence the Senate. In practice, however, candidates for debate often run alongside or with the support of candidates from parties electing members to the lower house of the legislature. They are not, however, allowed to register with any one party. As a result, Senators have the freedom to caucus with parties in the Assembly should they choose, but also vote according to conscience and break their alliances when needed. Senators are elected indirectly by joint sessions of the Provincial Synods, two from each Province of Ubertas, using a ranked ballot. Potential candidates are nominated with great input from the local electorate (appointees to the Senate are generally a factor in re-election at local levels). Senate elections are staggered so that half the chamber is elected at a time.
The lower house is the National Assembly of the Laity, whose members serve a four-year term and are limited to two consecutive terms. Similar to the Senate, one can serve again after 8 years (two terms) of their last term. The National Assembly is open to all citizens over the age of 25, regardless of faith, creed, or background. Its role is to represent the popular will of the people. For this reason, the Assembly is where the Premier, or the head of government, is drawn from. Likewise, the National Assembly also permits parties to run in its elections, much like continental Europe. All provincial and local legislatures follow the same structure as the National Synod. Elections to the National Assembly of the Laity are done using a mixed-member proportional representation d'Hondt method system. Citizens cast two ballots, a ranked choice seat to fill half the Assembly's seats for single-member districts and half filled by party lists using proportional representation. This ensures both districts and the national aggregate vote are accounted for.
Because of its democratic element, the National Assembly is generally where most bills are initiated. While the Ecclesiastic Senate may introduce bills, the rules for doing so are more stringent. This design was intentional, as the Senate is meant to temper what the Assembly creates. Thus, bills introduced in the Senate are put through more stringent rules and processes, which make it far more favorable for legislation to begin in the National Assembly.
Citizens can recall any elected officials to the National Assembly via a petition and popular recall vote. Likewise, petitions can be made for Ecclesiatic Senators by forcing their Provincial Senate to vote to recall. While the Provincial Ecclesial Senate can vote against recall, if more than 60% of persons in a province vote to remove the Senator, then the Provincial Senate's vote is overruled. They may also propose legislation via national referenda using a qualified voting majority; it must win a nationwide majority vote and a local majority vote half the provinces totaling >50% of the population.

The Executive Branch
The executive branch is comprised of the Presbyter and the Premier. The executive can be seen as the “dictator” or the individual(s) given powers to execute which actions in times of crisis and manage and enforce the laws of the legislature. The Presbyter serves as head of state and commander in chief for a twice, renewable five-year term. The Presbyter can be any citizen of the nation over the age of 35 who is a baptized and Confirmed Orthodox of at least 10 years. The Presbyter, is generally seen as the bridge between the ecclesiastical upper house and popular lower house. As a result, the Presbyter is meant to be a citizen with strong church ties and convictions.
The Presbyteriat is elected by a unique process called the National Electoral Convention, commonly called the Convention. The Convention comprises all citizens eligible to vote (all over the age of 18, regardless of creed or race) and the Ecclesiastic Electors (two individuals chosen by each provincial ecclesial upper house). In practice, most provinces select from a list of Provincial Ecclesiastic Senators, ordained persons, seminarians, and baptized Orthodoxites of voting age, all of whom must apply to be considered by a screening panel and then subject to wider vote by the chamber. To win the office, one must get a majority of the vote and a majority of the Popular vote, and a majority of votes from electors whose provinces together make up 50% or more of the population. This is referred to as a qualified voting majority. Electors from the same province can split their vote at times for instances where their province is very evenly divided on a candidate. Electors are required to vote according to their conscience, and their identities are kept secret until the Convention is over. In practice, Electors generally vote with a blend of personal conscience and an understanding of their province's preferences and the Elector's vote follows the popular vote for their Province. Similar to a conclave, the Electors are sequestered away a month before the Convention (with a court deciding if pertinent news is transmitted to them) until a result is declared. Generally, the only news they are given is information regarding polls in their Province.
The electors vote the day before the popular vote, and the result is kept hidden from the electors until the popular vote is counted and a result declared. During the Convention on Election Day, the citizens and Electors are insulated from one another. Both the popular vote and the Ecclesiastic vote are done using ranked choice voting. The votes are announced through the Rite of Election, where the outgoing/sitting Premier and Consul of the Senate preside over a joint session of the Synod with all candidates present. The Premier reads the vote tallies for the Popular Vote, and the Consul of the Senate reads aloud the results of the Ecclesiastic Vote. After the results are announced, the new Presbyter is sworn in by the Primate Justice of the Supreme Rota. The new Presbyter generally announces their Premier nomination in the coming days, though some have announced their selection during the Rite of Election.
