I will definitely try watching them, and I'm already having some preliminary ideas that I think I like, not necessarily entirely geographical, that also tie into the culture some, like having cliffs to the northwest of the island with exposed cave systems early inhabitants used for shelter, spawning myths about a large tunneling beast that made the caves, and those early inhabitants later built houses into the rock, sort of like east African cultures, but those got abandoned after a rock slide caved in several of those houses, and they later re-established a home on the other side of the island, which is more of a valley. if you have any preliminary thoughts about this, I would like to hear it

Maybe the reason the caves collapsed was because the beast still resides deep within the long forgotten tunnels, and they had to abandon it.

Welcome to The North Pacific!

Welcome to The North Pacific (TNP)! You might be a new nation to the game or in TNP, and you don't really know what is going on or where to start. Or you may be an experienced member but have several questions regarding some of the activities going on. Whatever the case, we have put together this handbook that you can use to familiarize yourself with the game and TNP, and to make the most out of your time in NationStates (NS).

The handbook has a number of different sections. The index below will help you navigate them. If you have any questions not answered in this handbook, feel free to send a telegram to Delegate Kaschovia, Minister of Home Affairs Lionsroar, or any of the Gameside Advocates and Mentors. They will be glad to help! Additionally, we are always looking to improve this handbook, so let us now if you think something should be added or changed.

Onboarding Checklist

This section covers the very first items you should check off as a newcomer to the game and TNP.

  • Why you should be in TNP: Selecting a region for your nation is one of the most important decisions you will make in the game. We hope you will make TNP your home, and this link explains why. If you have already decided to stay here, that's great!

  • Join the regional forum: The forum is where most government and roleplay activities take place. Registering an account is very easy. You should get yourself an account so that you can check out what's going on and join in on the fun.

  • Join our regional chat: Our Discord server is where our members hang out and chat about the game and real life subjects. You can join and introduce yourself to our community. Additionally, if you have any questions, asking on Discord is the fastest way to get help.

  • Apply for citizenship: Citizenship is your ticket to TNP. As a citizen, you can vote to elect our Delegate and other government officials, hold them accountable, and even run for these positions yourself. All you need to apply is a nation in TNP and an account on the forum.

Ways to Get Involved

Now that you have cleared the basics, you must be looking for things to do. Below are some of the opportunities TNP offers.

  • Get involved in the government: There are many ways to get involved in the government straight away after joining TNP. You can write the regional laws in the Regional Assembly. You can take part in the day-to-day running of the region in the Executive Staff. Or, you can protect TNP at home and abroad in the North Pacific Army.

  • Get involved in the World Assembly: Joining the World Assembly (WA) is one of the best ways to empower your nation, especially in TNP. Thanks to our WA Development Program, as a WA member you can determine international laws, have one of the highest endorsement counts in the entire game, and even win awards!

  • Get involved in RolePlay: We have not one, but two vibrant RolePlay (RP) universes, Eras and Strangereal. Each comes with its own map, chronology, and physics laws. If you commit to being active in RP, you can claim a spot in either universe's map, and join others in weaving stories about your nation and its role in the world.

  • Get involved in trading cards: Our regional cards guild provides many resources you can take advantage of to increase the value of your deck, including several offerings of free cards. As a member of the guild, you can also participate in many other cards-related activities, including themed collections, pull events, and regular publications.

Regional Publications

Through our regional nation, The Northern Light, we post a number of regular regional publications. You can follow them to stay up to speed with what's going on in TNP.

  • The Northern Lights: Produced by the Ministry of Communications, this is our regional newspaper. It includes both general news and op-ed articles about various aspects of TNP and NS.

  • The North Star: Produced by the Ministry of Communications, The North Star informs TNPers of current internal matters and government activities.

  • The Roleplay Reel: Produced by the Ministry of Communications, The Roleplay Reel showcases roleplay works by members of TNP's two RP communities.

  • The Monthly Snapshot: Produced by the Cards Guild, The Monthly Snapshot includes news about trading cards.

