The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless population of 17.551 billion Zeons are kept under strict control by the oppressive government, which measures its success by the nation's GDP and refers to individual citizens as "human resources."

The medium-sized, corrupt, moralistic, well-organized government is effectively ruled by the Department of Defense, with Law & Order also on the agenda, while International Aid and Welfare aren't funded at all. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Zum City. The income tax rate is 100%.

The frighteningly efficient Zeonic economy, worth an astonishing 11,611 trillion Zeon credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is an enormous, deeply entrenched, broadly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing and Information Technology. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Colonial subjects have Zeonic culture shoved down their throats, bombs make good ploughs, Dogman-branded weapons are all the rage in the militaristic comic-book community, and children are often punished for the sins of the fathers. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a capable police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Side 3's national animal is the eagle, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.
