The Republic of Hilma is a colossal, pleasant nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape and ritual sacrifices. The hard-nosed, hard-working population of 4.727 billion Hilmen are highly moralistic and fiercely conservative, in the sense that they tend to believe most things should be outlawed. People who have good jobs and work quietly at them are lauded; others are viewed with suspicion.

The medium-sized government juggles the competing demands of Healthcare, Education, and Law & Order. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 18.4%.

The strong Hilman economy, worth 255 trillion Delta Eagles a year, is dominated by the Gambling industry, with significant contributions from Uranium Mining, Retail, and Furniture Restoration. Average income is 54,124 Delta Eagles, with the richest citizens earning 6.1 times as much as the poorest.

A new guerrilla marketing campaign for tap water involves government agents spraying random citizens with hose water, protests are illegal, forty-year-old men are asked for their ID before watching the latest pony cartoon movies, and modelling agencies send their clients to work in nursing homes. Crime is moderate. Hilma's national animal is the Kitsune, which teeters on the brink of extinction due to widespread deforestation.

Hilma is ranked 221,922^nd in the world and 1^st in Calamarion for Highest Unexpected Death Rate, scoring 30.05 on the Bus Surprisal Index.