  • Press Releases: Produced by the Ministry of Home Affairs, press releases focus on news about the Executive Government, elections, and other regional issues of general interest.

  • Regional Assembly Digest: Produced by the Speaker's Office, the digest focuses on news about the legislative and other business of the Regional Assembly.

  • Information for WA Voters: Produced by the Ministry of WA Affairs, IFVs provide vote recommendations and analysis about all resolutions that reach the floor of the General Assembly or Security Council.

  • Weekly Anthologies: Produced by the Gameside Advocates, this series highlights dispatches produced by TNP nations.

  • Northern Broadcasting Service: Produced by the Ministry of Radio, this is our very own regional radio station in which our broadcasters provide their insight into current events in TNP and Nationstates.

  • WADP Awards: Produced as part of the WADP, this monthly publication presents regional awards to nations that actively participate in the World Assembly.

  • Literary Awards: Produced by the Gameside Advocates, this monthly publication presents regional awards to nations that actively post on the regional RMB or publish dispatches.

  • The Vice Delegate's Weekly Update: Produced by the Vice Delegate, this weekly publication provides updates on the activities of the Security Council.

Other Useful Links

Below are miscellaneous resources useful for all nations.

  • Government index: Get to know your government by using this list of all government officials in TNP. If you have questions or suggestions about any aspect of the regional governance, feel free to send a telegram to the corresponding government official.

  • Law index: This is a compilation of all legal documents currently in force in TNP. This includes our Constitution and Bill of Rights, which form the basis of our government.

  • RMB Guidelines: Posting on the regional message board (RMB) is a great way to socialize and get to know other TNP nations. Just make sure to follow these guidelines.

  • World Assembly voting policy: Look here to learn how TNP's Delegate casts the regional vote on World Assembly resolutions, and how you can help determine that vote.

  • Embassy policy: If you are here as a diplomat from another region, please take a look at our policy for in-game and forum embassies.

  • Recruitment policy: If you are here to recruit for another region, please take a look at our policy on permissible and prohibited types of recruitment.

Important update: The Strangereal map has changed from TNP to region=saint_helene

Strangereal Roleplay Map

Very important points:

1. If you would like to stake a claim in for some land on the map then TG, Waupun Island, Minuda, Lungha.
2. If you make a post on the RMB asking to be put on the map, or put it in a factbook or dispatch, you will be ignored, please refrain from doing so.
3. Try your best to find out in advance WHERE you would like to claim, not just "can i join the map pls" or a vague "this rough area pls" *points at an entire continent* Get yourself Linkpaint.net, make a thing, show where you want it. Or at the very absolute least try to put in words exactly where, it's not that hard.
4. When you know where you want to be, stay there, don't ask carto if you can move. "B-b-but that spot is nicer and-" Should have thought of that in advance.

-

-

Claims must be:
1. Reasonable enough to be put onto the map. No beginner nation will be the size of Friently, or higher, for their claim. If you want more accurate claims and you have Paint.net, beginner claims have a limit of 40k pixels. Your secondary nation will have to be at 20k pixels or less. However a secondary cannot be claimed immediately upon joining the map.
2. Picky is good. Feel free to request changes to borders if you aren't happy with them.
3. This map's planet is the same size as Earth, so we won't be making the map any bigger. If Earth can fit 200 nations, so can this.
4. We are not changing or adding new territory to the map. Use the existing land more efficiently and we won't need any more.
5. Not on any body of water.
-
Map removal will occur when:
1. AFRP, or Away From RP (not RPing for 30 days, 20 days in the case of people on other RMB maps)
2. RMB RP Ban (if one clause states "therefore, the RMB Cartography Staff shall remove <nation> from the map")
3. Cease to Exist (when the nation dies in the 28th day. Exceptions apply.)
4. Moderator Sanctioned
5. RP posts are not up to standard (refrain from making posts that are just one sentence)

Maps

Map Version:406: What economic crisis?

