The Night's Watch Outpost of Torches is a titanic, safe nation, ruled by Leader with an even hand, and remarkable for its burgeoning Crow population. The hard-working population of 18.937 billion Torchesians have some civil rights, but not too many, enjoy the freedom to spend their money however they like, to a point, and take part in free and open elections, although not too often.

The large government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Spirituality. The average income tax rate is 46.0%, but much higher for the wealthy.

The Torchesian economy, worth 624 trillion Crowns a year, is quite specialized and led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, and Trout Farming. Average income is 33,001 Crowns, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.3 times as much as the poorest.

A major religion has been named as Torches's national religion and Leader has just been declared ruler of Torches in an international press conference. Crime is well under control, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Torches's national animal is the Crow, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is a major religion.

Torches is ranked 136,080^th in the world and 7,398^th in Balder for Nicest Citizens, with 12 average smiles per day.
