The Land Under Wave of Azyl is a titanic, efficient nation, ruled by What's Needed and Right with a fair hand, and notable for its keen interest in outer space, daily referendums, and devotion to social welfare. The compassionate, democratic, cheerful population of 12.888 billion Witches are free to do what they want with their own bodies, and vote for whomever they like in elections; if they go into business, however, they are regulated to within an inch of their lives.

The enormous, liberal, socially-minded, outspoken government juggles the competing demands of Environment, Education, and Welfare. It meets to discuss matters of state in the capital city of Witchy Earthships-Treecity Sanctuary. The average income tax rate is 94.4%.

The frighteningly efficient Witchy economy, worth a remarkable 1,363 trillion Octarine Joys a year, is driven entirely by a combination of government and state-owned industry, with private enterprise illegal. The industrial sector, which is highly specialized, is led by the Tourism industry, with significant contributions from Basket Weaving, Book Publishing, and Information Technology. Average income is an impressive 105,792 Octarine Joys, and distributed extremely evenly, with practically no difference between the richest and poorest citizens.

Babies are a small but significant export, tourists are forbidden to enter Native Witchy lands, the new intercity submarine SSN Flying Hedgehog Warrior instills terror in claustrophobic travellers, and Flying Hedgehog is one of the most popular forenames in Azyl. Crime is totally unknown. Azyl's national animal is the flying hedgehog, which soars majestically through the nation's famously clear skies, and its national religion is the First Song.

Azyl is ranked 312,489^th in the world and 2^nd in Deliciousness for Largest Arms Manufacturing Sector, scoring -23.37 on the Charon Conveyancy Index.
