Background: On January 2nd, 2021, The Republic of Venice shall hold elections to inaugurate the founding members of the Consiglio dei Pregadi — the Venetian Senate. Four candidates have formally declared for these seats, and for your ease of research we have compiled their respective manifestos below:

Platform:

To the nations of Venice,

I am Oíran, acting World Delegate and one of the first forty nations to join Venice. I am declaring my candidacy for the Consiglio.

I have not been a member of NationStates for a long time, but I am very active on this site and the Discord server. While I may be inexperienced, I have been put in leadership positions before with my church, school, and other events.

Venice is still a new region and still is growing. Members of the region, especially those in the Consiglio and important leadership positions, must grow along with it.

Candidate: Fjallshima

Greetings, my fellow Venetians.

I am Fjallshima or as known on Discord, Ervald. I was one of the first 40 nations to join this region on December 10th, 2020. I am very excited to be here, I genuinely believe Venice has endless potential. On that note, I am declaring my candidacy for the Consiglio. I want to help make that dream come true as one of your senators, in the Consiglio. I have been in numerous legislatures across NationStates, especially in the Senate for several terms in Europeia. So, I am absolutely capable to listen to the people, thoroughly discuss our laws, and to be a check on the executive.

But enough talk about experience, I will tell you what my priorities are.

I am very glad to have our constitution but there are laws out there that we dearly need that we do not have yet. We do not have any sort of bill yet protecting our rights and liberties. That is absolutely crucial before we start delving into what is right or wrong when formulating our judicial system.

We do not have an elections act yet. I trust our founder to conduct our elections fairly with consistent rules but that is not sustainable. We need to codify our standing period, what are the qualifications to run, and even our voting methods. First past the post voting system isn't always the best system for every election.

We need to also start drafting our judicial legislation, specifically our criminal code and judicature act. From my experience, judicial cases do not happen often in NationStates but when they do, you would rather be safe than sorry before trying to prosecute someone without any laws or a judicature without entirely formalized procedures.

Those are my priorities as your senator. They are big bills that have to be drafted but it is better to start work on them sooner than later. I can't promise quick results on those bills but I can promise you I will be absolutely diligent and considerate every day on those bills as your senator by drawing upon my principles and experience. I hope with your vote, I can make your dreams for Venice come true as your senator. Thank you.

I am going to keep this quick. As one of the first 40 members of this great region, I would like to run as a senator, one who is laid back and listens to the people.

If I am senator I will:

- Keep things fair and balanced
- Not force an rules on to countries of Venice
- Not be toxic
- And shut up when I need to

As a small nation, I don't think I will win, but it is just for fun.

Hello, I am Tuandle and I would like to announce my candidacy for the consiglio.
I am a newer country in nationstates but I have had plenty of leadership experience at my school and with my troop. I am also a member of the WA and have been active in voting on resolutions.

As your senator I would like to help grow this region and help create it's first government. If elected my focus will be to help defend the region of Venice and create an effective court system.

Experience-

I have had plenty of leadership experience though my troop and my school. Through these positions I have gained skills in planning and have gained practice in communicated through speaking and writing. I am also a member of the WA and have been active in reading the resolutions and voting on them.

Positions-

My focus as your senator will be to increase the security of the region and to work to finish forming our region's government. I will also work to create a effective judicial system for the security of Venice.

Q:Is there certain legislation that you would try to pass as a senator?

A: I would pass legislation to help form our judicial system that will protect our rights and our constitution.Venice needs a criminal justice system to increase the security of our great region. I would also like to help form our government and grow the number of nations in Venice by forming a department that will be in charge of recruiting new nations into the region. Other legislation will be needed to defend the region of Venice.

Q:How will you evaluate the doge's supreme council appointments?

A: As a senator I will evaluate the supreme council appointments by how well the represent the region of Venice and by how much they know about the position and what they will be doing. I will also ask nominees about their experience in the region of Venice and in other regions, as well as other places. Another question I would ask supreme council nominees would be about their agenda in the position, about what they will do and how they will do it. I will also ask about how active they are on nationstates and in the region.

Q:How will you evaluate country's applications to join the Consiglio?

A: As a senator I would evaluate future senators be asking about what they will try to do and how they will accomplish it. Potential questions include what legislation would you want to pass and what would your focus be. I would also ask how they will evaluate supreme council nominees and future senate applications. I would also ask them how they help to increase the security of Venice.

Foreign Relations
As your senator I would like to increase our relations with other regions through an increase of treaties and by increasing diplomatic relations. We can do this though making treaties and communicating with governments of embassy regions. Also by beginning the exchange of diplomats with these regions. I would also like to increase our influence and activity in the WA, so we can be better represented on the world stage.
