My point is that any argument involving "muh tradition" is dumb. But if you seriously think most people dying before age 15 is a good thing, that's your problem.
Ah yes, classic argument that because Romans didn't have the windmill, we shouldn't use the Roman law.
Not at all what I said.
Not at all what I said.
You’ve either misunderstood the traditionalist position, or you’re trying to purposefully misinterpret our words; we don’t cling onto traditions because they’re traditions, we analyze the behaviour of people in the past in the hopes of enriching our modern worldview, and adapting behaviours and mannerisms that our ancestors once held that might help us in our predicaments and pathologies.
Not all tradition is “dumb”, nor is appreciating the cultural patrimony we’ve inherited from those that came before us.
But you just said "it was done that way longer" as an excuse to keep the English monarchy.

That's a rather liberal interpretation of what I said, and it's not at all the only thing I said either. The core of my comment was about how nations have the popular sovereignty to choose their own kings if they like, meaning that, ideally, Tuvalu or England could choose to have a king and that an American's moaning wouldn't matter. I only mentioned the fact that the English monarchy stood the test of time to dick on the Americans, which, who doesn't want to dick on some Americans? The point still stands that the yearning for monarchy appeals to something deep and transcendent in humanity, though.
I'm not a monarchist necessarily - I certainly do think my country's monarchy should be abolished, but I recognize the fact that that specific form of governance is very innate and natural, since it reflects our natural desires, and serves as a reflection of the family on a stately level; the monarch is the patriarch, and his eldest son succeeds him as the nation's new patriarch. Monarchy in this sense displays the likeness to the cornerstone of all societies; the family.
Liberal democracy is a product of our age; it has, as an idea, only existed for 200-odd years, and that's a bit of a stretch; the eldest forms of liberal democracies with full suffrage for the general population only came about in the 1920s, and you could even argue that sufficient suffrage has not even been reached yet, as the convicts in our prisons and the insane in our mental wards have not been given the right to vote.
If the age of a form of government alone does not concern you, try and cogitate why many of those systems of government are still around and ponder why they have stood the test of time.

My sincere apologies, no offence was meant and I retract my previous comment if deemed inappropriate 😔
