He's right, just because you hold a grudge or "national threat" to any country does not give you a viable reason to force the economy from your "rival" and who they are trading with.
Edit: Warmonger is a really strong word for protecting your economy.

I’m literally not stopping him from trading, I blocked off the Suez Canal because he is a threat, blocking off a canal from somebody because they are a threat is literally valid. That’s the equivalent to Egypt going to war with Israel and still letting them have access to the canal. It’s a stupid move

Second if they are my enemy why would I want their economy to grow? Why would I want my enemy to get stronger, so they can kill me?

This is ridiculous! you don't know geopolitics, nobody would close the suez canal because they are enemies, not even Israel did that when they owned the canal for a while, imagine!

I would resolve diplomatically, I even gave a few options, but you want to open after the war is over and by then my economy would have crashed, and oil isn't the only reason I'm bothered, do you really think I only import oil? AND YES ALSO, YOU ARE PREVENTING ME FROM TRADING WITH MULTIPLE COUNTRIES

You literally said you would open after the war was over (and that's what you said too, but it was before)

It's more ridiculous when you realize you closed the channel on me just because I threatened an ally, it wasn't even you, you got involved in what was supposed to be quiet.

AND AN ADDENDUM: VERY BIG SHIPS DO NOT PASS THROUGH THE SUEZ CANAL, which would make it impossible for me to make a sea attack, other than literally just passing cargo ships
