The Lacarian Colony of Macari is a titanic, efficient nation, ruled by Felix Solanzi with a fair hand, and notable for its irreverence towards religion, punitive income tax rates, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, democratic population of 14.7 billion Macarians hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The large, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Education, Healthcare, and Industry. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Celenia. The average income tax rate is 71.9%, and even higher for the wealthy.

The frighteningly efficient Macarian economy, worth a remarkable 1,670 trillion Neptons a year, is fairly diversified and led by the Information Technology industry, with significant contributions from Tourism, Book Publishing, and Door-to-door Insurance Sales. State-owned companies are common. Average income is an impressive 113,661 Neptons, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 2.6 times as much as the poorest.

Schoolchildren are taught to boo and hiss at Felix Solanzi's name, a ban on robots in disguise has transformed the entertainment industry, signs at the border tell international drivers where they can put their cars, and the highest sporting award is the Grail of Tears. Crime, especially youth-related, is moderate, probably because of the absence of a police force. Macari's national animal is the Red Panda, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its national religion is Agnosticism.

Macari is ranked 10,841^st in the world and 9^th in Sancturia for Largest Welfare Programs, scoring 4,377.66 on the Safety Net Mesh Density Rating.
