The large but sluggish shadow economy, worth 186 trillion regions a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a slick, highly efficient black market in Arms Manufacturing, Basket Weaving, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Cheese Exports. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Homes have been banned from having any more than one wheel, the country's famous rainforests are being bulldozed by the mining industry, citizens are barcoded to keep track of their movements, and Harry Potter books are banned. Crime is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. The Shadows's national animal is the robot, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.
