The Republic of Swerdia is a mammoth, environmentally stunning nation, notable for its daily referendums and irreverence towards religion. The compassionate, hard-working, democratic population of 6.75 billion Swerdians enjoy a sensible mix of personal and economic freedoms, while the political process is open and the people's right to vote held sacrosanct.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Education, Welfare, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Grilas. The average income tax rate is 21.1%.

The Swerdian economy, worth 308 trillion Swerdons a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Book Publishing industry, with major contributions from Tourism, Information Technology, and Uranium Mining. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 45,771 Swerdons, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.3 times as much as the poorest.

A favorite "life hack" for gap year backpackers is to pretend to be homeless for government handouts, motorists must pay to enter inner-cities during peak hours, the nation has nearly as many history museums as Swerdians, and popular cartoon characters frequently appear in government-sponsored PSAs reminding students to say no to drugs. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown. Swerdia's national animal is the eagle, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Swerdia is ranked 35,746^th in the world and 8^th in Regionless for Largest Publishing Industry, scoring 5,961.07 on the Bella Potter Productivity e-Index.