In the event that there is a tie or the Ecclesiastic vote and popular vote contradict, there is a short campaign period, and then a second vote. If this too fails, the National Synod elects the Presbyter. A qualified voting majority via ranked ballots is held to determine the winner. This means a candidate requires a majority of votes in the Senate from Senators whose provinces equal 50% or more of the population, and a majority in the National Assembly. In the event this also fails, all candidates are no longer eligible to run until the next cycle, and new candidates must be solicited.
The Presbyter appoints the Premier, with the advice and consent of the Assembly of the Laity. The Premier is the head of government and has a flexible role depending on electoral results. During times where the Premier and Presbyter come from the same party, the Presbyter exercises more authority and the PM acts more akin to the immediate deputy to the Presbyter. During times of cohabitation, the Premier oversees domestic authorities such as the economy, transportation, healthcare, etc. and the Presbyter more oversees foreign affairs, trade, and defense. The Premier is usually from the majority party, though cohabitation or minority governments have occurred throughout the Ecclesiastic Republic. The Premier then appoints the National Curia, the government, and the various Prefects to head the different Dicasteries or departments of the government. Prefects are approved by the Senate by majority vote. The Premier serves as the popular voice in government, balanced by the democratic and aristocratic elements of the Presbyter, with appointments initiated by the popularly-derived PM and mediated by the more aristocratic Senate. The process ensures a stable, orderly, republican system.
In this system, the Premier is accountable to both the Presbyter and the Synod. Thus, a no-confidence vote in the Synod can trigger a government collapse or a decision by the Presbyter to hold elections. A 2/3rds vote in both chambers of the Synod can also force a snap election (though snap elections triggered by either party must be spaced out by 2 years).
The Archprohetship
Being a highly Orthodox nation, the Archprohetess naturally holds a significant role in the Ubertasian government. While largely ceremonial, the Ecclesiastic Constitution recognizes the authority of the Archprophetess of the Spiritual and Temporal. The Archprophetess is given authority to call the National Synod to a full meeting and preside over a joint session or address a joint Synod session. The Archprophetess, as the Archprophetess, can guide Orthodox Ubertasians on how to vote, how elected Senators should vote on a law, or if a Presbyter should veto. This power is strictly advisory and is, in theory, reserved for "immense and egregious" departures from Orthodox. In practice, this is never used. Its power is akin to the royal prerogative in some states. For the Primarchal Authority to be invoked, the Archprophetess initiates the action, and the Pontifical Commission in Talalunson must vote to approve it by unanimous consent. Even then, the Supreme Rota of Ubertas can also accept challenges to such an action and declare such decrees invalid, thereby overriding whatever decision or process it affected. To date, this has never been done aside from Archprophet Silphium allowing trade and limited contact through the Strait and Port of Ulmos, and Archprophetess Sophia XXIV when pushing for a vote to take down the Sacred Shield.
The Judiciary
The judicial branch is comprised of a hybrid system of ecclesiastic and civil courts. Ubertasian secular law is based in Civil Law, with great power delegated to the National Synod to proscribe crimes, punishments, and procedures. In contrast, many areas of spiritual, moral, and constitutional law follow Church Canon Law more. The judiciary is divided into Civil Courts appointed by the executive of the region and approved by the lower house of the region it covers, and Ecclesiastic Courts appointed by the executive and approved by the upper house of the region. The Civil courts are comprised of judges from the Laity, and handle all criminal cases, civil suits, etc. The Ecclesiastic Courts are comprised of ordained Orthodoxite, men and women, who are trained in canon law and other Orthodox doctrine. They must be Orthodox for at least 20 years, have been ordained for at least 10 years, and have both secular and Canon Law training. Ecclesiastic Courts look at legislation after passage by the legislature before being signed by the executive, for their jurisdiction to determine how they interact with Orthodox doctrine and the constitution. Ecclesiastic courts can also accept appeals for individuals who feel their constitutional rights are violated. As a result, Civil Courts generally interpret the law codes, and Ecclesiastic Courts serve as constitutional courts.
