Ethnicity is more specific, like i'm ethnically irish and german, but my race is white.

there are several Asian countries with white populations. take Kazakhstan, or Georgia, or Russia, or the Philippines, all have a significant white population. in fact, the word "caucasian" which is a modern term for white comes from the Caucasus Mountain range IN ASIA

Yes I'm aware our modern views on race don't make much sense, but the average person uses words like African or European in a certain way and through the magic of culture that becomes the word's new meaning.
