The Republic of Ragusia is a mammoth, efficient nation, notable for its barren, inhospitable landscape. The hard-nosed, hard-working, democratic population of 7.076 billion Ragusians are either ruled by a sleek, efficient government or a conglomerate of multinational corporations; it's difficult to tell which.

The minute, pro-business government, or what there is of one, juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Welfare. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 5.1%.

The thriving Ragusian economy, worth 487 trillion ducats a year, is driven almost entirely by the private sector, which is broadly diversified and led by the Basket Weaving industry, with major contributions from Information Technology, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Cheese Exports. Average income is 68,957 ducats, but there is a significant disparity between incomes, with the richest 10% of citizens earning 244,089 per year while the poor average 14,066, a ratio of 17.4 to 1.

Crime is a problem, with the police force struggling against a lack of funding and a high mortality rate. Ragusia's national animal is the eagle, which can occasionally be seen dodging aircraft in the nation's cities.

Ragusia is ranked 239,969^th in the world and 3^rd in Ragusa for Nicest Citizens, with 10.55 average smiles per day.