It is the judiciary's job to ensure that a law respects Church Doctrine and Canon Law, but also does not infringe upon the rights and freedoms of people in a secular manner or a highly disruptive way. For example, laws relating to limiting abortion are generally deemed constitutional as they involve another life and infringe upon those rights and freedoms. In the same vein, laws relating to freedom of worship and speech (despite The Orthodoxy's belief in the one true Trila) are protected under Ubertas' constitution. Another example is the right to marry same-sex couples or divorce in a civil court being legal, as it pertains to the two consenting adults, and would cause undue repression and undemocratic acts to be sustained. Things that would be struck down would involve capital punishment or tax-exempt status for faiths other than the UCC. At every level, there is another court that is only convened when there is reasonable cause for an issue to overlap with both domains. These High Rotas for the provinces and cities are comprised of 4 judges from the civil courts and 5 from the Ecclesiastic courts. The idea behind the system is to ensure that an equal measure of civil and democratic law is balanced against church doctrine, and to provide a medium for reconciliation when the two spheres overlap.
The highest civil court is called the National High Court of Justice, and the highest constitutional court is called the High Ecclesiastic Collegium. At the national level is the Supreme Rota, which is made of four ordained persons eligible to serve on the High Collegium and four laypersons eligible to serve on the High Court. The final member is the Primate Justice, who must be an ordained citizen who fulfills the qualifications to sit on the High Ecclesiastic Collegium. All Lay members of the Supreme Rota must be approved by a majority in the National Assembly, whereas Ecclesiastic nominees to the Rota must be approved by the Senate. All appointees are nominated by the Presbyter. This is the highest court of appeal in Ubertas and can decide at its discretion to take up cases. The Supreme Rota has the sole authority to enact Judicial Review, and upholds the Constitution's mandate of a "democratic republic whose law is guided by the Tradition of the Orthodoxy Church and the Word of Trila." The National Synod may change the laws following rulings, but ultimately, the interpretation of the Constitution rests with the Supreme Rota.
Foreign Relations and Military
Ubertas is a proud member nation of Horizon. Ubertas is also a member of the World Assembly. Although not as influential in this respect, the nation regularly votes and uses its position to push for human rights and Orthodox Social Teaching worldwide.
Ubertas' military, the Sacred Orders of Ubertasian Defense, is quite large for a small nation, and 2-year service is compulsory for all adults; however, the country is internationally recognized for its use of pacifism and diplomacy in place of violent action. The official position of Ubertas is that all citizens should always be ready to defend the homeland in case of emergency, as well as have the capacbility to assist one another in times of local need. The military has five main branches: the Ubertasian Teutonic Knights (army), the Ubertasian Crusader Forces (amphibious unit), the Order of St. Brendan (Navy), the Ubertasian Air Angels (Air Force), and the Order of the Firament (Space Force). The armed forces are given training in both religious instruction and military matters. The Sacred Orders of Defense are generally instructed on conflict resolution, peacemaking, and diplomacy, as well as fighting. They are taught to help people of all creeds and races as Endymus did, and to defend the homeland if attacked. As a result, the Sacred Orders are some of the largest contributors to the WA Peacemaker forces.
All persons within Ubertas can either serve in the military or in their local Public Safety Bureau (specialized law enforcement that works alongside the Sacred Orders to promote community safety) for their two-year service. Following their completion, they can either remain in the military or the PSB or return to civilian life. Upon a return to civilian life, all citizens are immediately placed into what is known as the Order of Knights Hospitaller (medical/engineering unit/national guard unit), which is the national community militia network of Ubertas. The Knights Hospitaller serves to ensure the safety of communities in the event of national emergency and defense, but normally act to hold community safety drills, help out during natural disasters and major catastrophes, and act as auxiliary support for local community organizations. Furthermore, the Knights Hospitaller can be deployed into active combat by the government should the need arise in wartime or a time of great national emergency. Persons can either be active Knights Hospitaller members and put nearly full-time into the organization, or they can remain standby members (the most common scenario). All citizens in the Knights Hospitaller are required to report every two years for a basic training test to ensure they still have the necessary skills retained from conscription and to aid their community. Following this, they are put through re-training for a certain number of months depending on their results. The purpose of the Knights Hospitaller is "to ensure the presence of citizens capable of springing into action to defend themselves, their friends, and the homeland in time of need."

The Ubertasian economy mainly consists of the Technologies and agriculture industry, as the nation is one of the most scientifically advanced countries in the world. Ubertas also has a very prominent role in the clean energy sector, supplying completely green power to many nearby nations. The nation also has a major influence on the fish farming and book publishing industries. Much of the nation’s industry is automated due to the vast amount of scientific advancement Ubertas fosters, giving much of the populace time to enjoy life and experience the world. The nation is notable for its high level of healthcare and universal basic income.
