The compassionate, cynical, humorless, devout population of 3.495 billion workers are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The medium-sized, corrupt government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Education. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of StoreCity. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 69.1%.

The frighteningly efficient Corporate economy, worth 571 trillion credits a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. However, for those in the know, there is a large, well-organized, broadly diversified black market in Arms Manufacturing, Information Technology, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Woodchip Exports. The private sector mostly consists of enterprising ten-year-olds selling lemonade on the sidewalk, but the government is looking at stamping this out. Average income is an impressive 163,483 credits, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 585,914 per year while the poor average 32,714, a ratio of 17.9 to 1.

Military barracks resemble five-star hotels, citizens are encouraged to report friends, family members or co-workers who seem depressed to the government for "counselling", street crime is on the rise as police officers spend most of their time in prisons, and old folks reminisce about the last time someone was acquitted of a crime. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a well-funded police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare.