Reminder: The alliance map is not handled by the carto team but by independent people who only work on it when they feel like it, this may cause the alliance map to be outdated, do not ask for it to be updated, it will be when a new version is finished.

Map 57

Overview

Welcome to the Pegasia, a new world as you may say that houses many ideologies and is home to two resident superpowers; the Imperial Federation(ping AGU and Tonga) and the Republic of Yingguo(Ping Krustevland). With the technology year being 1975, it is currently the cold war period presently being butted between the nations of what Yingguo considers as the "Free World" and the Imperial "Monarchist League" with many inbetweens such as Gayogohono/Overhadamine and Verisaw.

In this world, you decide how your nation acts, reacts and conducts itself on the world stage, so long as it follows our rules on the discord. The cold war rages on by the day, and the nuclear clock continues to roll as the few sit ontop of the many with their masses of power and strength. Come join us today, we need you to fight on the good fight - or your own fight, if you may.

STANDARDS OF REALISM
- No technology beyond 1976, anything beyond that has to be researched with every in real life day representing 3 months of roleplay research to the "First Flight" year.
- No utilizing weapons of mass destruction such as nuclear weapons. Chemical and biological warfare is allowed in defensive conditions(Offensive only if the other player agrees).
- No edgy roleplay posts, maintain the basic rules of the RMB. This would mean no genocides, no things such as re-enacting the holocaust and graphic purges.
- No loopholing, loopholing will be determined by the executives(Ping ESL, Me (AGU), Krustevland and Tonga) and if caught doing so will face OOC and potentially IC reparations
- No joke nations and godmoddy nations. This means you can't have your terrain entirely depend on hard to traverse land and you can only use 3-5% of your population in military.
- No instant defeat military posts. You have to roleplay the movement of your forces and them engaging the enemy before actually attacking or "defeating" them. Always ping opponents.

If you are interested in submitting a claim, be sure to contact the following nations:

-Truavania (For Pegasia)
-Noflag[/nation] (For Hollow Earth)
-The Islands of Tonga[/font]

*nations in either one of these types of alliances, can be in the other type of alliance, ie, a nation in a defence alliance can be in a economic alliance.
*Unions count as one nation, so if a defence/military alliance has a union that breaks up and there are more than 8 members(nations) in the alliance, its ok, as long as they dont bring in more people after the break up. note, if this is being exploited, removal of alliance and ban on joining alliances may occur.
*you can not be in an alliance of the same kind, ie, defence/military and economic

Defence/Military alliances

*Alliance member limit is 15 members

He did a collab with a Youtube channel Worldbuilding Notes, and while I haven't watched her, I know from that video that she deals in human culture. So she could have some interesting ideas there. I do think that what you came up with sounds both original and interesting.

Weeeest viiiiirginiaaaa wrote:this is still SR, and I would prefer a sense of realism. Besides, that I only want to deal with one disaster at a time.

Often myths are interpretations of events that cannot be explained. Of course realism is something to aim for, but what I said was a myth.

Resolution at Vote: Commend Honeydewistania
Vote Recommendation: For

Resolution Analysis
Overview
This proposal seeks to commend Honeydewistania for their laudable efforts across a variety of domains. To begin, this proposal discusses Honeydewistania's efforts in the World Assembly as author in the GA and SC, repeal author, and as mentor to other first-time World Assembly authors. Finally, this proposal highlights their contributions to the regional government of Mariner Trench and their exploits and skill as a member of the anti-fascist cause.

Recommendation
This proposal succinctly summarizes the large, and growing, list of accomplishments for a nation which has shown their skill and dedication in a variety of areas during their time on NationStates. Honeydewistania certainly has accomplished incredible feats, and their contributions to the respective communities they are a part of have not gone unnoticed. It can be said, truly, that a nation with the bona-fides of Honeydewistania is eminently commendable.

For these reasons, the Ministry of World Assembly Affairs recommends a vote For the Security Council resolution at vote, "Commend Honeydewistania".
