The Confederation of Conioste is a colossal, orderly nation, ruled by Supreme Ruler Aiku with an iron fist, and remarkable for its compulsory military service, hatred of cheese, and restrictive gun laws. The hard-nosed, cynical, humorless, devout population of 2.923 billion Coniosteans are ruled without fear or favor by a psychotic dictator, who outlaws just about everything and refers to the populace as "my little playthings."

The enormous, corrupt, moralistic, socially-minded, well-organized government juggles the competing demands of Defense, Law & Order, and Administration. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Nova Abroy. The average income tax rate is 87.5%.

The large but underdeveloped Coniostean economy, worth 180 trillion Marks a year, is quite specialized and mostly made up of the Arms Manufacturing industry. Black market activity is rampant. State-owned companies are reasonably common. Average income is 61,563 Marks, and evenly distributed, with the richest citizens earning only 3.3 times as much as the poorest.

Farmers have taken to hunting billionaires who encroach on their land, ordinary soldiers trade rumors about the top secret "Death From Above" project, pushy mums tell their kids to be doctors and engineers but steer them away from being penniless lawyers, and rural Coniosteans stare in awe at the bright lights of the big cities. Crime, especially youth-related, is totally unknown, thanks to the all-pervasive police force and progressive social policies in education and welfare. Conioste's national animal is the Golden Eagle, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is The Solar Ascendancy.

Conioste is ranked 314,373rd in the world and 3rd in The Junkyard for Most Rebellious Youth, scoring -42 on the Stark-Dean Displacement Index.
