The Armed Republic of Stenio is a mammoth, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape and absence of drug laws. The hard-working, democratic, devout population of 7.966 billion Stenioans hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The tiny, liberal, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Spirituality. The average income tax rate is 8.5%.

The large but inefficient Stenioan economy, worth 317 trillion kronor a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Automobile Manufacturing industry, with major contributions from Pizza Delivery, Arms Manufacturing, and Basket Weaving. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 39,900 kronor, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.1 times as much as the poorest.

The latest Harry Potter book is a bestseller, the tenet of free speech is held dear, no one is quite sure what many government officials look like, and citizens are enjoying a recent large cut in taxes. Crime is well under control. Stenio's national animal is the dove, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to toxic air pollution.

Stenio is ranked 96,643^rd in the world and 1^st in The Anarnkhos Archipelago for Highest Unexpected Death Rate, scoring 34.3 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
