I got your candidacy! There will be multiple candidates, not just, Oiran, so rather than just contrasting with her it might be good to come up with some policy ideas or share with us how you would plan to evaluate appointments or your approach to law-writing!

Republic of atlantis wrote:ATTENTION VENETIANS!! Hello, hello, hello! Excuse the bold and all-caps! Below are some FAQs surrounding our upcoming elections for the inaugural class of Senators in our Consiglio dei Pregadi. Please let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see MANY nations throw their hats into the ring. I will also pin this information in a dispatch so you don't have to scroll to find this RMB post later.

On behalf of the Republic of Venice, I am excited you are interested in seeking a seat on Venice's Consiglio dei Pregadi — or Venetian Senate.

Q: What is the Consiglio?

A: The Consiglio dei Pregadi is the single most powerful institution in Venice, providing a Democratic check on the power of the Doge. Members of the Consiglio are referred to as "Senators" and have the power to draft laws, approve all of the Doge's appointments, and contest actions from the Doge.

Q: So, what do I have to do exactly?

A: As a Senator, you will be responsible for approving all appointments made by the Doge, and writing laws for the betterment of Venice. You will also consider new applications for citizens to join the Consiglio.

Q: How do the elections work?

A: So, this is actually the one and only time that "elections" will happen for the Consiglio will happen in this manner. The Consiglio is designed to be a self-electing body, meaning that any citizen of the region who wants to join can — as long as the current Senators give the thumbs up.

For this election, limitless nations can declare their candidacy and after a week or so of campaigning we will have a vote on January 2nd. The top three vote-getters are our initial Senators.

Q: What if I lose this election? Can I apply to be a Senator after?

A: Yes! So if you aren't one of the three Senators elected to be the "initial three" you will still be able to apply for entrance in the Consiglio. You might have to wait a little bit though, as the Senators will have to determine what the application process will look like.

Q: What requirements are there to be a Senator?

A:

1. You must have a nation in the region.
2. You must commit to being active (logging on every other day, roughly -- though sh*t happens, we understand!)
3. You must be a member of our Discord server*

*The reason being, the Consiglio has many complex functions that will require creating channels in Discord to keep everything organized. It's just not possible to run everything on the RMB. If you'd prefer to stay off Discord, this requirement will NOT apply to Supreme Council jobs, so there's still plenty of ways to be involved.

Q: Okay! I want to run. What do I do?

A: Make a RMB post declaring your candidacy and tag Republic of atlantis so I can add you to the list. Your RMB post needs to have some kind of platform stating what you would do as a Senator. It doesn't need to be a novel, but give the voters some sense of what you'd do! You can also put your platform in a Factbook if you prefer.

Will the voting be for the whole of jan 2nd?

Also i think i have the mandela effect cause i swear to jupiter you said something about the first 80 nations not the first 40.

Hail to Venice!

Hail to Venice!

Hey! So the Council of Forty position was for the first 40 nations, but the first 80 nations (estimated) would get to participate in the interim government which is now coming to a close -- as we're about to elect our first actual government!

Fjallshima wrote:I just want to let everyone know that I can answer any questions or comments about my candidacy/platform for the Consiglio!

How would you evaluate appoints made by the Doge (me)? What kind of questions might you ask prospective Councilors I appoint?

What is stupid haha? Any questions I can answer for you? We're glad you're here!

Republic of atlantis wrote:

Thank you for the question. At the end of the day, I evaluate nominees not based on their position but rather on their qualifications, activity, passion, and agenda. I would only refuse to confirm a nominee based on the position if they were being nominated for an absolutely unneeded position, such as Councilor of Croissants. Otherwise, I am only evaluating an appointment on the person themselves, not the position.

The kind of questions I would ask prospective Councilors would be what is their experience whether in Venice or in other regions pertaining to the position they're being nominated for, how active have they been in Venice for how long especially relating to the position (aka, if you want to be Councilor of Foreign Affairs, how long have you been involved with the Council of Foreign Affairs?), and what is their agenda for that council. Obviously, these questions will change depending on the nominee especially based on how long they been in Venice and any potential issues with their activity levels or temperament.

Hello my fellow Venetians,

I am going to keep this quick.
As one of the first 40 members of this great region, I would like to run as a senator, one who is laid back and listens to the people.

If I am senator I will:

Keep things fair and balanced
Not force an rules on to countries of Venice
Not be toxic
And shut up when I need to

I hope you will choose me to be a senator.
As a small nation, I don't think I will win, but it is just for fun.

See you soon!

Great to see you throw your hat in the ring!!

One question, same as I asked Fjallshima: As a Senator, you will be responsible for evaluating my appointments to the Supreme Council and confirming them. How will you go about determining whether to vote AYE or NAY to one of my appointments?

Congrats to our hundredth nation!