The Ubertasian economy is built around the economic views of
Orthodox Social Teaching, specifically the principles of communitarianism and distributism. Ubertas rejects communism and socialism, as it is a system inherently built upon an atheistic lack of morals, which fuels greed for what others rightfully have worked for and pride of man putting a state or party above their own Trila-given works and Trila Themself. Instead, Ubertas under the Ecclesiastic Republic follows the economic doctrines first put forth by Archprohet Leo XIII in his Encyclical: Rerum Novarum.
Ubertas emphasizes communitarianism, or the idea that communities, family structures, and local communities and governments should be the basis of society. The Church and the community provide both basic economic assistance and the moral and cultural foundations of the nation. To that end, the Ubertasian tax system is created to highly incentivize charity and donations to the poor and reward those with wealth who donate/tithe to the Church. The Churches in local areas then provide it to families through food pantries or to Church hospitals to administer healthcare to those who do not work. They also help to distribute Universal Basic Income and educational/vocational services. Communitarianist/distributist economics can be seen as a partial form of economic nationalism and state capitalism. State-Staked Enterprises National Champions exist, called Key Security Enterprises (KSEs), which are companies the nation either has a large or majority stake in or has special arrangements with. These represent key supply chain components or industries vital to the national defense and employment.
Private industry is enshrined as a right in the Ubertasian Constitution; however, the economic and tax system of Ubertas prioritizes cooperatives or some level of payment to workers in some stock of the company. The exact percentage of cooperative or worker ownership depends on the tax code or industry, which sometimes varies with administrations. All Key Security Enterprises are cooperatives, meaning that both executives and workers have stakes in the company and run it in a more collective fashion. The government also breaks up businesses of a certain size, or mandates that they become cooperatives/pay in some amount of shares. Certain industries that are key to the public good, like healthcare, are mandated to be Nonprofit organizations.
The widespread distributist economics of Ubertas, which seeks to make as many people as possible property owners, also manifests at collective bargaining at all levels of society. At all levels, governments have a Cooperative Synod, which comprises key industries and banks (including KSEs) for that political jurisdiction, from labor and capital, to coordinate with the government to promote balance between workers' rights and profit, and also national interests. In this way, the government can also provide forecasting, targeting, and some indicative planning (see
dirigisme). Depending on national needs and administrations, this generally goes back and forth between coordinating consumer needs and profit. This also results in privatization in certain cases of KSEs and vice versa.
Healthcare and Social Services
Ubertas has a universal healthcare system, where all citizens can access some form of healthcare or welfare. It borrows from the Swiss system, with the healthcare budget spent toward tax breaks and subsidies to healthcare entities, which are all mandated to be nonprofits, have state stakeholders, or be cooperatives. Companies that grow too large are generally broken up under antitrust laws. The system allows for competing healthcare companies and entities, which are bound to give some basic plan to all who apply and obtain. The basic plan can be forfitted in favor of private plans, which higher-paid persons can choose to opt into. Above a certain income (generally the top 10% earners), citizens may relinquish their health insurance in favor of out-of-pocket, and deduct half of what would go into the healthcare system from their taxes.
Healthcare in Ubertas is guaranteed and mandated for all persons, but how a person accesses it differs based on dependency and employment status. Getting healthcare in Ubertas via a basic plan from a healthcare company is generally tied to employment or dependency status, with the Church's and Church Hospitals filling in the gaps in care for non-taxpayers. All Ubertasians below the age of 26 may remain on their parents' basic health plan, after which they must prove work status at their local Parish or Dicastry of Health office.
Aside from health coverage, all citizens with or without employment are given a Universal Basic Income. Despite this, unemployed and able-bodied persons are mandated to receive some form of coverage. Those who seek health coverage without insurance may pay out of pocket using UBI. If they do not do so, they are automatically enrolled in insurance via a program provided by local Parishes or Church hospitals. Given their tax-exempt status and special financial privileges, Parishes, the Church, and local Orthodox Charities and hospitals fill the role of administering aid and healthcare to such persons until they can get back on their feet. As a result, the Ubertasian healthcare system is effectively universal.
