The Principality of Halayhay is a huge, socially progressive nation, renowned for its barren, inhospitable landscape and compulsory military service. The hard-working, democratic population of 661 million Halayhayians hold their civil and political rights very dear, although the wealthy and those in business tend to be viewed with suspicion.

The tiny government juggles the competing demands of Welfare, Education, and Defense. Citizens pay a flat income tax of 8.6%.

The Halayhayian economy, worth 30.8 trillion pesos a year, is broadly diversified and led by the Furniture Restoration industry, with major contributions from Basket Weaving, Beef-Based Agriculture, and Book Publishing. Average income is 46,666 pesos, with the richest citizens earning 5.9 times as much as the poorest.

Crime is moderate, probably because of the absence of a police force. Halayhay's national animal is the tiger, which can occasionally be seen sifting through garbage in the nation's cities.

Halayhay is ranked 324,422^nd in the world and 8^th in Tanza for Most Eco-Friendly Governments, scoring -7.07 on the Dolphin Recycling Awareness Index.
