The Kingdom of Santa Pace is a great, safe nation, renowned for its stunning landscapes, irreverence towards religion, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, democratic population of 454 million Santa Paceans love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

The enormous, socially-minded government juggles the competing demands of Education, Administration, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Ulula. The average income tax rate is 87.2%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Santa Pacean economy, worth 130 trillion Lire a year, is led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Book Publishing, Tourism, and Basket Weaving. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 113,595 Lire, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to a strong and capable police force as well as progressive, and inclusive social policies in education and welfare. Santa Pace's national animal is the Owl, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies.

Etymology

Santa Pace is Italian for Sacred Peace and highlights the nation's peaceful way of life. The people of Santa Pace are called Santa Paceans in English, Santa Pacensi in Italian or Santa Paciences in Spanish (all demonyms in plural). In regional tribal languages, people usually refer to themselves as 'inhabitants of Santa Pace'.

History

Santa Pace is a small island kingdom. For centuries the island was populated by civilised tribes which were distributed all over the country's beautiful tropical landscapes. The people of Santa Pace used to live a peaceful and simple life, largely isolated from the rest of the world. Internally, most tribes had active diplomatic and trade relations with each other, but they never felt the necessity to come together and form one common nation.

It was only recently that the leaders of the tribes came together to discuss the island's future. Over the course of several of these conferences, they eventually agreed that Santa Pace could only be safe if they all stood united. This marked the birth of one single country encompassing all the different cultures and traditions, that would be able to protect the island's fragile ecosystem and promote its interests amidst growing concern caused by international conflicts, imperialism and climate change.

Today and for the future, The Kingdom of Santa Pace is commited to defending its core values which include environmental sustainability, social welfare and equality, a fair economic model, and - as its motto prescribes - peace and justice.

Government

The Kingdom of Santa Pace has a strong government, which guides and protects the nation's interests. Among its top priorities are peaceful international cooperation, social welfare, environmental preservation, education, healthcare, equal rights for all citizens and maintaining law & order.

The government consists of the Santa Pacean Prime Minister, along with his cabinet, which currently consists of 15 ministers. Major decisions are taken at the regular cabinet meetings, presided over by the Prime Minister and His Majesty The King of Santa Pace.
Contrary to many modern-day monarchies, the King of Santa Pace has the right to veto decisions and can himself pass laws and decrees. He is, however, obligated to listen to the Prime Minister and his cabinet, and needs to justify every decision that goes against the cabinet's proposals.

Economy

The frighteningly efficient Santa Pacean economy, worth 130 trillion Lire a year, is led by the Information Technology industry, with major contributions from Book Publishing, Tourism, and Basket Weaving. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 113,595 Lire, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Culture

Santa Pacean culture is characterised by the way people treat nature and each other. In Santa Pace issues such as the protection and preservation of the island's diverse ecosystem or equal rights for all citizens are enshrined in the constitution. People are generally very friendly and especially welcoming to foreigners who appreciate and respect the island's unique heritage.
Apart from nature, Santa Paceans enjoy spending time with their friends and families, and regurarly host events with traditional music and delicious food. Santa Pace's cuisine is quite similar to the Mediterranean, but adds some of its own exotic fruits and herbs.

The Kingdom of Santa Pace is a strictly secular nation, resulting in a total ban of religion from all political and governmental affairs. Instead, leaders are required to base their decisions on rational argumentation and scientific evidence.

Since disagreements are settled through (sometimes heated) debates, violence is generally regarded as unacceptable. It is the official stance of The Government of Santa Pace and His Majesty The King of Santa Pace that violent behaviour can only be justified in a context of self-defense. The judicial definition thereof does not leave a margin of interpretation, which ensures that violence will always be used as 'ultima ratio'. This holds true both for internal and external affairs.

To strengthen social cohesion and civilised behaviour, civic education is mandatory in all of Santa Pace's public education and rehabilitational institutions.

While religions do not play an important role in people's everyday lives, Santa Paceans do have an intimate relationship with the island in all her beauty, which is often seen as a source of spirituality.

The Kingdom of Santa Pace has English, Italian and Spanish as its three official languages, though all of the tribal languages (including sign languages) are officially recognised as equivalent and may be used equally in all of their respective regions.

Infrastructure

Santa Pace is a global leader in infrastructure. Every city on the island is easily reachable by car or public transport. There are ports in each major coastal city, and numerous airports in every Santa Pacean region, from which travellers can continue their journey by car, bus, or train.

It is Santa Pace's utmost priority to combine world-leading infrastructure with environmental sustainability. Therefore, all cars of the kingdom's driving vehicles are 100% electric (powered by renewable energy sources), and significant investments are made in the research of new technologies, which will allow the nation to be completely emission-free by 2025. In this context, Santa Pace has become a pioneer country in zero emission aviation.

The Kingdom of Santa Pace recently ensured complete cell phone network coverage in a bid to reduce the number of deaths resulting from people getting lost in the islands vast natural reserves. Fast internet has become a right for every Santa Pacean citizen.

Energy
As previously mentioned, The Kingdom of Santa Pace believes that only eco-friendly energy sources can secure the nation's existence among growing concerns about climate change. For this reason, all Santa Pacean energy comes from 100% renewable energy sources, with the main contributions deriving from solar and wind energy (42% and 29% respectively). There are huge solar panel plantations in the nation's vast and sunny fields in the south, and some of the largest off-shore wind farms in the world. Building regulations require that every new building in Santa Pace must be equipped with solar panels.
In addition, another 15% of Santa Pace's energy supply consists of hydro and tidal energy. The remaining 14% come from biofuel and geothermal energy sources.