The Orthodox Conference of Bishops and Orthodox Archprohet mandate that the Orthodoxy must provide healthcare to those unable to access it traditionally. Thus, all persons who ask shall receive from the Orthodoxy (as the scriptural verses dictate). Hospitals and clinics run by Caritas Ubertas, the charity arm of the Orthodox, provide regular and emergency healthcare to those who need it. These services do not discriminate against gender, politics, ideology, sexuality, or race as mandated by the Ubertasian Law and Orthodoxy Edict. While care such as gender affirming care, abortion, and euthanasia are not provided, other healthcare services are provided in full without discrimination. Church healthcare services also often provide job training, education, and trade school services to persons who receive their care and have a high rate of successfully reintegrating many unhoused and out-of-work persons. The same system and care is given to former criminals in the justice system, which accounts for Ubertas' low levels of crime and high degree of criminal rehabilitation.
Ubertas is a very devout and friendly culture, with Orthodox values of loving thy neighbor and living with freedom but restraint, a pervasive sentiment. Communities, parishes, and the family are generally seen as the foundations of society. Ubertasians believe in a blend of social God-willed responsibility to the common good, coupled with competition and the sentiment that 'iron sharpens iron.' As a result, charity and tithing in households are very common, which goes to supplant the healthcare and social safety net. In the spirit of Pope Leo XIII's Rerum Novarum, Ubertasians believe in markets and capitalism as a system, but also support collective bargaining, some taxes, cooperative businesses, and charity as the predominant method of helping the disenfranchised.
Ubertaisan law and culture are not repressive or inherently dogmatic, as one might think. While morality guides law and moralism can be seen as a legal tradition in Ubertas, constitutionality and civil rights have historically remained the paramount trend in Ubertasian lawmaking. The Orthodoxy is the state religion, and indeed some offices are reserved for members of the Church only, but all can freely worship and abide by their faiths, and Ubertasian law cannot ever contradict/restrict this. This highlights the balance between civil society and ecclesial restraint in the nation. Ubertas, contrary to popular belief, is not a theocracy. The Ecclesial structures in government provide humanism, spirituality, and restraint to government, while not outright controlling it or claiming divine authority over it. The ERU Constitution mandates that the free peoples of Ubertas choose to give up part of their natural rights to the Ecclesial structures, and said Ecclesial structures owe their civil power and authority to the Constitution and not God.
Ubertasians are generally very kind and empathetic. They tend to shy away from very explicit entertainment, though foreign media and entertainment have become popular with a growing number of youth. Generally, the population has a high level of turnout in elections and a high level of spirituality. This translates to a very high population growth rate, strong communities, both rural and local, and a very communal mindset rooted in charity. Ubertasians are also very fond of charity as a practice, with many households donating either to the Church or the UBI/Healthcare fund.

Ubertas' major STEM and Seminary school
Education in Ubertas is guaranteed for every citizen until High School, and allows Ubertasians to pursue their interests and allocate them into different educational areas based on aptitude and interest. Students in secondary school are sent to either technical, arts, liberal arts, or STEM schools, where they're either prepared for the workforce or higher education. Students who desire higher education undergo the selection and application process, where they are allocated to different institutions based on ability, passion, field, and talent. From there on, they enter the workforce. Outside that, higher education is free but only for those able to pass a proficiency exam. The exam is generally prepared for on STEM tracks or in STEM secondary schools. Trade jobs and other forms of non-academic labor are supported by Ubertasian society, with generally half of students going either to college or trade school after graduation. Generally, students are instilled with a great deal of spirituality and civic virtue at a young age. Ubertasian education mandates the teaching of the Catholic faith in schools, though non-Catholic students from other faiths may opt out. For older high-school and university-level students, classes on general theology and world religions may also be taught. Science is not shied from in Ubertas, and the nation champions science, art, and philosophy. Following in the footsteps of Thomas Aquinas, Albertus Magnus, Augustin, and Georges Lemaître, students in Ubertas undergo some of the most rigorous and acclaimed science, mathematics, and literacy training and have some of the highest scores.
The high degree of technological advancement in the Ecclesiastic Republic is used not only to automate industry whenever possible, but to make life much easier overall. This is done with the idea that humans are meant to benefit from automation, but not be displaced by it. Heeding the current Archprohet's words, much of the automation is done in tandem with a universal basic income and ensuring human workers can do their jobs more efficiently. It is also used to assist marginalized persons to learn skills necessary for manufacturing and trade jobs. That being said, sectors where there is little interest, particularly manufacturing, are slowly being replaced by 'dark' automated factories. All forms of transportation are completely solar and/or electrically powered. The nation has a vast network of maglev bullet trains and buses that can take people to where they need to go in a safe, clean, and efficient manner. The Ubertas is ranked in the top 5% of the nation in the world for the most complex and advanced public transportation systems. Cities across the nation follow a comprehensive national recycling plan and are designed to have a minimal environmental impact.
