Welcome to the Sphere of Influence!

In an alternate world, the Cold War continues well into 2025. Against the Communist menace stands The United American Alliance and the Federation of O c e a n i a, two bastions of Western democracy.

Sphere of Influence is a late-MT PMT region based on an RP scenario in which the Cold War never ends, and where space-based colonies are common. With the rise of nuclear propulsion and tensions with the Soviet Union, the world stands on the brink of war.

Or maybe I'll just invade Venezuela.

"Yes, Mr. President. It will be a three days Special Military Operation!"

I mean, you don't necessarily need a USSR to do things. You can reasonably infer that they'd pursue X course of action in a particular situation, such as at least materially support socialist-aligned Venezuela (or Iran... or Panama...) from an American invasion.

Same goes for controlling OPFORs, since we want to maintain the status quo of a prolonged, if not eternal, cold war in the era of forever wars, just see yourself winning a battle on one day and losing strategically withdrawing from another the next? Or the battles you win, don't make a significant contribution towards a decisive victory? EDIT: a kind of sandbox RP if that’s the right term?

Maybe we should make a list of current ongoing (proxy) conflicts in SoI? That way we can explore opportunities for military RPs. I'd think we'd see Myanmar in civil war, maybe some sporadic fighting between Thailand and Cambodia, an insurgency in West Papua (supported by the Oceanians/the West?). Iran is socialist-aligned, but do they have a socialist government, or are the Islamists and the Ayatollah in charge? The latter would pave the way for terrorist proxies in the region like in OTL, but perhaps the USSR would prefer them not to outrage the neutral Arab League and lean towards the West.

You could also make up a Castroist insurgency in Cuba or something. Or just stick to invading Venezuela and kidnapping Maduro.

EDIT: Another idea is an invasion of Taiwan by the PRC. Their self imposed deadline is 2027 and they’re growing more likely to do it, so we can jump the gun a bit. It can be the Ukraine war analogy of SoI, if we choose to play it out as such.

I suppose that's true.
I'll compile a list of conflicts given this, and we'll see what happens from there.
